  1. Some animals are tastly, some are not, others have been useful to us and we have struck a bargain with them, Cats and dogs for instance, horses, etc.
  2. The thing came with vista OEM, does anyone know how you move the cursor using the arrow keys, there is a way I think. I can't stand that pad thingie, it's messing up my fingers.
  3. And theres the fact that if you actually studied it and came up with a genetic variation favoring whitey you would also flush your career down the toilet. The reason not to bother with race as regards intellectual capacity is that there is absolutely nothing you can do about it. You can do something about child rearing and education however.
  4. Isn't Fallout 256 colours. It looks really awful. Not that I'm a graphics whore, but I do have a bare minimum.
  5. Not a bad idea actually.
  6. I don't know if we should assume China would intervene. North Korea is a trainwreck, maybe they have had enough.
  7. They are clearly the T 1000s of the series. Smarter, stronger, able to reform from a puddle of liquid metal.
  8. It's a HP 550. 2 gig celeron (I didn't know they still made those) 3 gigs of ram. Integrated intel graphics, Intel GMA X3100. Shares ram with the system, has none of it's own, in other worlds it's not a graphics card at all, but a cheap workaround. What do you think a thing like that could run. Does video and 2d functions well enough, I figure it could run 4-5 year old games as well. What about FO3. If i recall the engine was very forgiving on the system, you think it could run that. Supposedly it runs WOW just fine.
  9. I'm going to see it again tomorrow. Do they have clips for people with glasses for the 3d thing, I mean I don't know where I would stick an extra pair on my head.
  10. I should stress unequivocally that I hate all things cute and cuddly, especially in movies. There are some exceptions, but I could count those on one hand.
  11. What does their success or otherwise of the company have to do with one of their movies. Are we back to equating business success with quality, I thought we already agreed that that was stupid. I Saw Toy story years ago and fell asleep. I suppose it's possible it might be good, all I know is the seat was comfortable.
  12. "Studies have found that violent video games are a much bigger negative influence on kids," Mr Jeremy said. Why do i get the feeling whenever people say things like 'studies show' half they time they made it up on the spot. I can't think of any main stream games with pornographic content at all. Games are supposedly full of violence, and on the other hand sex might be problematic for the kids who think there is much in common with what people actually get up to between the sheets and the circus act that is porn.
  13. Actually I don't remember anything about Toy Story, maybe it was a bad example. The point being that 100% CGI rarely works out.
  14. So, people at large think Avatar is better than Blade Runner or Ghost in the Shell. Well that settles it, people really are idiots. The evidence is undeniable.
  15. The book, that would be Heart of Darkness is also about colonialism, and unlike Avatar it actually tries to examine what goes on inside the heads of the colonialists. It didn't care one whit about the 'noble savages' though, but that's Conrad for you.
  16. Yes, 'fine', not 'good'. A good bad movie. Star wars also had, I dunno a certain charm that just isn't found in 100% CGI. Avatar did much better than the usual soullessness you find in Toy story/Final fantasy type movies, but there was still too much face time with dorky looking cat people, exacerbated by the fact that you didn't care whether they lived or died. Watching the tree burning scene just reminded me of how much better Apocalypse now was, more than anything I just wished they would get on with it and wipe out the whiny tree huggers.
  17. You sure about that, all I saw were a bunch of poorly connected clich
  18. And I'm alone in thinking a movie can't work without a story ?. This is pretty basic stuff, I don't know what to say to that.
  19. I don't agree that a movie can survive on visuals alone and still be called good, I want more to award that label. Also I believe I was first in pointing out that quality is subjective. Film is a visual medium... Who's banging on about the obvious now ?. There has got to be more, there has got to be a compelling story, or you (they) aren't trying hard enough. Also, are you putting Avatar besides the original Star Wars, and Raiders. If that's the case then as the saying goes, well there should be one if there isn't : it's no use arguing with someone who's in love about the object of their affection.
  20. Give it 50 years and he will be a saint, just look at the myth they created out of Reagan.
  21. Fox news are pretty farcical to most people including those who don't care either way about politics. That a former VP candidate would chose that career path ought to leave one questioning just what kinds of people white house candidates are.
  22. Neither Shakespeare or Michelangelo had artistic freedom, and neither are good because they got paid by a specific client, more like in spite of it.
  23. Of course he hasn't got any research. How do you investigate media bias without being accused of the same crime. Can't be done. All anybody has got are opinions. Mine is that the BBC is reasonably professional and a reliable agency. Aren't they public service by the way, that should help in theory at least against political agendas in the boardroom.
  24. The only reason to think this is if you assume that everyone follows the same criteria of what makes for great movie-making that you do. Popular does not equal good. Popular does not equal bad. Popular means people like it. This is true whether we are discussing a product or a work of art. A work of art is uncompromising, it doesn't pull punches and is not afraid to follow it's own conclusions. You can't set out to be popular and expect to create anything worthwhile.
  25. ^^ I think I'm pretty close to proving my earlier assertion that people are idiots.
