  1. This is my first time loading my game since I started this game a couple of days ago. Now my main character has a shield under his feet. It moves where she moves. [Current behavior]A shield is perpetually displayed under my main character's feet. [Expected behavior]There is no shield displayed under my main character's feet. [How to reproduce] Launch the game from the most current save file. This save file was taken in the Dyrford ruins, about halfway in. Interestingly enough, if I go back to an earlier save when I first arrived in the ruin, or earlier in the game I don't have this problem. It's just this one save game. For what it's worth, my character does not have a shield equipped. She's a female godlike paladin (I'm so unoriginal) wielding a greatsword.
  2. Don't get me wrong. I played the hell out of NWN2, and the same goes for Dragon Age Origins. And pleeeenty of other 3D games. So I'm not incapable of enjoying a 3D game by any stretch of the imagination. But not for my IE spiritual successor that I've been waiting 15 years for. 2D, painted backgrounds FTW, so says I!
  3. Absolutely. The criteria I picked were the most important ones. NWN2 is still one of my absolute favourites, and it was more or less a 3D action game. I'm not with you on this one This would be grounds for mutiny in my opinion. And I live only 30 minutes from Obsidian's HQ. They wouldn't want to see my mutiny.
  4. They are currently sorted alphabetically, which is the LAST way want my save games to be sorted.
  5. You may be a fan. But are you really, truly a "BOI"? It could be that's where you went wrong, and you may want to reevaluate your life under those terms? Yeah Boi! (note that I was not addressing Monte with this comment)
  6. If that's your criteria... you must have a very long ignore list on these boards! I won't take it personally if you don't reply, since most likely you're never going to see this post.
  7. As developers I'm sure their perspectives on those games are very different than ours as players. They probably look back and say, man, if only I could have done IWD2 this way. Kickstarter comes along and... wait a tick! Hey fans, we've got this Kickstarter and we're going back to the IE games! Yay! (inner thought monologue: and I'm going to build it the way I wish I had 15 years ago!) As nostalgic fans, we pretty much want what we had 15 years ago, wrapped in a package that's appropriate for 2014. At least, I do. ...but I digress....
  8. I'm a save game freak, I'll just come out and admit. I've been at this for long enough, that I can't count the number of times I've lost hours and hours of progress due to a bug, save game corruption, or because I just foolishly made a decision that screwed my game. Or perhaps I just want to go back to a point in the game later and try a totally different path than I did the first time. So I make lots of save games these days. In order for me to sort those save games out, I'm in the habit of naming them in a way that will tell me what I need to know when I look at them later. "Before choosing to kill NPC Y rather than save them", or something along those lines. I would like to respectfully request that an option to name our save games be added in a future patch. That is all.
  9. It is actually, in fact it's better IMO. Plate armor would now give 14 DT, which makes you a beast vs most low damage hits. -10% recovery would only give you +10% DPS at DT 0. The DT value is better than the IAS. My point is, the ability that gives a temporary boost to DT has nothing to do with the attributes of the armors themselves. The fighter has the ability to increase his DT by a fixed amount whether he's nude, in light armor, or heavy armor. So I see this point as ancillary to the conversation. And further, Paladin's (the other "tank" character) don't get that ability. Right now it seems that light armor of good quality is the most effective option for a tank. You can still get a huge boost to your DT, and attack much faster with it.
  10. The Fighter can already do this with one of his class abilities AFAIK, gives him extra DT or something. Yes, he can gain a bonus to DT, but that's still not the same thing as making heavier armors more viable for a tank character which is the problem I'm addressing here.
  11. So would I, I just don't think the talent system is the way to do it. It's an inherent issue with the System Design and yeah, will be a tough cookie to solve. Agreed. But as I'm not expecting that any mechanic is going to be scrapped and totally redone at this point, I'm trying to think of things that can be done within the existing system to improve the situation. It doesn't have to be via talents. Another option is that certain classes can innately ignore a certain amount of armor speed reduction. So a fighter maybe ignores 15% speed reduction. He can wear light armors with almost no speed reduction, and heavy armors with a moderate reduction. Maybe a barbarian has a 10% reduction. Rogues/rangers 5%. And wizards 0%. Maybe these values can improve at higher levels. As I'm typing this, this doesn't feel like "the solution" either, but I feel it's at least heading down a better direction than we have currently.
  12. There are balancing issues with that. Being able to ignore a good portion of the armor speed penalty (let's say 20%) gives you a 20% increase in DPS at DT 0 (less against higher DT), which is the same as 10 Might. Now this is not as strong as 10 Might, it's probably worth 6-7 Might maybe, do you think you'll be seeing items that give +6-7 Might ? I don't. Not sure. D&D had items that granted 6 strength, though they were rather expensive. So it's not entirely out of the question. But by your argument, all I have to do to get that 6 - 7 might affect is remove my armor anyway, so that possibility and potential balancing issue is already in the game. I'd just like a way to do this where my tank character doesn't have to go nude, and more to the point, where heavy armor is actually a positive strategic choice to use.
  13. And then someone walks by, accidentally bumps into that 10 watermelon head. Balance is pushed off kilter. Next thing you know, he's fallen and he can't get up!
  14. Waste of a talent, IMO. You don't even need to wear padded armors atm. Well it wouldn't be a waste for your tank character(s). And additional tweaking such as making ranged weapons more lethal and/or having the AI prioritize squishy characters could add incentive. Improving this situation isn't likely going to be achieved by a single "silver bullet" change. It will require a variety of mechanical tweaks and balancing changes.
  15. I actually wouldn't mind something like that, if there was an option to leave the bear downstairs, or better yet, outside.
  16. Hmm, I would reach out to Obsidian support directly on that than. You will want to get that sorted out sooner rather than later, I'd think.
  17. Maybe a high level wizard can eventually learn to be more effective in heavier armors, but will have to invest more resources (i.e. talents) to attain this, in lieu of taking talents to increase spell casting related abilities. So it's a conscious decision, with trade offs, to build that heavily armored wizard and make him effective.
  18. I guess there's a lot of ways to skin this cat. For my part I'm more interested in raising the problem at this point than I am identifying the solution. But am certainly interested in hearing all the opinions. At the moment it seems there isn't a lot of incentive to have those ranged characters wear armor, since they can dish out a lot more damage than they'll likely receive. If ranged attacks become a lot more lethal, than maybe that means a lot more characters will be putting on some exceptional padded armor. An improvement, but probably still not the solution. I'd still like to see more incentive for more traditional tank characters to wear heavier armors. Fighters and Paladins with the ability to master heavy armor (minimal to no speed reduction). Barbarians and Priests in medium. Rogues Rangers in light. I love those archetypes, and see no reason to totally throw them to the wayside. You can still have the heavily armored wizard character if you desire, but it's going to suffer a large penalty to attack speed.
  19. That would be a step in the right direction. I'm not sure it's the solution though. With this you likely just have everyone running around in light armor of the highest possible quality. I'd like to see certain classes, like fighters learn to minimize and perhaps even eliminate the speed reduction in heavy armor. Perhaps they can take a talent to minimize the impact. I'm just spit balling here, mind you.
  20. How can you know? We could play only small part of game without piece of main story. I cant say anything about Baldurs Gate from plaing local quest in Ulgoth's Beard (without tower) with random premade companions. Non interctive demo of BG has terrible atmosphere. And combat is not what missing there. Come again? I'm afraid, I don't get your point. If I were to guess, Zierry is talking about the PoE beta demo, while you're talking about IWD2.
  21. I feel that this deserves its own topic. I'm seeing a lot of discussions about how one of the more effective combat strategies is to have most of your party go nude (i.e. wear no armor) and attack from range, while one or two characters do the tanking. And even those tank characters aren't probably going to be best served by wearing heavy armor because its slows their attacks so much. I find this highly disturbing. There was a design goal that there would be no throw away armor types, but it seems that armor overall is going to be largely throwaway... which is far worse in my opinion. I have to believe this was not the intended result OE was looking for in their armor system. I sincerely hope this system will be tweaked as to ensure that wearing armor makes sense. Nude parties running around... just doesn't sound heroic or inspiring, and it certainly undermines all the hard work OE has put into making those armors.
  22. I have used that one before. But for some reason I couldn't find it last night. Silly me. I should have checked the portraits directory on my gaming PC rather than scouring the internet.
  23. lulz. Try it out. Combat is faster and easier. I'm not questioning that the strategy works. I'm saying that if this is how it will be in the final release it's a crying shame. Moreover, it represents a failure in one of the game's design goals. The design goal was to ensure that there are no "throw away armor types". But how much worse is it if armor overall is throw away except on maybe one or two tanky characters in your party? And even with them, you're likely not going to want to give them heavy armor. No, just no. This isn't what the game needs. And with all the time OE is putting into creating the armors, making them look good, etc., I'm pretty sure this was not what they were intending. Armored characters are as much a staple of these sorts of games as anything else. And the thought of perhaps all but the most dedicated roleplayers running around with largely nude parties is, well... let's just say the thought of it bums me out. I really, really, really hope OE will take note of this, and make some changes that ensure armor is a much more viable option for all characters.
  24. Why is Forton so despised here? I thought he looked cool. I liked Forton also. I was looking forward to having him as a companion.
