VtM: Bloodlines 1 Year Anniversary Q&A

Maybe it was because I was playing a Vampire, but I never found it particularly eerie. It may have been because it was so overdone in efforts to creepy too. -
VtM: Bloodlines 1 Year Anniversary Q&A
ShadowPaladin V1.0 replied to funcroc's topic in Computer and Console
Reminds me of the ink puzzle in Two Memories. -
Not one for people on dialup. If this is just one level, how big is the actual game going to be ?

I think Nintendo could gain a lot of ground this time around. They have an innovative machine, they have a machine thats really easy to develop for since it's not much different to a current gen machine. It's cheap to develop for compared to the other two. None of the other two will be able to touch it price wise and the games will probably be priced lower too. I dont think the 360 will last the course. If it looks this unimpressive now, thats not going to improve in the future. The Xbox was a good machine. They retired it too early. Never thought a console needed a HD but it sure came in handy with faster load times and hassle free saves. I have about 3 other memory cards each for the other consoles (and thats not including the rest of the family). If anything the 360 is a big step back because now you have the customer base split between the crappy core system and the other less crapy premium system. Most of Sony's early PS2 sales actually came from BC PS games so having a BC system that involves jumping through that many hoops is insane. The HD is only 13 GB too when it comes to actual free space.

It's quite enjoyable. Although the graphics looks like the belong on a GBA (it's kind of painful full screen). The combats a bit wonky but with a bit of work you could sell this on the GBA.

Can't really argue with his taste in games can you :D

Best order to do the planets?
ShadowPaladin V1.0 replied to linda's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
Nar Shadaa is probably the easiest. It's a good idea to wait till you have your saber before triggering Visas, then you get another one, rather than a part. Although any place that would have given you a part prior to construction will yeild a complete saber afterwards. -
I regret not buying that one. I rented it, but could never find it for sale and missed it when they sold it on. Maybe they will come up with a revolution version. Just think of what you could do with that controller.

Still, looks to be worth renting. -
Darque is the one who hexed it :D Theres stuff I'd rent on the 360 but not one title I would actually buy. Maybe if I were into racing games I'd buy PGR , but I'm not. Lair though, well I'm a sucker for anything with DRAGONS taking center stage

How to launch a console.
ShadowPaladin V1.0 replied to ShadowPaladin V1.0's topic in Computer and Console
Well one of the nice things about being last in the order in Europe is by the time the machine is released, you have way more stuff to choose from as well as any kinks (like the machine having a tendancy to catch fire) worked out. -

Well I've lost count of the number of people I've shot in the face playing COD:The Big Red One. Can't really say I've felt much sympathy for any of them except for one guy I suprised and emptied an entire clip into him. He was twitching like a puppet. -
Read this over at Eurogamer. http://www.eurogamer.net/article.php?article_id=62112 Sony Computer Entertainment America bigwig Jack Tretton has suggested that PS3 titles Lair and WarHawk could be available on console launch day. In an interview with US PlayStation Magazine, Tretton said: "We've actually got three internal [PS3] titles that we're working on at SCEA. "One of them, WarHawk, is playable, and you can compare the graphics and see them live, and also with another one of our launch titles, a game from factor 5 called Lair, again live footage, that footage compares very favourably to what was shown at E3 press conference." Advertisement But when exactly will launch day arrive? Well, Sony's still not saying, and they haven't decided whether to follow in Microsoft's footsteps and go for a global simultaneous launch, either. "I don't think a consumer really cares whether or not [the PS3] is available in another country before or after it's available for them," Tretton told PSM. "Everybody wants a new platform as soon as they can get their hands on it, and I guess selfishly every territory wants to be first, but I think ultimately what the consumers are going to be excited about is going to be the software content that's available for it. "The actual machine isn't very exciting unless you have compelling software to put into it." I've highlighted the relevent bits. So ok world wide launch vs local launch. World wide launch sounds nice in theory but just look at how many people are either stuck with a core system (which is crap) or just cant get hold a machine period while the shelves are full of software. This to me is the clincher. It really dosnt matter if the Japances or the Americans are playing on a new console if the games are not available here anyway. What would bother me far more is having shelves full of games and not actually be able to play them because some bright spark sent Japan a million machines that they didnt want. The guy deserves some sort of award for that last comment. Most sensible thing anyone has said in ages.

Taking turn base action out of RPGs...
ShadowPaladin V1.0 replied to a topic in Computer and Console
Far from it. It may have been the case before he became known , but now there is very little drow left. He may still look like a drow, but thats all. Which is what makes him a "funny shaped human". -
Eternal Darkness was fantastic. A lot of GC games get overlooked though. Master of Magic, or "fantasy civilization" was a good one too. Going back a long time. But Terra Nova was a great game.

At which point they just become funny shaped humans. Driizt is no more a dark elf than Eliminster is. Now he's a human with dark skin and odd shaped ears. You can break them on an individual basis , but you cant break them beyond that without changing what they are. You just proved that with your LG orc example. -
Your response to violence in Games

More likely been desensitised at least to computer violence. I was playing Fire Emblem and it came down to a choice of saving on of my men and letting a spider eat an innocent. I chose to save my man. I didnt feel good about letting the spider chomp on the kid, but since we were not deep into the campaign the unit was important. If the choice had actually been left to Erika (shes the leader of the army at the time) I'm pretty sure she would have saved the innocent. -

I agree I suppose that is what I was trying to get at. In D&D monsters are sterotyipical and if you change that too much, then it's not D&D anymore. One of the advantages I see in a primarily human cast is that no one has those sorts of preconceptions about humans. Thats very true. But then it's not just about supporting the sacking of the town, but also the different story branch that result from it. In some ways FO takes the easy options since it ends the game in failure if you choose that particular path. PST did very much the same thing. Failure (aside from the load screen) dosnt seem to crop up a lot in most RPGs. The only solution I can see which would not involve writing multiple outcomes to almost every action would be to have more cinematic "endings". You would still fail, and have to reload, but you could at least see where that particular choice would have led. -

If you were evil in alignment perhaps (and stronger) otherwise there isnt really a lot of common ground to work from. They were intelligent, but unless you have some sort of common purpose (or at the least something you both want). If you warp that too far, then then they will just become "funny shaped humans". -

Do you think that had a lot to do with most of the obstacles in Fallout being human or at least human like ? I mean if you meet nothing but "monsters" then combat is going to be the defacto result. In IWD for example , you could banter with the monsters, but most of the time you knew you were not going to reach a non violent agreement. And that made sense in the setting. Were you able to glibly chat your way through it would have totally killed the credibility. Yet in FO you can just about (only just mind). Killing people in sick and twisted ways is what makes FO combat memorable. The system itself isnt particularly great. Fallouts very much the GTA of it's day. I doubt few of those remembering it fondly were really old enough to play it legally at the time. -

Oh , trunk, now I get it <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I hate you guys I'd like to point out, it does work. A tree trunk is a tree truck, but it needs (at least) branches to be a whole tree. Me: 1 Them: 0 <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Well it's 6 am here. I woke up early everyone else is still in nod land I was just trying to figure out what you meant with your anology. You could say that the more branches a tree has the better. But it would put tree surgeons out of business :D -
Isnt the idea of a commandment that you follow it ? I mean it's not like it says "thou shalt not kill.... Unless you can think of a good reason".

How well would they manage to play more than one character at the same time though D&D is TB so that a DM can regulate a groups actions (human limitations and all that). On a computer in order to simulate the same level of tactical prowess in a single player game, one person needs to control more than one character. Which is what a TB system allows them to do. Of course you can argue than an RTWP system does exactly the same and hence TB is rendered obsolete. -

Biggest difference between POR and PORII as well as old and new TB games in general is the animation. Because the old gold box games were representative in the way game pieces are (rather than realistic) you didnt lose anything by cutting out the animations. Compare that to PORII where a zombie will take upwards of 30 seconds to shuffle it's way into position and you have a problem. Fallout wasnt too bad because for the most part you had very small numbers. However if someone tagged an innocent and the whole place turned hostile the time shot up (at which point the reload button comes into play). Another factor is time in general. While a "gamer" might have enough time to replay the same hour long battle ten times till they work it out. Most casual gamers dont have that luxury. By removing the "dead time" RTWP speeds things up considerably. Which makes it better suited to the modern market in general.
