First of all: I hope this won't be seen as a hate thread. I'll try to abstain from my emotions and talk about what bothers me in the way Edér is written in Deadfire, because I need to talk about it. 1. Friendship with the Watcher. As much as friendship with Edér was satisfying in the first game, as much it's disappointing now. Edér doesn’t feel like your old buddy who've been through all sorts of things with you, like dragons, gods, jumping into the endless pit, etc. He feels very distant. So few friendly interactions. No inside jokes. Before he won me over by being very caring and attentive to my character, but now his friend shares the soul with his god, and he's so indifferent to it. I miss him waking my Watcher up and promising a bucket of water. 2. Personal development. In Pillars 1 Edér ended up a mayor in my game. The epilogue noted his optimism and strong desire to help people. He seemed determined and empowered, but in Deadfire he seems depressed all of a sudden. Maybe it's a bug, because it doesn't make any sense to me. His personal quest seems rather odd too. It seems more logical for him to have a quest to find Eothas and finally get the answers about Woden and Saint's War, but instead he's chasing his dead ex girlfriend, who dumped him twice, told him to move on and find someone who will appreciate his soft heart, and clearly moved on herself, married someone and had a son. So instead of going forward with personal development, Edér apparently goes 20 years back. Is this a midlife crisis? It feels so dissatisfying, especially comparing to Aloth, who strides forward boldly. Edér feels stuck and depressed for some reason, and it's never explained why is he like this, or why does he act like an old man whose life will end tomorrow? (He's only 37 years old, if it's true he was 32 in the first game). 3. Romance. After Elafa told Edér (in the short story) to find someone who would love him, giving him a romantic arc seemed like a logical choice, especially after everything he's been through with the Watcher. And his actions say he does care about the Watcher, but he says he never thought about it? I just find it hard to believe. Indeed, like Tekehu noted, Ngati weeps for such wasted potential. His sudden fixation on Elafa after 20 years seems rather artificial and forced. For some reason she's suddenly the only person he could talk about things that worry him, but not the Watcher, who he never had problems sharing his thoughts with before. So it's the dead girlfriend and he will never love again. Seriously? TL/DR (and personal feelings ): I feel like this is not Edér. Like maybe Leaden Key kidnapped him and replaced with a depressing clone. It's definitely not the Edér I was so excited to meet before the Deadfire release, and the change is so drastic and so inexplicable, that almost feels like the most beloved character was deliberately sabotaged as some kind of a cruel joke. I don't expect to get the answer "why", but I talked to other fans about this, and we agreed that it feels extremely disappointing, what was done with Edér, and perhaps if we provide feedback, then it will help Obsidian somehow in the future. Or please, for the love of god, patch him if this is a bug! Give us our friend back.

Does Eder have a...
Galagraphia replied to Melusina's topic in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire Stories (Spoiler Warning!)
Bearn is not his son. 1) he says he knew his father 2) he speaks about Edér saving his life, not fathering him 3) later Edér has a banter with Xoti where he says he thought the kid might have been his, but now he knows he’s not. So it's very clear it's not his kid. -
1. Will we be able to determine what was our Watcher doing between Pillars 1 and Deadfire? Maybe like we talked with Calisca about why we came to Dyrwood. Or is there some kind of canon? ("Ruled Caed Nua for 5 years, it was boring") 2. Where did Cosmo come from and how long do the space mini pigs usually live if you care for them well? 3. Will there be a quest to turn the cutest cat into the animancy cat, or we just find her with the cone and the tube? 4. Can we have a parrot as a pet?

Portraits
Galagraphia replied to iscalio's topic in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Hm, putting the texture over the painting in multiply mode didn't quite work for me, because it made the colours too dark and yellow-ish. So instead I put it under the line art and the watercolour layer, as the background. I use a textured semi-transparent watercolour brush, so the paper texture is still visible. Now I tried to put the texture over, and it kind of works, if you keep in mind while painting that the colours will look darker and warmer after applying the texture, and choose the colours accordingly, or tweak hue/saturation/brightness. -
Watcher takes on Thaos's portrait when looting
Galagraphia replied to AndreaColombo's question in Backer Beta Bugs and Support
No matter how many times you kill him, Thaos keeps reincarnating over and over again! -
I managed to take 3 classes during character creation. How to recreate: at first I was creating a wizard, but then went back to change him into a girl and picked a cipher/ranger classes. As the result, I have now wizard, and cipher, and ranger. I also somehow managed to select both starting abilities for the ranger during the same character creation: Attached my save. Output log.

I'm sorry if it was already discussed, but here's a feature I really loved in Tyranny, and I think Deadfire could also borrow it (if it's possible). In Tyranny when you hover you cursor over somebody, you can right click and the pop-up window stays locked. After witch you can hover over every icon and see what it means: It's really great, because you don't need to remember what each icon means, or what it does. Like, what does flanked does? This menu doesn't say: So I either need to write it down in my notebook (I played Pillars 1 writing everything down in my notebook, because I keep forgetting what all icons and statuses mean), or I need to have a really good memory. So in my opinion, that feature from Tyranny would be very helpful. I would be able to play without a notebook and wiki, yay!

Descriprion: Essential Phantom appears invisible and kind of dead. Doesn't do anything, its health is a negative number, and its name is weird. How to recreate. I attached the save. This happened when my party attacked drakes in Poko Kohara, and the mercenary mage casted this spell. Save game. Output log. Dxdiag.

Animal companion's name switches to default on reload
Galagraphia posted a question in Backer Beta Bugs and Support
Description: When you load the game, animal companion's name becomes just "Wolf companion". How to recreate: Make a new ranger (I have a cipher/ranger), name your animal companion. Then save the game. Then reload. Companion's name is defaul. In my case - just Wolf Companion. Here's my save. output_log.txt DxDiag.txt -
Watcher takes on Thaos's portrait when looting
Galagraphia replied to AndreaColombo's question in Backer Beta Bugs and Support
I had this one as well! Thought I was hallucinating, but nope: Happened while I was reading the journal before stealing it. Thaos is gone, but he lives in his old pupil still -
I understand that because the Watcher can see the lost souls, the lost souls can see the Watcher. But sometimes just the regular dead people are staring at you. Maybe they are fake dead people? I noticed this happens with the corpses of the team who went to Poko Kohara before my team. Uploaded a save. To recreate you need to sneak on a dead person and press Tab. I've made a save next to the last corpse who did that. On the previous level there was another one (on the first screenshot).

Skeletal Sorcerer Attack Self After Death
Galagraphia replied to zealotstim's question in Backer Beta Bugs and Support
I had a similar glitch, I think. My cipher charmed two corrupt animants, and the moment she casted charm, they died, then rose from the dead as the regular ones, but they didn't have the circles around them, didn't do any damage, and I couldn't target them. Then they became un-charmed, and started running after my companions, but couldn't hit them. I've uploaded the save, but I couldn't recreate it, because I keep missing them with the charm. output_log.txt DxDiag.txt -
Character customisation after choosing the race
Galagraphia posted a topic in Backer Beta Discussion
Right now customisation is the latest step in character creation, and you switch through all these screens looking at a character that is not yours. It would feel better if I could decide how my character looks first. Aslo, if you want to see how other races look, and what options you have, you need to go all the way back, and figure out how to avoid this persistent pop-up which wants you to choose between a single class and a multiclass. It just consumes so much time! I'm not a new player, I know what my Watcher looked like, but if I were a new player, I would prefer to decide on my character's look first, and on the build second. Another thing I didn't like about the CC is that you need to click on the "previous" button a dozen of times to go back and change something. It would be better to be able to switch between the steps of character creation by clicking on the icons at the bottom of the screen. Also I didn't find how to import Pillars 1 Watcher. I guess this feature is not working yet? Or did I miss it?-

I described this earlier, but making a thread with more detailed description and gifs. Description: When you are choosing a portrait for your character in CC, the portrait's proportions look a bit wrong. I made gifs: And I also made a "portrait" with a perfect square and a gird on it to make it more visible: I have this issue with both default and custom portraits. Proportions in other parts of UI seem to be ok so far. How to recreate: The easiest way to notice is to download my Abstract Watcher portrait, unzip it into the ...\Pillars of Eternity II - Public Beta\PillarsOfEternity2_Data\gui\portraits\player\female folder. Then start a new game, get to the customization part, and select the portrait. It will be visible that vertical sides of the square are shorter than the horisontal ones. DxDiag. Output_log just in case.

Typo and Minor UI Issues in Character Creation/Level-Up
Galagraphia replied to Litany's question in Backer Beta Bugs and Support
I have some minor issues in the UI as well: 1) Character portrait seems a bit squished in Character customization, like if its proportions are not 210x330 but 210x316 (measured in Photoshop) 2) For cipher, when I hover over "Penetration" in Penetrating Visions, I get a pop-up for Greater Focus. 3) When I'm naming a save there's a glitch in the text input field. -
Freezes on exit from the character creator

Freezes on exit from the character creator
Galagraphia posted a question in Backer Beta Bugs and Support
Description: the game freezes when you attempt to exit the character creator into the main menu. The screen looks like on the screenshot below (black with some leftover text). Then eventually a dialogue box appears that the application doesn't respond. How to reproduce: Start makind a character. Go all the way to the customisation, then go back and press "x" to exit and return to the main menu. After you confirm your action, the screen will go black with some UI text left. DxDiag.txt output_log.txt -
Problem: In the end of White March II, when we talk to the Eyeless, there are dialogue options available that shouldn't be there, and some of the reactions contradict the choices made earlier: 1) You can say that Aloth is with the Leaden Key, although he hasn't confessed it yet, because this is stiill act 2. 2) I convinced Maneha to keep her memories, but the dialogue progresses like I made her forget 3) I didn't help Knights of the Crucible to build the forge knights, but the Eyeless say I did (I helped them a bit, but then switched to the Dozens) Also the "strike the crystal" message doesn't disappear during the scripted interaction (see the screenshots). How to recreate: load the attached save, pick someone to strike the crystal structure, play through the scripted interaction until the Eyeless confront the Watcher, then pick options about forgetting the past (2-3), they will bring up the options to ask Aloth, Maneha, and the reaction about the Knights of the Crucible. Links: 1. Save and the logs. 2. Screenshots.

Is it possible to add subtitles (or transcript in the logs) for things our companions say in combat? (like in Baldur's Gate EE) Because when English is not your first language, or you are playing in another language, it's often hard to figure out what they are saying, especially Iselmyr, or Edér. Is it possible to display some kind of initiative order during the combat? I understand there is no set order, because we have recovery system instead of the initiative, but it still would be good to know whose turn is now, who's next etc. will there be a hold position option? It's so useful to block a choke point when you are dealing with a lot of enemies. can we have the door shield back? It's my favourite shield for Edér! Is the animancy cat still fluffy? Is she happy? who's bigger: Abydon before he caught the moon, or Eothas' adra body? Or they are about the same size?
