  1. I have to say I miss the old Diablo. Check out the music in this gameplay clip. We need that **** back. And also note how monsters were harder (in strategic way) in D1 than they were in D2.
  2. The stats are auto assigned in D3. Well that's ****. Way to remove variety from the game, Blizzard. Being able to assign stats yourself was one of the reasons the game was so replayable. Sure they weren't as interesting as skills, but yould make 2 or 3 different builds per class purely based on stats. Again with removing variety. Way to go Blizzard.
  3. Maybe because the picture only shows four classes to choose from? Shaman (?), Warrior, Sorsoress, Monk. I'd be shocked if it had fewer than pre-expansion DII and that symmetrical arrangement suggests at least two more. They've already said there will be 5 classes for the normal game. Expansions will add more.
  4. Uhg. That sucks so much.
  5. Are you awarded skill points for doing/solving things, or for killing enemies? I hope to god it's for solving things like in Bloodlines or Deus Ex. Otherwise it really ****s up with stealth attempts when you have to decide whether you want the fun of stealth, or the XP of the kill - effectively penalising the player for going stealth. I know this isn't Diablo or NWN, so it's probably going to be based on actions, not kills, but I just wanted to check.
  6. The devil is in the details, so I applaud you Obsidian. That's so awesome. It's exactly the type of consequential gameplay I've been hoping for in AP.
  7. Oh lord. Or, you guys could just wait and see the end result, instead of going ballistic over partial info... It's nice to see people defend the devs but in this matter there's nothing left to find out - your weapon is always out. They've said that. That bars any NPC reactions to the fact that you're waving a gun in the faces of civilians, guards, diplomats, etc. Quite ridiculous.
  8. I haven't got much room left on my Windows partition, but I can free space. I figure this game will run fine since my Mac has 4gb of RAM, a Geforce 9400 M, and a 2Ghz Core 2 Duo. 2Ghz Core 2 Duo is faster than a 2.4 Ghz single core right?
  9. Texture errors are pretty bad for the atmosphere/immersion. I'd take lower graphical quality over texture errors anyday.
  10. Newton had an approximation that works at local distances, and non-relativistic speeds (i.e. distances across Earth, and as long as you're not close to the speed of light). He didn't considered the distortion of space-time or anything (which is what we now basically define gravity to be). Apparently gravity waves do exist, because we observe their effects in things like pulsars. These scientists are trying to observe gravity waves directly, however, as predicted by various subsets of QM and string theory, and failing.
  11. Yeah, I'm a bit disappointed to discover this, too. I figured it'd be something more like Deus Ex where there are plenty of neutrals around for you to interact with, talk to, receive quests from, and, if you want, fight. You know, like an RPG. I thought it was a really nice touch in Deus Ex when people ran from you if you waved a gun in their face.
  12. **** this is hard. Choice of: Deus Ex 1, Planescape: Torment, Fallout 1, and Diablo 2, Jazz Jackrabbit 2, and Age of Empires 2. Diablo 2 is probably the game I've had the most raw fun with, followed by JJ2 or AOE2, but they're not the best games (while Torment, Fallout, and Deus Ex are).
  13. What's a 'texture pop-in'?
  14. Some ideas (some are end of world, some are are just comforting downers): The End is the Beginning is the End - Smashing Pumpkins Do You Love? - Natalie Imbruglia (it always struck me as a sad song about the end of the world) Blackhole Sun - Soundgarden All Along the Watchtower - Bob Dylan Until the End of the World - U2 Beside You In Time - NIN Right Where It Belongs - NIN Dumb - Nirvana All We Have Is Now - The Flaming Lips Do You Realise? - The Flaming Lips Ironic - Alanis Morissette And right before the end: Ride of the Valkyries
  15. What is the perfect "end of the world" song list? I stole this question from some random here: http://www.answerbag.com/q_view/409092
  16. I always suspect Mr. Jobs was up to something. Apple is buying up all the gravity waves! http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/e/e0/Google
  17. Wow, this is interesting: scientists can't find gravity waves. They're going to try again with an experiment 1000 times larger and if they still don't find any that's a pretty big shake-up of QM and string theory. http://science.slashdot.org/story/09/08/21...Waves?art_pos=4
  18. I think the biggest problem is to sell these projects to people. There are no tangible benefits in such projects, so it lacks the "no holds barred" monetary backing to make quantum leaps. People can see the immediate benefits of smaller, energy friendly cars, faster computers and crops that are resistant to pests, so that is where the research money goes. You've clearly never worked in venture capital. people don't see the benefits of those things. they like big objects, objects that make loud bangs, and really really tiny objects which could either make them biullionairres or kill everyone. They don't like anything else, least of all energy friendly boringness. How very British of you.
  19. You could holster your lightsabre in Jedi Knight 2. If you didn't, it scared people. That was cool.
  20. Are you a troll/bot?
  21. Well then maybe Rorie could shed some light on the problem with holstering weapons. Pretty sure you could opt for no weapon/a holstered weapon in Deus Ex, System Shock 2, Red Faction, and No One Lives Forever. For reference, here's what a casual gamer's PC looks like these days: http://store.steampowered.com/hwsurvey/
  22. Memory is cheap nowadays! Or are you saying 2 GB RAM isn't enough to be able to not hold a gun? Don't worry, I have 4! Most computers these days are dual-core and have ****loads of RAM even, if they don't have the best CPUs or graphics cards, so... So... yes.
  23. I hear they have unicorns in Minnesota.
