Kreia is Handmaiden's mum?!?!?!
ShadowPaladin V1.0 replied to Cassidy's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
One of the side effects of the darkside is accelerated aging. Kreias apparent age isnt enough evidence alone to say she isnt Kea. -
Yuck, I do like the lemon Coke though

Yep as long as you have something to occupy you between phases its not bad. There are some really good character classes and races which you dont find anywhere else.

That is true; there are really only the thief (scoundrel), fighter (soldier) and Paladin (Jedi) / Blackguard (Sith), so there is no need for ten NPCs, without obvious duplication. Okay, add a few droids (one?), even so that's not ten. Speaking of romances, it sounds like a lot of the posters to these fora have quite a crush on HK ... <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Well lets say it's a given that your PC is going to be a Jedi. Couldnt really have KOTOR without HK and T-3(or something like them) so that takes care of two. Another Jedi Master - three Which leaves some sort of scoundrel, a soldier and a scout, which covers all the basic classes. Allowing for one out of the three (per game) to be trained as a Jedi. If you allow that KOTORIII will keep the same basic your character plus two NPCs in combat, it still gives you three possible teams to mess about with. In addition you could probably make every NPCs a possible romance (not counting droids with vibration attachments). -

Think so. Quite a few of them would leave if you didnt go on their sidequest in a certain ammount of time. Depends on what you mean by story. In the wider plot none of the BGII NPCs had much impact on the story (aside from Imoen who was scripted into it). This of course meant you didnt have any of those situations of having to take an NPC because the story demanded it. -

Mira and Visas.. (w00t) It's the age old more generic NPCs vs less very detailed NPCs. One of the things about KOTOR is I dont think you need so many NPCs simply because the game system isnt that varied (so you dont need specialised classes in the D&D sense). I think you could easily get by with 6. -

That was another thing that sort of happened in BGII. -
The new Doctor Who series. SPOILERS!

Thats very much old news. What was inside the Daleks was revealed in the 60's I think. I'm not a huge fan either (I just watch things) but I'm certain that Tom Baker was around when I first saw the inside of a Dalek. -

Most things in an RPG are pointless from the players point of view thats why they need to have a gameplay effect. Having your beloved kidnapped every 5 minutes gets old real fast though. FFVIII and FFX get my vote for best romances. But you couldnt work one into a game like KOTOR in the same way. -
Reminds me of that footballing Tshirt. Jesus Saves buy Kenny scores on the rebound. The reworked version with Satan taking the penalty was one of my favourites.

It would have been different if the game was actually hard. As it was it was just very boring and long winded for what it wanted it do.

Thats one of the key weaknesses in romances. They are very player centric. -

Actually from a male perspective KOTOR was a big step back from BG II. One of the things that needs to be addressed is VO. I think thats the reason for the step back more than anything. Even if you could add all those voiced options , your pushing the costs through the roof. What is required is for things to catch up again. Much like the time between 2d and 3d (although this is very different and the costs are external , so perhaps not the best example). -
It didnt in Fallout. It wouldnt in BG if you couldnt control them in combat either. I dont think its a coincidence that NPC's can no longer hurt you during combat these days.

Except it isnt really a choice. You can only romance who the designers let you. Thats one of the largest weakneses in how romances are handled. The whole romance/friendship thing is very like Harvest Moon. It's like 50% of the game. They do actually have an effect on gameplay though which makes them more worthy. But even there you are still confined in who you can actually romance. Yes friendships and or romances should be more than a sidequest. But in order for that to happen ,they need to make a jump into the gameplay rather , than just being dialogue options. For example in FireEmblem , who you "support" with (they can be romantic, or not) has a huge influence on how that character functions. It's also not just a case of choosing the right (and usually painfully obvious dialogue). Take Jade Empire as the latest example. I ended up romancing the princess, but it had no effect outside of the dialogue options. I could have just left her with all the other talking books for all the point the romance had in gameplay. Ironic that the best transition of character feelings and gameplay was with Kreia and the Exile. Your relationship with Kreia had meaning because it went beyond the dialogue and into something else. Of course you couldnt really refuse her, so again it wasnt a choice as such. -

Actually I think thats pretty smart thinking. Romances are pretty low down on my personal priority scale for lots of reasons. The biggest one is they dont appear to have any real effect whatsoever. It's simply a case of going through the usual multichoice stuff till you either screw up (with no way to makeup) or you get to the "climax". After which everything carries on like it never happened. Any quality in the romance is a perception on the part of the player. -
Ratio of console sales to PC
ShadowPaladin V1.0 replied to Atreides's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
They were released at the same time in the UK if thats any help. I know KOTOR II spent a couple of weeks at number I on the Xbox chart. Fairly certain that Halflife was top of the PC charts around that time. -
Well DD has a lot of dialogue and interactions. Some really good ones for that matter. Because its a big game it's not like they are constant. It's quite possible to go for hours without seeing anything friendly. The Demo will give you a very skewed idea of what the game is actually like. Probably not that great. If I recall you can pick from two sides but it's not a game I would ever want to replay anyway. I read almost two novels in the time between the combat turns. I dont recall any memorable characters.. There are NPCS that can join up, but again I dont recall anything particularly special happening. From what I've read, Wiz 8 is a game you play for the character building and combat (some people like it ,go figure :D )rather than for roleplaying per se.

I count four in production.

What are your Ability Scores?

The last test I took was the pokemon aptitude test. Which is not as easy as it sounds :D It's more of a memory and reasoning thing. -
What are you playing ? (looking forward too)
ShadowPaladin V1.0 replied to ShadowPaladin V1.0's topic in Computer and Console
Not really, its more FPS than RPG in the sense that your character dosnt matter anywhere near as much as you do. This is very apparent at the start of the game before you get any skills. It does get better, but its really a case of if you think its worth sticking it out. -
The same is apparently true of beer :D There was one of those urban myths floating around of an alcoholic bottling his and selling it. Not one anyone would be eager to try out I expect.
