Well, you can do many bad deeds, and there's an evil path in the storyline (featuring trust and betrayal), so I'd say quite well. You can betray the whole Valley, in fact. There are three thieving skills: stealth, tinker and pick pocket.

This is one of those games that never got the attention it deserves. Or maybe it did because it's a really unpolished product (I've had my game freeze and crash more times than I can count). However, while it's in the same "flawed gem" category as Arcanum or Sith Lords, the difference between them is that PtD has practically no questionable design decisions. Everything from the skill-based character development system (which is a combination of point allocation and learn-by-use mechanics) to the world and NPC design is well thought out. The world is open for exploration from the very beginning. Each location (town or city) has quests with different skill requirements, so you can wander around the Valley, doing tasks here and there. You don't get experience by defeating enemies but by solving quests and using your skills. Many quests have multiple ways to handle them. For instance, you can use Literacy & Lore to recite a poem or Music to sing a song to inspire a depressed person. The story is about a peaceful valley where two races of humans, the River people and the Children of the Flame, live together. The Children are the upper class (politicians, land owners, scholars) while the River folk are happy to take the working man's role. Then a group called the Rebellion started to agitate the River people against the Flame, and that's when a man named the Watcher hires you, three secret agents, to find out what's going on and possibly infiltrate the Rebellion... Even though the storyline is linear, there are a few ways to follow it. You're constantly offered choices with consequences. But remember, there's a big chance of lots of technical difficulties. If you can cope with them, Prelude has an incredible RPG experience for you. You can get the latest version from Megaupload The official site has lots of info as well as a detailed walkthrough: http://www.zero-sum.com/ IT'S FREEWARE SO WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR ??

Things you'll never forget about Kotor
Jora replied to Sturm's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
My father's first name is Juhani, so seeing the name in the game was quite an absurd moment for me too. -
As I said, the world is completely fantastical inspired by Rome. The magic is a thing of the past, found in abandoned facilities and such. The protagonist can't learn to use it. There are plenty of social skills: streetwise, etiquette, persuasion, disguise and trading, so the means for intrigue are at least in place. The merchants' guild, for example, is said to be more like the Trade Federation from Star Wars than just a collection of salesmen. Here's the world map: http://img512.imageshack.us/my.php?image=map05ane3.jpg

This bit has a little more edge, if that's what you're looking for: There is a stone statue of a demon reading a book. The demon is carved with great precision, and his pose reflects deep thoughts and tranquility. As you approach, the statue closes the book in one fluid motion and looks at you with amusement: "I do believe we have a visitor. Unfortunately, it appears that we are closed at the moment, and I've been instructed to dispose of all visitors. Therefore, we have a dilemma." "Dispose?" Kill. Destroy. Murder. Do you have any preferences in the matter? If there some sort of death you would enjoy more, feel free to share that with me. Being an expert in killing, I'm sure I'm familiar with most methods and would be more than happy to accomodate your request. An expert in killing? Not very bright, are you? * the guardian drew two blades out of nowhere with an alarming speed* 1. * trying hard to ignore the blades* You mentioned a dilemma... 2. * draws a weapon* For an expert in killing, you sure like to talk a lot. 3. * run 4. What are you? If 2. Very observant of you. Yes, a dilemma. You see, there is something you can do for me, and in return I'll let you go free. Even better, I'll allow you to explore this place and give you a great treasure that was given to me for safekeeping. How does that sound to you? 1. Sounds much better than choosing a way to die. So, what can I do for you? 2. [streetwise] That bit about the treasure was way overdone, don't you think? If 2. Hmm, not so stupid after all. Alright, here is a deal. Try to leave and I'll kill you, stay and argue with me and I'll kill you, do what I tell you and maybe you will live to see the daylight again. So, what's it going to be?

It isn't really a fan project, as it isn't based on any particular game.

Boring? I think getting an option to play a con artist is really refreshing. But no, it's not supposed to be set in Rome or an alternative world like Lionheart. The same way Faerun (of the Forgotten Realms) isn't medieval Europe.

The "award-winning" part was just a little joke. Have you read the interview VD did with No Mutants Allowed ? It has dialogues screens of interaction with the different noble houses. There are also little bits of dialogue posted in the forum: From the grifter vignette: ***cutscene*** Gracius the merchant, enters the inn. The innkeeper: Hail to you, Gracius! How may we serve you today? Gracius: The usual will do: your best room for me, quarters for my servants, and storage for my goods. Send for a good loremaster - I'd require his services later on, and have one of your goons to make sure I'm not disturbed. Inkeeper: Consider it done, oh generous one. *** Description: While Petras was an unknown, ordinary-looking man, personas he created to pull various cons were well known, often famous characters, usually wanted dead. He sold silver mines, treasure maps, magical rings, and resurrection potions. He foretold future, communicated with spirits of recently deceased, and transmuted scrap metal into gold. He even managed to sell his own description - fake as usual - to some assassin guildsmen hired to put an end to his exploits. Petras: That should be interesting. I wish I didn't have to leave. Here, take this - * he gives you a bundle of clothes* - put them on and go introduce yourself to the good merchant. His room is upstairs. 1. Wait. I've never *been* a loremaster before. Any tips? Loremasters are a pretentious sort. Just pretend that you know everything better than him, dismiss his attempts to argue with you, and throw in some names and obscure references. 2. Why should I do it? Why not? Do you have a better scheme at the moment? No. Then go in, pretend to be the loremaster he sent for - since he was stupid enough to announce it so loudly, and take whatever artefact he's got. I'm sure it's worth at least a few hundred coins. Not bad for ten minutes of work, no? ... Are you... I am the loremaster you sent for. Let's not waste more time. Show me what you have. I have a gift for lord Antidas, and I wish to have it appraised, to be certain that the gift is worthy of my lord and benefactor. *he hands you a carefully wrapped scroll* It's a simple map. Why do you feel it has any value at all? *he looks at you suspiciously* Surely you've noticed the seal at the bottom? Ah, the seal... of course.... Well, maybe this particular seal is a rarity in a whatever village you came from, but here... I was assured that it's the symbol of Thor-Agoth! Are you saying it's something else?! That's exactly what I'm saying. However, that doesn't mean that the map is completely worthless. Some symbols look interesting... It's a pity that I don't have time to study the map and compare the symbols to what lord Antidas has in his library. *the merchant reaches for his coin purse* Friend! Benefactor! Please accept this humble sum and do what you can to turn this accursed map into a worthy gift.

It's true, first official footage of the upcoming award-winning role-playing game has been released: http://vnfiles.ign.com/rpgvault/ageo...ce07073001.wmv We get to have a look at the interface as well as different kinds of attacks and animations. It all looks really smooth and well thought-out. Here's the article: http://rpgvault.ign.com/articles/809/809015p1.html

Dak'kon - Solving the mysteries of the Unbroken Circle was an unforgettable experience Morte - "Don't trust the skull" Loghaire Thunderstone - The dwarf king who had to make a big decision and lives in a cave because of his regret. Talking about Stone and Shape with him was one of the highlights of Arcanum Torian Kel - He can be found in the Ancient Temple east of Tarant. He has a great story to tell about the Derian Ka facing the "good guys", the Molochean Hand. I like it when an NPC's story is connected to the main storyline. Virgil - Not really well versed with the scriptures Magnus Shalefist - The dwarf standing in front of the headquarters of P. Schuyler & Sons. It's a shame my game is buggy as hell and I never managed to finish the Iron Clan quest properly. Vhailor - He's cool as a concept and I love convincing him he should be dead Ignus - He has a creepy background that involves TNO. Worthless Mutt - He is THE dog companion Yeslick - Found in Cloakwood mines. Give him the +2 electric hammer and he kicks ass Jazhara - The new court mage of Krondor. Kendaric - Former leader of the guild that specializes in raising shipwrecks from the sea with magic. No great personality, not as powerful as Jazhara, but the quest leading to him (investigating the Wreckers Guild) is memorable. Dynaheir - She has that extra spell slot and she can shoot fireballs Xan - What needs to be said? Charming personality coupled with his enchanting spells make up for his weak moonblade. Oops, was this supposed to be top10?

Vault "Vince D. Weller" Dweller has posted some awesome screenshots from the upcoming RPG king Age of Decadence. The pictures were taken from a combat situation where the player guy, holding a hammer, is eventually disarmed, knocked down and killed. A full video of presenting the turn-based combat system will hopefully be uploaded by the end of the week. Or later. It's always later, isn't it?

LOL. Poor kirottu, must be difficult for him to manage surveillance from the other side of the world. Anyway, the mod is one of the few projects that I'm really looking forward to.

Where are you applying to?

You get used to it.

I'm currently replaying Teudogar and the Alliance with Rome. It's a historical RPG set in the ancient Germania. Are you bad enough dude to stop emperor Augustus... or ally with him??!! Eating at king Heremod's table. Ambushed by ex-slave bandits: Trying to learn wizardry from the witch.
-
Surprisingly, www.nma-fallout.com
-
The demo has much better music. Don't know if it's from other Fallout games or something made for Van Buren.
-
The whole tech demo is now downloadable. Head to NMA.
-
Not only that, but the development team is named after a band and the game features its musicians as characters.

Hehe, Zot-Fot-Pik. Never did figure out whos alt that was. Shhhh! They are here. He's Whitemithrandir. IIRC he he uses the same alt on the Elder Scrolls forums too.

More questions: 3) The engine doesn't support climbing but could it be implemented through a dialogue window (as in Prelude to Darkness and the upcoming Age of Decadence)? 4) I read that you had originally planned Arcanum-style NPC reaction levels (wary, friendly etc.) Do you still intend to do them? 5) Is there a non-combat path through the game?
