  1. DISCLAIMER: The greyed bold lines in my two last posts have been deliberately bogus. It's basically just me mimicking the way Hiro argues and replies to posts. I know, it was out of character and low of me, but I was just so tired of watching that same old-same old, over and over again. No content, just twisting and turning, and being wriggly and semantic while one's at it. HIRO: No hard feelings, but you just got to chill down and jump down from that high horse of yours. Join the arguments, be constructive, creative and inquisitive, and above all, read and listen to what people have to say. I can only speak for myself, but I'd like to see a nice and fruitful discussion here, instead of a long line of balloon popping. I apologize for sticking a mirror in front of you in this devious and mischievous way of mine, but sometimes the best lessons learnt are the surprising ones. I'm sick of this "If you can't take the heat, take a hike"-attitude that tend to leak into forums like this, so I did this parody of mine just to show that it only dampens the spirit and lowers the morale. If anything, it's destructive and not very macho at all. The same goes for Mr or Mrs Know It Alls, which I also tried to do a parody of here. Everybody should know that they are welcome to contribute and have a say, and that their opinions matter. More specifically, Lephys, me, and many others here, certainly took on and discussed the opinions of all those criticizing how the difficulty should be implemented in PE, but then came posts after posts digging a new trench in a makeshift war of oppositions that few recognized or even acknowledged, and we suddenly had arguing (or rather counter-arguing) for arguing's sake. Please, try to be constructive and considerate when you post, and don't do it the way I did in my two parody posts above. Have a good day!
  2. You still didn't name one. I haven't made that claim. I know. I hate marking semantics, but I wrote "you", as a second person pronoun plural, but you know, as well as I do, that contributors in this thread that you put likes on and back up are indeed making those kind of claims. If you abuse semantics, twisting everything to be about you, this is not our problem. More personal attacks and more misrepresentation of myself. So what was the point of replying to me? Just to go on some wild rant and misquote me? To make out I said things that I didn't? You've got some serious problems if you can't discuss the concerns of people on this forum, continually misquote and misrepresent what others have said, to make out I said things I didn't and to continue to take this off topic. Once again, this was not just aimed at you, but to all posters behaving in this way. Once again, "you" in the plural. Btw, your post (this time, singular) was mostly "No, I didn't"-counter arguments. QED.
  3. And no one is talking about Path of the Damned with things like "lazy design". That's a straw man right there! Who has said Path of the Damned has lazy design? You are saying posters in this thread are bringing up Path of the Damned has "lazy design"? The only person that has brought up "lazy design" is you! Yep, keep bringing up these strawman arguments with things like "lazy design" if it makes it easier to attack other posters on this forum - even though no one had mentioned Path of the Damned has "lazy design".. [i'm sorry to break this to you, but claiming like several of you have done, that Obsidian will make sneak- and smooth-talking mechanics that make a walk in the park of the game via a mere attribute skill check or some stealth skill checks, is indeed the same as pulling the lazy design-card. Also, it's basically the same as taking a dump on their know-how. I mean, come on, do you really believe that they suck that hard or do you have some other agenda here? Bringing up things like 'How is Obsidian going to do ..... in Path of the Damned?' is not all doom-n-gloom posts. They're legitimate questions and speculating on Path of the Damned with what it's based on (HoF) is legitimate discussion. Just because it's not all 'everything will be great' and 'have faith'TM posts doesn't mean it's all doom and gloom. [You rarely ask questions in that way, if at all. I did a back check on your posts. It's more the talk-to-the-hand-approach. Unfortunately, it rings of insecurity, almost like some snarky bullies on some campus, pointing and chuckling for the sake of it. Rarely in the right, but always mocking their opponents with bad jokes, "I do too"-counter arguments, and ill-concealed needs of having it their way and chuck the rest.] ^This, a million times this!! Can we have some civilized and sensible arguments from now on, please?

  5. I certainly do, but you don't read what I or anybody else write. Nobody ever said "emphasising that all party members will be all-sneaking or smooth-talking". The issue was parties that emphasized sneaking or smooth-talking. And most doom-n-gloom posts on the difficulty of Path of the Damned and no kill xp in this thread and in others indeed repeatedly make a strawman case of non-demanding playthroughs, devoid of combat, and lazy design, where a little bit of sneaking or smooth talking will make your party reach the end of the game in no time. In what way do dialogue or sneak options water down the challenge in Path of the Damned or the game in general? Are we even on the same page that it is great that these options are included in PE?

Sarex, Stun, Monte Carlo and other doubters on Obsidian making the Path of the Damned a true challenge regardless of encounter solutions: Like Tajerio said, Josh has confirmed that you can't do a pacifist playthrough in PE. And like Elerond just underlined, parties emphasising all-sneaking or smooth-talking will be more vulnerable when there will be combat, and combat will be extremely abundant, we already know that. It seems that you guys don't trust Josh & Co getting the balances for the difficulties right and challenging enough. You keep coming back to that strawman situ, where an INT or CHA check will solve any tough encounter. It's a bit embarrassing, actually. I reckon, you should put more trust in Josh on this than on almost any other designer. Look at his track record, and also, do you recall this? Josh Sawyer released his own personal mod for Fallout: New Vegas, where he made the game as hard as he wanted it to be, with plenty of difficulty tweaks. His goal is clearly to make games with solid combat systems challenging and versatile. I think we have the right guy on the job here.

  9. I think you're perhaps breaking in an open door with this kind of logic, Gifted1 and Sarex. Sneaking or talking your way through encounters in that Path of the Damned-mode in PE will surely involve minor progression steps, advantages or perhaps sneaking passed the worst choke point, but sooner or later all hell will break lose and you will have to fight in order to survive anyhow. Perhaps talking and sneaking can facilitate stuff during the encounter, first and foremost. Getting people to yield or sneaking off/fleeing when that seem to be the right thing to do. I mean, objective xp/quest xp is in, so there's no need to kill everything and everyone you see and loot them for gold and items. Heh, hopefully pickpocketing is in too. Imagine pickpocketing someone during an encounter!

Anything in PE approaching Company of Heroes 2 brilliant fog of war system would be great, so when you move, the fog of war actually behaves more realistically with different kinds of structures and obstacles hindering the line of sight depending on viewing angle (and why not for viewer as well. An elf perhaps sees better/more than an Amaua, for instance, but perhaps not under water.)

  13. How about making the edges of the AOE fuzzy too? I think it would probably upset those who want exact systems and hence control-freak predictability for strategic reasons, but I'd like to perceive for instance a fire ball as something inherently wild, magic or not. Even the best mages shouldn't have control of every edge of a flame at the periphery of a raging fire, whether they've channelled it or not.
  14. AGX-17: Too Short/Did Read - Old people are too good at video games! BLnoT: I think it's supposed to be a lot of objective xp. When you reach various objectives in the game, which can be parts of quests or not, there will be xp rewards for it. However, I wonder if it was us speculating about it, or if Obsidian confirmed it at one point or another.

It would please me tremendously if friendly fire is in, and also if the AOE areas are a bit fuzzy along the edges, so even if you can see some graphics marking the limits of an Acid Storm or something, there will still be collateral damage to those hanging around along the perimeter of the AOE. Powerful spells, especially AOE should come at a price, and I'd love to see the barbarian's Cleave included in this. Picture something like this: "Me strike hard and long!!!" "NOOO!! FHELGARTH!!" "Oh. Me sad now. Little Orlan look pale..." *Fhelgarth wanders off, and sits under a bramble bush and is besides himself of shame*

Ffordesoon: Your first example with a wizard displaying might by juggling fireballs is pretty cool, and it also came me a shove in the right direction, I reckon, as how we may perceive might being used for spell powers and even healing power. I began envisioning Avatar: The Last Airbender, and how elemental magic works there, and then it all makes sense. Didn't someone in this thread refer to similar system in JRPGs or something. I can't recall it, but I'm pretty sure I read it somewhere here.

It reminds me of how James May managed to get fired when he was a motoring journalist. During the early 1980s, May worked as a sub-editor for the Autocar magazine, from which he was dismissed for performing a prank, where he hid a rude message in the initial letters of some road test year book: "So you think it's really good, yeah? You should try making the bloody thing up. It's a real pain in the arse."

  22. I have too little info on the systems to answer that, but IIRC, they said you could always PM Adler or perhaps Josh, and they will give you bits of info as needed.
  23. Also, oddly enough, Qara felt like a carbon copy of Neeshka, but with no tail and with a more fiery temperament. Still that bratty presence that I really hope we will be spared in PE. I don't think that kind of brattiness translates as strong, independent young women with talents in spades.
  24. PE will definitely allow for that kind of variety when it comes to wizards. And as for chucking fire balls around, it seems perfect for a fire specialist. No need, I reckon, to go for a godlike based on the element of fire.
