  1. Attributes are just for show in the end and were only focus because people didn't realise there were bigger systematic problems. System could be easily balanced with having different stats for martial or magic, it does not need to D&D. But it is one of those things that would be in current situation looked at last. And what does Karma have to do with anything? Lol. I wish I could live in your world, it sounds simple and nice.
  2. Archangel, here's where you're wrong. "The community" did not demand they put in combat XP, make the attribute system more DnD-like and minmaxable, drop engagement, or put back hard counters. A number of individuals did so, all of whom don't even agree on these specifics. If you're wondering about the occasional acrimony here, at least I get a little ticked off when, for example, you make like you're speaking for "the community" and what it demanded. You can think so but you are wrong. You will see after release when the community comes in full numbers. I seen what happened to WL2 and they didn't even name drop Fallout in their KS. ****storm is coming. OE could have avoided it if they didn't use IE games to get more money but now they deserve all the bad with all the good they already harvested.
  3. only reason why it has gotten so is because OE didn't make any bigger changes that community wanted. Not one. All the base design problems are still here. As a person that spent months on both InXile and OE boards before their releases InXile were miles better at giving their community a bone or communicating why not. And InXile promised less but were still later burned a lot for their game not living up to F1/2 quality. And lets not even mention Larian. OE is a whole world below Larian. only reason why the forums were as they were is because OE are disappointing the fans. And they do not have lots of time to fix it. I was thinking of making lists of problems and descriptions more than once but what is the point. I seen how they listened (not) to others who did so after first month already. Not to mention the speed of improving things was so slow. Characters are still hard to see due to background 6 months after it was first reported. No amount of useful suggestions are going to make that OK. It is too easy to blame community...
  4. This is a good description. And BG1 also did this well. You are also not pushed into story of BG1 as chosen one to save everyone but kind of follow only clues you got and get involved into the conspiracy that is going on in the background. DAO, DAI and ME2 and ME3 stories are crap whem compared. DA2 was more like BG games in the story department.
  5. Just let them start the fight with spells the power of Sleep/Color Spray/Web/Horror and they will be feared enough. They don't need to live long, just long enough to fire off such spells.
  6. That's exactly the one I was talking about. You read it was, where abouts? Rock Paper Shotgun? RPGCodex (among other gaming community sites).
  7. NWN2 was very buggy. So was Kotor 2. So was Alpha Protocol. So was FNV (well I read it was, I only played it after it was fully patched). I read DS3 and South Park were much better. And it is not just bugs. Unfinished parts of those games are also part of the reputation. Like how Kotor 2 was.
  8. You didn't even need to move to or from Basilisk map. I seen it happen when moving to Ulcaster map.
  9. BG1 also gave you warnings (a bunch of petrified people and animals littering the map area before you encounter them), and BG1 gives you a very blatant anti-petrification tool the moment you set foot on the map (the NON-hostile, talking Ghoul that begs to come along and 'kill your enemies') ^There's enough hand holding on that map already... do they have to take it further and render petrification itself harmless/trivial/temporary too? Yep, I guess they do. Look what they did to petrification in PoE. Bg1 didn't warn you when you ran into a Basilisk on random encounter :D
  10. If their QA is anything like what they had on previous games, then we are doomed. Bugsidian was not given to them for no reason. Normally I don't respond to comments like this, but that is a pretty uninformed statement. QA is just one part of the overall process and, as bizarre as it sounds, they don't typically have final say over what bugs get fixed. It is pretty rare, in my experience, that a game goes out with bugs that QA didn't report. Most of the time the development team just runs out of time/money and the publisher decides to push the game forward. There are some studios that empower QA with more responsibility (as in, they can completely stop a game release if they don't sign off), but that isn't the norm from what I have seen/heard. Point being that you can't usually just point to one person or department as the cause of all of the ills of a project. OK that is true. But you got a bad reputation in gaming circles and now a chance to fix it. If you say there were more guilty parties in past for it, now you control all those parties. Prove the gaming community wrong with this game.
  11. And I want 0 multiplicative
  12. And I would say one thing is as important as another. Being stronger or having a higher quality weapon contribute about the same to your battle skill. Lots of nations of the past dominated only due to having a higher quality weapons.
  13. multiplicative bonuses are bad. Burn them!
  14. I think combat log tells you which spells were activated. You might need to turn on extra log info.
  15. I have played BG1 more than BG2 and fighting spellcasters is much much easier at levels 4-5 and beyond than what Bg2 has. PoE is just replicating BG1 in that regard if it is as easy as you say. @Stun you forgot Dispel Magic, Remove Magic and so many anti magic potions that let you stand there and laugh at mages. But Breach is what I use most of the time. Also a nice little trick is to carry a non-magical weapon and switch to it once enemy caster casts Prot from Magical Weapons As for invisibility, a lvl 2 spell for wizards or lvl 3 for clerics solves that.
  16. What about if Finger of Death too two rounds to act, and you had one round to apply a counter before dying, after being zapped? "Hit by Finger of Death? Apply Kevorkian's Arcane Defibrillator, level 3, mages only. Now for sale at well-stocked magic merchants!" Then finger of death would never work again if you just carry one defensive spell. Like Stun said poison works like that, not everything should. Vs high level mages you could cast death ward just in case. Or you can risk it and cast something else.
  17. @primejunta: spells that give immunity are just part of the game, the go hand in hand with super powerful effects they guard against. You don't really need Death Ward if enemy Finger of Death only does damage, you memorise another healing instead. As for engagement, I don't have a big problem with the mechanic in general but the way it is currently implemented in PoE is terrible. If they made it like in nwn or just made it slow movement would be so much better. And beelining for enemy in the back in IE games often meant letting your mage and priest tank enemies and you do not want that since they can get hit and lose their spell. And I agree with you about the gameworld not telling you about some strengths and weaknesses of creatures you are about to meet. I think NWN had those creature books that told you some common knowledge about certain creatures (like needing fire for trolls).
  18. for bg2 worse but would work for PoE. In bg2 you can slap it after first level drain and it will stop more of them. I would also remove penalty gained from level drain while spell lasts.
  19. I am more like you Primejunta. I know perfect counters but I use what I got at the time. I also don't use stuff that I feel makes the experience cheap (cloak of reflecting). As for counter vs immunity I like counters more. I got angry one time when I cast chaotic commands of a person that was already under effect and it didn't cancel it. But I don't mind that removing level drain is so tough, it makes the player understand the danger of the enemy. I hate it that modern games pander to people like you so you don't have to go rest and (OMG) lose 5 min to do so.
  20. I only use summons vs Ilithids. Mordekain Sword cleans them up nicely by itself. I also used them in my solo Werewolf Druid play. That party in sewers cannot withstand the power of couple of Fire Elementals.
  21. If their QA is anything like what they had on previous games, then we are doomed. Bugsidian was not given to them for no reason.
  22. Bg games had a reputation system as well and it was not connected with your alignment. Only problem was that it was a global one. I liked reputation systems in fallout more.
  23. Nah. Notoriety for the sake of notoriety is NE thing as is backstabbing someone just to make them feel miserable. CE is more about random havok and destruction with not much logic behind it. Extreme CE is: "I'm weary and going to sleep but I still have a fireball memorized so let's set this crowd on fire. Dying screams are the best lullaby."Evil covers all kinds of characters. You can easily be a hero and be evil just because you don't care who gets hurt. Bad guy holding hostages? Ok blow him up and hostages, if he gets away there will be more dead.
  24. Korgan and Viconia are good choices. Both are intetesting companions and Viconia is very nice to have for later chapters.
  25. There is a huge difference between smiting anyone that registers on a detect evil and being a undercover cop. Prodigy was talking about all the stuff in between. As for your next play take a Blade. Lots of fun character.
