finding actors who look like the people of a country in which the plot of your show takes place is easy. finding actors who can speak with the right accent without sounding silly is VERY hard. so the idea that "the actors can look the part but can't make the accent and that makes the show unrealistic so let's add ethnic groups that do not belong to the setting because it can't get more unrealistic" is beyond silly... it requires a visit to a psychiatrist. the Chekov actor, was he from russia or was he american of russian descent? it makes a big difference on the accent

i hate the internet in my country i have a 50mbps VDSL and there are 4 boxes in a 500m radius around my house but they connected my line to a box at over 2km so i get under 20mbps speed instead of 40+. i told them about it over a month ago and nothing. and now, for the last few days the speed dropped to 10 so i have to call again tomorrow. and i can't change ISP because this is the only one who has a line where i live. this situation is the only reason that makes me consider my uncle's offer to move to Germany

i REALLY need to get a ryzen 3000 (when available) and a new mobo. my current combo has some sensor problem and throttles like crazy thinking the temperature is too high. i could even believe what the sensor indicated if it was something like 90C (even if it's quite impossible with the cooler i have) but it certainly did not reach 1200C as the sensor indicates

the only reality of politics is that the stupidity of people is as infinite as the universe. we, unfortunately, get the government we deserve. here in greece we currently have 2 major parties and many smaller. one of the 2 has been very small until 2012 when a previous major party started collapsing and it's voters moved to it, making it win the 2015 elections. the other had been in power for 26 of the last 50 years and is still intact. that party was directly responsible for bankrupting greece in 2009, they further collapsed the economy in 2013 in an epic failed attempt to clear part of the debt, half it's members are currently on trial or under investigation for corruption, bribery, embezzlement and so on, it has gone bankrupt 5 times and every time the debt was "mysteriously" put on hold and cleared as soon as it won an election, it is currently bankrupt yet it somehow has the funds to advertise it's members non stop, it's current leader owns a bankrupt business that "mysteriously" stays open with no bank asking for it's money back, in the last term as a minister he fired 40% of state employees leaving all agencies crippled, he promises 12 hours of work a day for 7 days a week with lower wages, he promises to fire even more people and raise taxes, to dismantles the universal healthcare system and make all healthcare private and many more stuff like that... and people voted for this party in the EU representative's election because "the current prime minister is an atheist and didn't swear on the bible when he got into office"

one thing i despise on every single modern streaming video player is that they do not fully load the video but just enough to keep going as it plays. a few years ago, if my speed was low i could just start the video, pause it, leave it like that and do something else and later, when the entire thing was loaded, i could watch it without interruptions. today's players assume i always have at least 12mbps available at any time so they load just enough to keep the video going at that speed and not a byte more and if that speed is not available the old trick no longer works. i can't wait for the entire video to load, i just have to sit through the constant buffering and bang my head on the desk. i remember when i streamed episodes of a series a few years ago on a slow 4mbps connection, i would let the 1st episode load, open the 2nd episode on a new tab and as i watched the 1st, the 2nd was loading and it was ready to watch by the time the 1st was over. then i opened another tab with episode 3 while watching 2 and so on. now that is no longer an option

i changed the thermal paste of my graphics card today. it's 3 years that it worked on the stock paste that was completely dried out by now and it was hitting 82C with the fans at 100%. i put in some TG kryonaut and now it runs at 68C with the fans at 40%. the paste is 7 euro/gram but its worth every cent

i was doing my taxes. fortunately its quite easy. after i let an accountant do it the first time, i looked at the papers and decoded what goes where and why and then i started doing it myself (the whole thing is done online and most entries are filled in automatically by referencing bank account movements so there is little i have to add) and this is the funny part: out of all my family i have the lowest income since i was unemployed for most of 2018 and yet i'm the only one who has to pay taxes. all the previous years that i had an income my tax was 0 and now that my income is almost 0 i have to pay
