  1. Surely plenty of you have encountered a sound that makes you actually physically react in a way that can only be described as cringing. The staple example is nails on a chalkboard, but if honestly don't find that all that bad. It's bad, but not the worst. The worst for me....? 1) A dull pencil on paper. Prefer pens for this reason, and always made my pencils sharp in school. Something about the dull pencil against e paper, the feel or the sound, always made me cringe. Mechanical pencils are also preferred for the same reason since they don't dull. 2) Ever gotten a package and pulled styrofoam packaging out of a cardboard box, and the packaging scraped against the sides of the box as you removed it? This is my worst one. I cringe every time. No idea why, but when I receive a package I try to scrape them as little as possible, or if it can't be helped, pull them out quick. Was just curious what makes people cringe. It's an odd little reaction psychologists can't really explain. Wanted to know the scope of things that make you guys cringe and was curious if anyone maybe matches up with the things I hate hearing.
  2. I go overboard because it seems necessary, no? They keep coming back. And they keep coming back with terrible arguments that they can't even properly defend. So let's make them realize you won't be heard or taken seriously unless you can defend your claims. I'll be blunt (as I often am) and say that no, I held no hopes Bryy would ever offer productive discussion. His recent actions and responses to how confrontational I was prove it to me, personally. So tell me, why should we NOT be as aggressive as I was just now? What do we - as a collective in the interest of moving forward and discussing matters as productively as possible (stress on "as possible" seeing as we're a humble forum discussion with no power in this) - have to lose from the attitude I just exhibited and proposed utilizing? I've no interest in driving away PRODUCTIVE SJWs who can have an objective debate....it's just unfortunate they seem like an endangered species. But driving off the ones who do nothing productive and make ridiculous hypocritical claims or only chime in when there's info or an event that supports their side? Yes, you better believe I wanna run these people off. It's nothing personal, I just find their commentary extremely distracting, disingenuous and unproductive. It's like if GamerGate were a ten step process before it ends (regardless of succeeding or fail) certain people INSIST on obsessing over step one. Why? Because it suits their agenda. No, **** that. We discussed step one to death, and even IF Bryy were to somehow prove that every GamerGate supporter is a mysoginist and a bully and every bad word in the world, gawker, gamasutra and others are still losing advertisers rapidly. (Colgate left today, btw, if it wasn't mentioned) The debate is moving forward regardless of what they wish to obsess on, simply because we're seeing the effects of GamerGate be set in motion. I want to discuss the hear and now, not last month. But yeah, I'm always open to discussion. Give me a good reason why you think my tone was counter-productive just now and I'll gladly stop and apologize. As for now though....? All I heard was a "well maybe if the planets aligned and you were nicer, he might've listened a little bit." Well damn, I better bend over backwards to try and make that happen and constantly welcome his nonsensical claims while avoiding the urge to highlight the logical fallacies of his claims, huh? Wouldn't wanna squander our chances of a miracle!
  3. Sadly that doesn't seem to be a tactic specific to Bryy but to much of the anti-GG side...just so we're clear, that kind of **** annoys me more so than the issues at hand now, simply because REGARDLESS of what we discuss, such tactics are counterintuitive to progress. And sadly as we've seen now, they can be implemented on a massive scale... Side note? Someone help me here: https://mobile.twitter.com/Kingofpol/status/525755692318457856 Kotakuinaction has a thread dissing the knife and discussing the letter. Am I blind? I see an envelope and a lighter. This is confusing and annoying the hell outta me cause I've no idea where this discussion is coming from.
  4. GEE WHERE'D HE GO AGAIN R WE PLAYING HIDE AND SEEK???
  5. um, I don't really respond well to conspiracy theory tinfoil hat rants against my character. But if you insist... the question was what am I doing to combat sexism in the industry? I'm kind of making a game with a female main character. Ok I'll organize it nice and simple. The question is two-fold: 1) Why don't you do something about the propagation you oppose, AKA the very same propagation you want us to oppose and the propagation you imply no one is doing anything about? It seems very hypocritical to expect us to do so or to complain about it happening when you yourself do nothing about it. I also don't see how not condoning or supporting the "side" it comes from absolves you from responsibility, as we ALL don't condone it. That kind of logic is what leads to people watching a beating while thinking "someone should do something." 2) Why don't you do something about the bullying propagation your side is guilty of? My intention is obvious: your post implies something horrible or disingenuous within the GamerGate movement in that while we claim to oppose that stuff, we do nothing to stop it. You say we should do something to stop it....like what? We can't. You cannot stop anonymous trolls doing things like saying "I'mma rape you." KotakuinAction just had a frontpage discussion the other day about stomping out a troll who was back to threaten Anita. They were protecting and helping Anita. But will it matter? Absolutely not, because the trolls are endless. They can catch three and three more can get through. In that sense my message was a sort of "let he who is without sin cast the first stone" sort of message. No one has provided a WORKING solution to stop such propagation, and thus no one is allowed to criticize. Ironically, on a side note, GamerGate does have a working solution to stop the Anti-bullying messages simply because, as mentioned, those people are not anonymous and have jobs where posting such messages is (or should be) frowned upon, so luckily those guys in particular can be stopped. On that note, a third question... 3) Bryy, would you be willing to email Gawker sponsors and alert them to the kinds of messages their writers and editors have been posting on twitter, and alert them that you (surely) don't condone bullying?
  6. Aaaaand Bryy left the thread. Check the users watching this thread. Once more for emphasis: When I began law school I got a job doing translation work for a law firm that wanted to know english counterparts to German phrases and terms. Very first day chatting with the guy in charge of the law firm, he told me studying law will change your way of thinking and you'll have difficulty discussing issues with other people because you'll learn objective debate, and others will seem all over the place and incapable of productive discussion. At the time I found it an odd statement cause I couldn't fathom how that would work. Didn't wanna doubt a guy with world's more experience than me, just struggled imagining it. And he was right. Sadly. :C On that note, at the risk of sounding like an ass, as a general statement to ANY anti-GG supporter who occassionally comes by this thread? Put up or shutup. You want childish? Childish is leaving the thread the moment "omg I can't counter that argument" like Bryy just did. Childish is resorting to name-calling and ad hominem attacks. I made a point, I was called a child and he left the thread without addressing the point. If you want to be taken seriously, put 'em up and defend your stance. If you're incapable of doing so, kindly shutup, as you're incapable of provoking or taking part in productive debate. And yes, I can be an incredible ass to people who I feel are hiding under the guise of "oh I didn't respond cause of his tone." Why should I bother minding my tone when you seem to hate it regardless? After all, you're the one who looks bad leaving the thread without responding with counter-arguments, not me. The people who would think I look bad are the exact emotionally-driven people who I consider incapable of progress, and thus I don't care if they think I'm mean or what they think. The people who like what I say focus on the context of what I said, not who I am or how I said it. So good riddance I say. I'm done with acting welcoming to opposition solely on the grounds of appearing more accepting and kind. That's the very same opposition that has GamerGate so ferverently trying to prove we're not monsters, I somehow doubt they'll notice any kindness given in debate. I'll give kindness to those who prove they can be objective and can actually have a productive debate. For those who can't? Well...apparently they leave on their own after some classy name-calling. Look at the bright side: At least now he'll have more time to work on his flow chart making skills. ( <---- and yes that was childish. C: )
  7. How about you actually address the points I'm making instead of resorting to ad hominem attacks? Or can you not because you realize I've just highlighted a massive fallacy in your way of thinking? And on a side note, if you interpret the caps and all the exclamation points as "rage," I can assure you they're actually "comedy." I'm literally laughing at my chair about how weak your arguments are.
  8. Not only that, now that I feel my point has been made, can we talk about how stupid the idea is that "I really really loathe this bad thing that the opposition is doing and it disgusts me they don't do anything about it in order to stop it, BUT BY GOD ASKING ME TO GET OFF MY ASS AND DO SOMETHING ABOUT THAT BAD THING I HATE IS RIDICULOUS." And before the "well then why don't YOU stop their anti-bullying messages" come in, we are. Promise you those guys won't have jobs in the near future. (Mind you "near" for something like this could take a year)
  9. So why don't you do something to stop them from propagating, Bryy? Um... I'm not a part of GamerGate so my example kind of does not correspond to me. Ok, so why don't you stop the propagating that happens from your side, such as the pro-bullying tweets? Propagating of what? Are you honestly suggesting that people tweeting and posting "she didn't deserve it but..." are equatable to #StopGamerGate? I just said. Propagating of this pro-bullying mentality. There's been not one, not two, but three instances of a journalist on the anti-GG side propagating the pro-bullying stance. What's more, this isn't something that's died down as the third instance happened just today. So why aren't you stopping it Bryy?? Could it be that you're a terrible human being who only pretends to want to stop it to further your own agenda!?!?!!? And in reality you have no intention of helping and hope it and countless acts of bullying continue happening???!!!! You and your entire movement DISGUST me Bryy. For shame.
  10. So why don't you do something to stop them from propagating, Bryy? Um... I'm not a part of GamerGate so my example kind of does not correspond to me. Ok, so why don't you stop the propagating that happens from your side, such as the pro-bullying tweets?
  11. So why don't you do something to stop them from propagating, Bryy?
  12. IT'S ****ING AWFUL. It's so bad wtf. I would at least expect something like that to get a passing grade in a writing class, but no, a 14 year old could've written that to get a B+ from their english teacher. If you haven't played it, go play it. This combined with screenshots and stuff of Brianna Wu's planned game thingy really puts things in perspective about just how astoundingly weak the opposition's argument about how this is strictly targeting female video game developers really is. We all knew it was weak, but THIS bad...? Omg...I'm in shock.
  13. I just "played" depression quest. It's 1AM here and I woke up, can't sleep and need something to do. Decided to check it out to see why it gets made fun of. OH MY GOD. I was expecting a game that's weak on game design and game mechanics but focuses more on story and meaningful messages. NOPE. This **** is a full text-based adventure on par with one of those Goosebumps choose-your-adventure books. This isn't even a video game, it qualifies more as a book. And holy ****. As someone who's suffered depression, I can honestly say this thing is the most melodramatic piece of **** I've ever seen. Yes, depression is crippling to the point where you feel worthless and don't even try out of fear of failure, and often gets mistaken as laziness because of such symptoms. But these parts like "hey bby I'm your hot girlfriend and I'm in the mood for sex tonight <3" and your only choices are to either claim you have a headache with a "not tonight dear" or on par with going to huddle in the corner in the fetal position while crying your eyes out....? Get the **** out. Grade-A melodramatic bull****. Depression is just a crippling effect on your motivation, self-confidence, energy and self-esteem. It's NOT something that makes people respond to "hey do you want to eat this delicious ice cream...?" with "NO. :[ I'D RATHER CRY IN THE CORNER AND FEEL MISERABLE." I was honestly expecting something with some degree of merit - just not merits that matter or are relevant to the gaming industry. I was expecting this to be an example of something worth defending, just not something that gamers have an interest in defending, thus we've got avant garde journalists who don't understand why we show no interest in it. The writing is god awful ABYSMAL, and the self-loathing one feels during depression is cranked up to 11 for this, making it ridiculously unrealistic as the main character almost seems to be TRYING to make people feel sorry for them. (aka being a drama queen and constantly fishing for sympathy and compliments) All that did for me was help solidify my suspicions on the types of personalities these people are, and it certainly doesn't help combat the suspicions some have about these people being professional victims.
  14. Was it your idea to make it confusing and incoherent or was that the idea of the person who hijacked it?
  15. https://8chan.co/gg/src/1414147140793.png And then I will tell my grandchildren that that's how it really happened.
  16. I had a feeling she'd be more charismatic than people would expect. Dunno why, just did. And yeah honestly, she's the shield they should be hiding behind cause she seems more personable than any of them. And that's sad. Because when you actually focus on what's being said, it's "I'm a diva who isn't satisfied with my position in life because I can't brag about my job to my friends to impress them, so I want to change what I do by changing my job entirely without actually quitting my job." Her entire speech has several hypocrisies highlighted by the editing, several points that suggest an ego on the girl, and a hilarious little bit where she basically implies sabotaging her own book launch and appearing as a victim when in reality she wasn't happy with the political beliefs of the website her book was hosted on so she "targeted herself" to get it off there and hurt the very website that sponsored her. Gee, I wonder if that's something unwise to say in a setting where people are beginning to doubt the legitimacy of some of the claims and bomb threats.
  17. I must not be very smart, because I can't make head or tail of this flow chart one bit...where does it start, why isn't everything connected, what's going on For a flow chart, it certainly doesn't seem to flow. I spent a good five minutes staring at it trying to figure it out before realizing how much time I spent on the damned thing, questioning my intelligence, realizing it's just a confusing mess and then saying "aw **** it" before chatting with a ladyfriend.
  18. http://i.imgur.com/xrZhBTn.png Crowdfunded game with lots of support and backers just released, the lead developer is GG. Big surprise, websites like Polygon and Kotaku don't mention it's release.
  19. Am I the only one who starts laughing at how she worded her tweet? Something about it sounds hilarious. EDIT: The tone. It reminds me of this video at the very start: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=704XtQ8vhWk
  20. Wtf no. .....I celebrated in a ritual dance to that terriawful article Gawker posted where they called their readers and sponsors idiots and fascists.
  21. It's odd. To me, she represents a mature reaction to the drama, aka the entire article reads like "I get a lot of scrutiny while in the public eye, and yes it's unfair and uncomfortable, but I can't let that stop me from being me, nor can I let that allow me to hate people as a collective." Damn right, that's exactly the attitude everyone should have. But then at the end she remarks that she thinks this article will garner scorn and disdain from GamerGate supporters...wtf why? It's like she's misunderstood something or Iunno what, but we can't know because she never clarifies or explains what GamerGate means to her. Best of luck to her, either way. Hopefully the article sparks talks with some people and she'll realize she's got nothing to worry about.
  22. This is absolute insanity, this world we live in.... And today has been particularly special. Whole day summarized as: MEANWHILE, AT ANTI-GG HEADQUARTERS https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CmC62Eg82E8
  23. Links bro? I JUS' DID. Real question is how the media is gonna mention Zoe again if she's guilty of some of the exact same **** she was complaining about.
  24. Any links for proof? Sorry, had gotten caught up in reading stuff: https://twitter.com/PlayDangerously/status/525041932037156864 Follow his link, then follow her link. The article she links to does everything from writing a small slanderous biography while showing photos of his house.
