  1. I'm not sure we can. But we probably should be able to? (Actually I'm not sure if we should, but from a verisimilitude standpoint, having a torture chamber in the keep seems reasonable.)

Do we get to upgrade the torture room or customize it? I mean if there is only one style of torture it's bound to get repetitive very soon, that being said I believe that Obsidian will make torture the most fun it can be.

  2. Any army/general may surrender after Bleak Walkers are unleashed, but the paladins explicitly do not ask for nor give mercy/surrender.  If a warlord said, "Hey, Bleak Walkers, take out this town," and then halfway through the attack, the ruler of the city tried to surrender, the warlord would have a problem on his hands if he wanted to accept.  Bleak Walkers won't call off an attack even if their "employer" asks them to or turns forces on them.  The Bleak Walkers believe this behavior is necessary to make it clear what is going to happen when they get involved.

That is really interesting, hope that gets explored more in game.

  3. I'm not at all worried about DirectX 12.  There are 2 reasons for that:

    a) I'm moving away from Windows anyway.  I'm building the next rig very much with Linux (SteamOS) in mind, hence why I'm all about Nvidia and not even taking AMD GPUs into consideration (I like AMD's hardware, but their proprietary Linux drivers, although improved from where they were 5 or 6 years ago, are still far behind Nvidia's proprietary Linux drivers in terms of quality [Nvidia's Linux drivers are virtually the same quality on Linux as on Windows])

    b) DirectX 12 is not coming until the very end of 2015, presumably with Windows 9, at the earliest.  You're not going to get DirectX 12 games immediately.  My most generous estimation of DirectX 12 games actually showing up is mid-2016.  That's 2 years from now.  I'm not worried about 2 years from now.  2 years from now I may be upgrading the GPU anyway (or not).  Too far away to worry about.

Point taken, didn't know it was that far off. As for Linux, I'm gonna have to try it at one point. :p

  4. The biggest thing I'm worried about is directx 12 support, on the condition that what we heard about directx 12 is true. If it's just another gimmick like directx 10-11.1 then it's whatever, but if it really is what everyone is saying it's going to be, then maybe they will follow what they did till now and give full support only to their newest gen of graphics cards.

Some news tell that 5xx to 8xx will support it, some say that 5xx-7xx will have software support while only the 8xx will have hardware support.

Overall I do agree with you, the waiting game is a fool mans errand.

  5. So, I've done some calculations and I'll have the cash put away to build my next rig next month.  The plan at the moment is as follows (I don't have it narrowed down to certain brands/models yet):

    • 27" 1440p monitor
    • i7-4790K
    • Z97 Mobo w/ 2xPCIe 3.0 slots
    • 16 GB (2x8GB) DDR3 (probably 2400 or 2666)
    • GTX 780Ti
    • 480-512GB SATA3 SSD (I also have over 1 TB of 7200 RPM HDDs left over from my defunct old desktop build)
    • Case with 2x120mm fans, or better
    • 700W PSU

In my calculations that fits my budget, and the hardware should be able to run almost everything at 1440p maxed out.  It also leaves me potential upgrade path in the near future, both in terms of CPU (Z97 motherbord will work with Broadwell), picking up another 780Ti for SLI, and filling the 2 open RAM slots with another 16GB of DDR3.

Not going to wait for Maxwell?

  6. Getting very frustrated with Shogun 2 because the game won't recognize my discrete graphics card and persists in using my integrated one. Only its not really using the integrated one since I can set everything to high and play well (and that should not be possible on integrated graphics). The problem is that because ti doesn't detect my discrete card (even though its using it) it removed all the ultra settings from the options menu. When I change it in the script in the shougun folder it still dumps me back to high settings claiming that ultra setting aren't supported, even though they are since its a Dx11 card.

    Bah

Go in to the ini file and set the setting manually.

  7. It happens on PC too, I can speak from experience.  Ini tweaks can lessen the effect, especially if you have a lot of memory to work with, but you can only really lessen the problem, never completely get rid of it.

I played all 3 on the pc too, but to be honest I don't remember if I had the issue. I must not have bothered me that much, or it wasn't as sever as in the video.

  8. tl;dr:  Kiting is indeed a degenerative mechanic (making meleers obsolete).  The AOO / engagement mechanc being implemented is even more degenerative.

Um, yes, and your point is?  If you choose to play a class oriented about ranged combat, then yeah, it is almost never a good idea to have them engage in melee (and vice versa, of course).  The goal is to force the player to need friendly meleers to avoid this problem, which is a good thing in my book.

Having a single strategy (kiting) that is ~100% effective at preventing meelers from doing their thing is degenerative game play -- it renders melee oriented classes irrelevant for both the party and the enemy.  That's pretty much a text book definition, actually. :)  When you add the fact that kiting requires enormous amounts of micro-management, especially with multiple party members then I'm not sure why anyone would defend this as a desirable component of CRPG gameplay.

You obviously have no clue what you are talking about. Kitting is never 100% effective. Or you have no idea what kitting is.

Let me further elaborate, to kite you need to hit back while running away, where as the melee only needs to move to you. So the fact that you are hitting back makes you stop for the duration of animation, which makes you slower which in turn means that eventually the melee will catch up.

  9. yes, Gromnir is using his brain to recognize what is and isn't important. might wanna try it. parrot developers even when shown silliness o' such excuses with screenshots and reason is making your "why" seem like little other than slavish recitation. what you is doing is saying a prayer. developer says. you repeat. add an "amen" at the end might help you to distinguish.

Hehehe, you must not have read many of my post if you make that claim.

As for scale, wanna make a bet that it will be noticeable without using zoom.

You obviously don't have any valid reason for being against boob scale and are just spouting random things.

  10. you mean non-party npcs? you want to know if guardsman #3 is female or male? is that a genuine concern? if is a unique female npc in chain or scale, you can't figure any way to makes her recognizable w/o boob swell? a female name might be too obvious for you? and why should it be important sans dialogue? is no reason you should be able to distinguish the short guy in scale from a woman in scale. eowyn's scene from lotr gots far less impact if the witch-king can see b00b swell from the start, eh? *chuckle* and again, they effective got rid o' female b00b plate, so why is scale different? you ain't making sense.

    HA! Good Fun!

Now you are deciding what is important and what isn't... As this is an Iso game with relatively small character models, yeah I guess that boob armor would help. It is you my friend who is not making sense, this whole talking gimmick aside. Also as they only showed one variation of plate, I wouldn't count out boob plate just yet.

  11. first, as we has now said a half dozen times, the visual differentiation aspect has been quite thoroughly debunked. am not gonna repeat again. just scroll up. so, again, why? don't just repeat somebody else.

second, we keeps saying that it is irrational and unreasonable to alter b00b plate because it is sexist, ridiculous and demeaning, but then offer us b00b scale that suffers from same flaws.  am getting a bit sick o' repeating this over and over. more than dozen times... minimum? how long 'fore you folks get it?

    HA! Good Fun!

I am not convinced with how you debunked it. What about npc, they don't have portraits, you can click their info and see the gender, the only way to find out is through dialog and it would be awkward as **** to start each encounter with I'm a girl/boy. You didn't do a good job of debunking anything tbh...

There is something to be said for visual differences in animation.

  12. we is fighting you on "why"?  you still have not provided one.  why you insist on thinking it is 'bout realism? getting willful obtuse on this.

also, am thinking you is similar stubborn to fight irrelevant minutiae. we made a generalization as to why we believes that folks is more adverse to b00b plate... we used your specific misconception regarding scale to illustrate this point. scale with swell is a a major misconception. is far more examples o' women warriors than is scale with b00b swell, 'cause genuine scale armour with b00b swell ain't possible whereas there is many examples o' women warriors. we compared general reaction o' community to b00b plate and scale, and used your specific misconception 'bout scale to do so. clear now?

    HA! Good Fun!

I am not amongst those people so I couldn't care less. As for a reason, I provided one, you just didn't read. People want boobs on their female heroes, if for nothing else but to have a easy visual difference between male and female animation.

A better question is, what is your reason for not having it?

  13. Or you are just misreading what I wrote. Never said that boob scale is more plausible then boob plate, only that as unrealistic things go this ain't a big leap.

Again you are fighting me on realism while dismissing my other examples of suspensions of disbelief. You are picking what matters and what does not. Well it doesn't work like that, either it all matters or none of it does.

  14. *sigh*

    please recall, we said,

    "b00b plate = no

    "b00b scale = yes

    "why? "

you gave a silly response. really. b00b muscle? that is your "why"?

well, guess what, women wielding great axe and wearing plate does Not require a ridiculous argument. women players don't wanna be excluded from playing warriors because reality says they have less upper body strength. is not complex. that issue has been raised ad nauseum in other games and has been dismissed outta hand by all save the myopic troika developers.  got some similar overwhelming argument for b00b scale? is women, or even men, clamoring for b00b scale? the reason for b00b scale, according to obsidian, is the differentiation aspect, which hiro and others has shown is complete ridiculous.

    so, try again: why?

    HA! Good Fun!

I never said no to boob plate.

People want to see boobs on their female heroes, it's not that complex. Also breast making a bulge under scale armor is not that big of a leap as female warriors. I am not willing to say no to boob armor for the sake of realism, when there is none in the game. As for boob plate, well I guess it must have not been to the liking of the devs, so they didn't do it. For that matter, did they even say that there is no boob plate and what about leather armor or chain mail?

If they were trying to bait teenagers, like some mmos do then it would have been a different story, but they are not and so I have no problem with it.
