  1. Thx for that playthrough video, Alanschu! As someone who's never have played BF, Counterstrike or Ghost Recon, I found the gameplay nearly breaking my action-meter! I mean, I have played Doom and Darksiders II, but this is just pure mayhem. How can you stand the intensity? I must be getting old. I reckoned Might & Magic X had some action to it.
  2. Great post on resting in games, Humanoid! It would fit right in the Blasphemy thread. It's something utterly bonkers with resting as we usually see it. Compare this to say a RTS like COH2, where if your unit gets badly hurt, or a vehicle damaged, you will have to fight hard and sacrifice time and resources to "rest them up" - heal, repair, whatever. And you can only do that by a structure or a vehicle/unit with such functions: medic, mechanic, field hospital at HQs (but the you'll have to press "t" and flee, your unit out of control during the panicked fleeing - it may be killed on their way to the field hospital. Resting the way it worked in NWN2 for instance was horrendous and game-breaking (and I say that, and still think that's the best CRPG series so far).
  3. That's quite a confession. It's one-time-only people like you that led to the quest devolution that we found in Skyrim, where you indeed can get to every convo, join every faction, and experience everything in one playthrough.
  4. I'm in the same boat. I've dismissed DA2 purely from videos, trailers and hearsay. And that: Look who's talking now! A darkspawn leader that looks like Sauron's mouthpiece's cousin, well, let's just say it didn't help. I went from the NWN2 trilogy and directly into DAO before that, and in my opnion, DAO was decent to quite good, but still no where close to the NWN2 games.
  5. My key for Thief arrived early from Greenman Gaming, a few hours ago, and it turned out that the game was available for preloading. Problem is, it's still going on, so it's probably a pretty big game. I always find game keys sent out much earlier than expected and the option of preload a joyful experience, worthy of a small celebration, even.
  6. Nepenthe, this is head on as far as CRPGs go. Most of them, even the ones we put in our top ten lists, suffer from this. I'm lucky, I guess, since I have a huge tolerance for and patience in a grindy environment. I even like grinding in itself. I do play ARPGs, and we're speaking hundreds of hours, sometimes, but is this CRPGs, as in games continuing the legacy of PnP RPGs? Nope. The Holy Grail for game devs making a CRPG, is solving the problem above, and giving us a long, but still varied and engaging game, including combat mechanics, inventory item flipping, conversations with NPCs, the lot. I've yet to see it happen. To me, the NWN2 trilogy tried very bravely all sorts of approaches, and I think combat was perhaps the weakest part in those three games. If Obsidian takes the best things from those games, rework the awful D&D mechanics into something that work smoothly in a computer RPG, then they have a nice starting ground for something legendary.
  7. That's true! His slider from satire, via irony, into almost serious, and then dead serious, is "one helluva ride", as Dan put it in is his KS thank you when KC:D ended so fantastically well. For that alone, you got to love him! It was an interesting read btw. He even had had a hard time finding a PR agency working with his Kickstarter project.
  8. Hehe! That came across as funny. I immediately thought of the grunts of the American tennis player Jimmy Connors in the 70s.
  9. I see what you did there... O.o
  10. I'm playing the theatre of war-scenarios like crazy now, and here's a shot from my favourite so far - the Tatsinskaya Raid: [/img] An eager row of tanks before an assault worthy of the history books.
  11. Many comments here are definitely therapeutic in nature, like primal screams deep in a forest. They are intriguing, mesmerizing and just plain fun.
  12. Very funny! I almost couldn't type this after that uppercut!!
  13. Here's another, inspired by Malacador's invo tetris comment: Most CRPG inventory management is boring as hell. Imagine if CRPG characters could dress themselves for once. Why not just script them to know what they need/should equip when they find the stuff? And any consumables that can be carried and used in combat should always be accessible, like one click away. -And speaking of consumables, I almost always hate them: potions, scrolls, rations, you name it!
  14. It's Ubisoft weekend on Steam right now. M&M X is 25 % off.
  15. I've just love-bombed this thread! There are so many nasty and educational replies! forgottenlor and Orogun01: A big thx for the VtM:B-tips!!
  16. Humanoid: Am observant and most fair point! However, your points are one of the sharpest so far, so I'd say go for it! On a more serious note, this kind of truth and dare, could potentially be reflecting some qualified criticisms of CRPGs. And I'm pretty certain that Josh & Co have already had this kind of shark tank meeting.
  17. Nonek: A fantastic write-up!!! I have this strong feeling that Torment: Tides of Numenera perhaps will be a wish come true for you!
  18. Seven of your claims are simply brilliant! But the last one is an A-bomb on this forum...
  19. forgottenlor & Orogun01: I bought VtM:B on some Steam sale over X-mas, so I have yet to play that game. Your replies certainly gets my hopes up! Ouch! Those are two brave ("blasphemous") statements. Still their is some resounding, horrid truth to them, reverbating at the bottom of the well of wisdom whence they spewed.
  20. I certainly agree with you. It's just that so very often, music and sound effects are mentioned as an afterthought, sadly. EDIT: I just saw mur'phon's post: that's one impressive list of "blasphemous opinions"! Kudos to you for sharing that!
  21. How eloquently put! And it's true too! Well, those theatre of war missions have certainly got me hooked, so I decided to get the one that I didn't have: Victory at Stalingrad. It was one of the tipping points of WWII, and true combat misery in more ways than one. I know a number of people who fought in that battle, on both sides actually. Let's just say that they were deployed there very young and scared ****less. They saw horrible things and were just happy to come out of it alive. One was actually a gunner. Had he been anything else in that tank, he would have been dead. A busted foot is a small price for your life. I played the Kiev mission the other day when I all of the sudden came to think of the violent scenes in Kiev right now. When I play COH2 I do it all the time with the utmost respect for all of them who died for our sake, so we get to sit here and play games on computers. I know it sounds corny, but their spirits somehow linger over the entire game experience. Hmm, it's probably just Relic messing with my mind.
  22. I see they are allowing a Dog companion, I am concerned that this isn't realistic and accurate to Medieval history. What are we going to do about this?? Love is in the air!!!
  23. You've just opened Pandora's Box I couldn't help it. It was one of those mornings. I needed something to cheer me up. So far I'm happily surprised by the frankness of the replies... Nah, I knew you guys were capable of speaking up for what you believe in already. Inspired by Tajerio's point on AD&D (it should be D&D 3.5, but who's counting?) and NWN2, I'll add: -I love that Josh & Co is making so many changes to the game system for PE. I don't want a rerun of the classic D&D iterations for this game
