  1. Best post ever. One of the other hilarious cases of electoral fraud was all the mental asylums (which still exist in Russia) voting 100% for United Russia (Putin's party). Nothing suss there hey.
  2. Speaking of SpaceX and commercialisation... how about supplying the International Space Station? http://www.physorg.com/news/2011-12-nasa-o...vate-space.html
  3. Yes, you are such a shining beacon when it comes to maturity And you're an old codger pointlessly railing against a changing world? Yeah, there is definitely an or in there: or services like Steam will keep doing what they are doing so successfully to bring old-school PC gaming back into the mainstream.
  4. I've gotta say, reading posts by people like Gorth and Volourn in this thread makes me want to go back to pirating. Thankfully, not everyone in game development and publishing has such childish and poorly developed opinions on this issue. As for those who think Steam's DRM is too restrictive... it's the best compromise out there for all parties involved. *shrug* So either buy the game then grab a DRM-free version somewhere else or vote with your wallet by not buying it. After a certain time the game will hopefully end up on GOG anyway.
  5. For those of you who loved Portal, especially GLaDOS, there is a new expansion pack out for Defence Grid which includes her as the anrrating AI. As usual, things get... interesting. It's definitely a new spin on Defence Grid, with exactly the same humour and voice actor as GLaDOS from Portal. The levels are also set in Portal. I thoroughly recommend Defence Grid the original game, too. Awesome tower defence fun. Defence Grid, the Portal expansion, and the extra level DLCs are all available on Steam at the moment for $8 total: http://store.steampowered.com/app/18500
  6. It starts out an OK game. Half-way through you realise it's getting quite fun and interesting. By the end, it feels more like a highly polished masterpiece. It's definitely a game that gets better and better as it goes along.
  7. Mob rule. Yay! Come on mate, use your brain here. How does what you quoted in any way represent mob rule (I mean we're talking about individual activists for smeg's sake), let alone demonstrate ME personally condoning it? I was pulling Gfted1 up for his disingenuous spin on the issue. Regarding Russia - you could write this off, Fighter. Many in the Arab world and abroad tried to do so with the Arab Spring to amusing effect (I remember it happened to every single country that overthrew its regime - Tunisia, Egypt, Libya and now Syria... people wrote the protesters and opposition off as being 'too small' and many went to elaborate lengths to explain why their movements would go nowhere). But the interesting thing is that this electoral fraud comes on the back of Putin's party's percentage of the vote, even after the fraud falling, to historic lows. Russians aren't the same people they were 5 or 10 years ago. Something has clearly changed in their psyche.
  8. As dense as the Oort cloud is, I think it's still pretty ****ing sparse, like an electron cloud. The chances of an object the size of Voyager hitting debris are slim.
  9. I stopped pirating **** when Steam became good. Cheap, easily accessible games with augmented features (such as friends and multiplayer). Drop the "pirates are scum" bull**** (I'm looking at you Gorth). It's a load of rubbish. At worst they're just lazy (or poor). You stop them, win them over by providing a better service than the guys providing warez. As Steam has done, and as Gabe Newell well knows. Stop demonising people - it's unhelpful to the argument you are trying to make.
  10. There is a Defence Grid X-pack out! Wooooooooooo!
  11. EVERYONE BUY BASTION!
  12. she not play games? she play games.
  13. Prosper is just some guy, you know?
  14. I don't agree with what they're doing - there are more constructive ways to raise awareness of their society's problems. But it's definitely refreshing to see US citizens finally getting off their fat arses and standing up for what they believe instead of letting extreme capitalism triumph to the point it morphs into corporatocracy. And I CERTAINLY have far less of an issue with what these people are doing than the behind the scenes corporate lobbying going on, the federal and state government handling of this movement (and the general apathetic acquiescence of US citizens to the police brutality), or what your government (which right now is the **** Democrats) is continuing to do to erode civil rights and **** with the planet (e.g. SOPA, ACTA, and the large US diplomatic campaign on other countries not to act on climate change). It's just nice to see people questioning the direction of the USA for once instead of letting corporate lobbying and the extremism of the Republicans dictate just how far to the right the Democrats should go. The pathetic quality of US political and socioeconomic discourse unfortunately leaks through into the discourse in my own country (and many others), with rather horrible results. Hence why what happens in the US riles me so. Part of that problem does belong with my own country - in that you are right. We certainly need to discard these fanciful notions of American exceptionalism (and the accompanying fixation with capitalism for capitalism's sake) if we want to be able to succeed in the modern era, because the USA's handling of its political, social, and economic affairs is anything but exceptional.
  15. I doubt it. I'm largely a capitalist (just not a bat**** laissez-faire extremist like so many US citizens - i.e. I believe in capitalism for its generally high utility in solving socioeconomic problems, and no more). Feel free to quote me if you believe otherwise, though. I suspect you'll have a very tough time finding any evidence that I believe in the "forced return of wealth to the masses".
  16. "Occupy activists descend on Brooklyn on first day of campaign to move homeless people into buildings foreclosed by US banks" Just a few corrections for you there Gfted1: 'they' are moving homeless people (not themselves) into empty foreclosed homes. Whether you agree with it or not, you're clearly trying to spin it negatively. Yes, because its their property to seize and give away. Whether they give it to homeless or retarded nuns, its their movement performing illegal actions. Everyone involved should have been pepper sprayed and hauled to jail. And I'm performing an illegal action when I smoke a joint with my mates. Boo hoo. Good on them. Your country has become ****ing backwards and it's good to see people finally deciding to shake things up. Especially when the response from people like you is "pepper spray them and haul them off to jail".

  19. Sheer elegance in its simplicity.
  20. My girlfriend doesn't understand why I'm laughing so hard, and I'm having a hard time explaining it to her.
  21. The lol standard. So, you think cotton/paper money is more worth? Based on what? You gotta explain this to me now, Krezzy. a) gold mining companies would control the world's money b) certain countries have more gold than others (e.g. South Africa has huge reserves) and thus the richest countries would be those that could mine the most gold c) everyone wants the Central Banks to step in and help prevent the collapse of the Eurozone, and yet that kind of behaviour would be impossible with a gold standard Just as a few examples of why it's a stupid idea. It's a simple enough concept and perhaps that's why it appeals so much to some people. Complexity like floated currencies and central banks can be so boring and difficult to understand, so why bother? The existence of floated currencies and central banks did not cause these financial crises. Don't throw out the baby with the bathwater.
  22. The lol standard.
  23. Aye, 1st world problems. "MAH FAVOURITE COMPANY IS MAKING A GAME BASED ON A LICENCE I DON'T LIKE I'M GONNA LEAVE THEIR FORUMS, I WILL, HONEST!!11" People only know the title and they are going pretty much berserk, this alone is funnier than most games released each year. Obsidian has made a clear choice to associate their brand with South Park. Can't says it is a decision I respect.
  24. Interestingly, both the Dutch and Japanese governments now have published studies showing piracy increases sales. I believe their studies were targeted at music piracy, but it's worth considering that the bull**** spewed from the various entertainment lobbies about how piracy is killing them might be hyperbole and myth to hide poor business fundamentals.
  25. I gotta say, though, it would indeed be nice if Obsidian cut back on the right-wing bull****. I dunno if this is a money project or what, but you guys do sell games to the rest of the world - you would be bankrupt without us. Don't just **** us off with your extremist American views okie dokie?
