DLC vs Expansion Packs
Darji replied to Intoxicated_Ant's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Personally I think they should work on the next game or on the toolset and than let the community do the rest.XD but if DLC than like they did in New Vegas. That was actually really worth the money.- 139 replies

I said maybe to "equal" the malus in strength and constitution for woman. I do not think that you actually could make a game anymore where woman are the only ones with penalties in their stats^^- 310 replies

Pretty sure Boudica at least did actually fight in hand to hand combat, as would have been expected of a woman in her position in her culture. Yes but not in a plate or very heavy armor... These armor were for prestige and not really for fighting in real battles. Maybe in some tournaments.- 310 replies

Why do you keep linking that? Do you think it proves anything? That because some Amazon tribe had female fighters 200 years ago, that women are equal to men on a battlefield? Does that quote somehow historically equalizes the sexes in matters of war? Certainly not, that would be ridiculous. But its the actual example of a all-female army, one that defeated a contemporary and much stronger force no less. I saw it as a apt response to the post I quoted, more apt than 'LOL ITS FANTASY IDIOT LOL' anyway. Yes and they wore no heavy Armor they used their own strong points to defeat them and none of them were wearing heavy plate armors not only because they did not have them but because it would give them a huge disadvantage. Neither did who they fought. No one called me a idiot, that was a indicator of how stupid the 'fantasy' argument is. And no, a woman defeating a man in hand-to-hand combat isn't fantasy. Melee was still very important in the era of those dahomey amazons. It would still be all the way up the world wars. Ok then lets skip plate armors completely because they are stupid anyway. I am totally fine with that. Again if you want to go for realism do it right. Penalty in strength and constitution for women. Maybe some penalties for men in charisma. And than also give woman player a heavy malus while wearing plate armor.- 310 replies

Oh yeah give us the options for skills like the perk ladykiller or the opposite one I forgot in New Vegas for example. As for romance with NPCs: I do not think that is a good idea. Rather have some romantic options with your party member you can obtain or find. These would far more developed then some random NPC romance.

It happened in real life though. It just wasn't the norm, and varied with culture. A woman can murder a man. The average man is stronger than the average woman, yes, but an average woman is still lethal, and a very above average woman vs. an average man could end very badly for the male. Yes of course can a woman kill a man. But not if both are wearing heavy plate armor that was really really heavy especially for woman and which gave them a huge disadvantage.- 310 replies

This is true. I actually imported Fahrenheit as well. And what FO3 was epically lame as well. Have yet to play TW2 since TW1 just didn't grab me. You really should play the Witcher 2. Yes Witcher 1 was also great but it was also very slow paced and the beginning was really bad. In Witcher 2 it is great from the beginning.- 310 replies

Also another thing. Who do you think was wearing stuff like plate mails? Common soldats who fought on the frontlines? Oh you better think again. If you wore a plate mail you were some king on the battlefield or some really highly ranked soldat. If you have fought on the frontlines you wore very light armor that gives some sort of protection but were you also could move.- 310 replies

That's not even armor. No its a mage outfit. Not armor... Here this is leather armor: Armor for both male and female fighters. Armor that suit their look and also let them move fast. Will it kill them in real life? Yes sure but a plate mail does not do much either as well. One hard sweep and you are dead anyways and it does not even matter what you are wearing if they land a good hit you are dead. You do not have hit points in real life.- 310 replies

1. That's not a real life example. 2. That's not armor anyway. She's wearing clothes. Show me please magic in real life. WE are still talking about fantasy and not real life. Again if we want to make it real I want my being female will give you a strength and constitution penalty. Its her fighting gear. That is the stuff she wears when going in to battles because she is a mage....- 310 replies

Boobplates can break a woman's sternum. Again if you want to go with realism. A male knight in plate armor will destroy the female one because the plate mail is damn heavy and for a woman a huge disadvantage. If I wanted to go with realism, I'd deny the concept of plate armor itself. Armor was already being downsized for mobility due to the invention of the crossbow. I do think that the boobplate is retarded and awkward, but its still better than the chainmail bikini. http://madartlab.com...-and-lady-bits/ This entry has a few good examples of female armor, the best not requiring boobplates or chainmail bikinis. It also has a terrific suggestion to shift the focus from the torso to the face, which is what happened in IE games. ok why is this even absurd for a mage character or better a succubus? Is it way to overdone.. Yeah of course because its asian. but again a Succubus or even nymph could totally look like that. Even some crazy dark demonic magic mage who is not fighting on the frontlines would be totally fine. edit: Of course this does not offer any defense one full hit and you are dead but maybe has some magic bonus attributs or stats.- 310 replies

Tropes that could be avoided

I think a form of romance is doable and would be welcomed by some fans (not a big fan of it myself) but personally I think serious relationships in a video game are an absolute joke. Just because a character calls you "husband" doesn't mean you love her; it feels like empty words and it's an empty relationship....because she's an AI program. I don't care if it's a roleplaying game, roleplaying love just isn't doable imo. Having said that though, I did enjoy the little bit of flirting that the Courier and Cass did, and I know a lot of people liked Doctor Dala from OWB. I think flirting is fine, as flirting can be playful, flattering and funny without being too serious, but it really shouldn't extend beyond that. A "friends with benefits" sort of relationship could be humorous, fun and appease those that DO want romance without being awkward for those that don't. Seems like a fair in-between point. Thats all that should be. Maybe some flirting maybe some hot affection at night and maybe imply that they married in the end if they are still alive. Do ont go with the getting married, having kids etc during the story. Timeskips are the worst things for RPGs because they always fail to deliver^^ -

But that's what armor does to women. Look up modern female soldiers on google. CEREMONIAL armor is a whole other matter though. Hell, I've seen dresses forged out of metal. totally wrong: just a small example and I can show you dozens more. Worst platemail I've ever seen. sorry its getting late here so I guess you have to take this one: But if you really want realism than you also have to give woman a penalty in constitution and strength . Because that is how it is in real life. In real life normally you would never let a woman be a "tank" since they are much weaker than male "tanks". And no that is not sexist that these are facts. That is also why in men and woman don't compete against each other in sport events on the world class level. That is how the evolution has build us that is why woman actually get the children and we do not. We should except that men and woman never can be fully equal. Yes we can be equal in society and standings. But we will never be equal in physical aspects. And for you wikki: Worst plate mails have ever seen. these woman also do not wear plate mails because they are way to heavy for women in general.- 310 replies

Tropes that could be avoided
Darji replied to Margaretha's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Yeah exactly. Woman prefer or see different things as sexy. Like eyes, some character traits like mysterious or "emo" and so on. Its much easier to please actually men since they often go for the visual aspects than to please women. But that's how humans are. Yes of course things like character is important but the first thing you actually or better normally see is the appearance of a person. If you don't get attracted than the chance is high that you wont even talk to this person at all. -

Older games had also a higher budget. In this time and age it would be perfect just to have a great SP experience. Something you actually enjoy because it has a great story, great characters and a very atmospheric world and not because its fun to play with friends.

Tropes that could be avoided
Darji replied to Margaretha's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
This is pop culture and we both like it. You like it as it is, I am a bit bored and often annoyed today. RPG has not to be about saving a damsel in distress or being attacked by wolvess. It can be, and it can be done well, but it can be something else, because it is not what makes an RPG an RPG. I have been saving damsel in distress for 20 years. THAT is boring. I would be willing to try something new. What else do you want? A World where everyone can defend himself? A world where no one needs to be rescued so no one can be offended in any way? A world which has no beautiful women and men? A world without prostiitution (both ways) A world without sexual attractions? Without lets say nymphs, succubi or character that are making use of their sexappeal jsut like in real life etc ? I am really interested how you want to make a fantasy game without troupes or people that do not need to be rescued or killed etc. -
Magic System
Darji replied to oldmanpaco's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
The problem I have with magic is that its almost always totally broken and overpowered in the later game. I really haven't played any game where magic was not the way to destroy your enmies in one go. Also since it seems that magic is bound to ones soul the magic should fit their personality or soul.
