  1. Well that's problematic for me because your first sentence is untrue, I have trouble believing the rest of your post. no, it's not untrue. oblivion level scaling is where everything keeps going up with you in level. feargus SPECIFICALLY said that it was going to be fixed once you enter the area that level scaling is implemented in. that is fact, based on what is written there. as to the other, he also said that they were only using SOME level scaling. this would seriously imply that it is only being used in parts of the game, or in certain locations, or maybe even with certain enemies. it is not being used in the entirety of the game, but as an augmentation. again, this is fact based on what is written in the quote. so where is what i'm saying untrue?
  2. Because I wanted an "old school" RPG as compared to the current RPGs with too much streamlined mechanics. partially. you ultimately backed it because you trust the devs. or because you want to.
  3. maybe because it's scaling the encounter based on your level? because... you know... changing things is scaling? also, could you possibly be any more condescending/i know more than thou? i mean jeez.
  4. in all honesty, just getting people to think about what you just said at all rubber ducky was pretty much the entire point of this thread. if it helps tone down that even with one person, then it served its purpose. will it do that? probably wishful thinking. but who knows.
  5. Then don't shout at people to "THINK", quote the relevant parts here so people have the information they need to form valid opinions. At least say how you know that's pretty much exactly what they're doing. part of it can be seen by just reading the comment. they aren't doing oblivion level scaling. that is basic reading comprehension. the rest of it is buried about 600+ comments ago. not really up to digging it up. regardless, i'm done in here. i'm just going to get angry and start yelling at people. and that won't help anything.
  6. i made this thread because i know the internet, and i was hoping to maybe cut back on it a smidgeon. probably a hopeless thing to do, but if no one tries we'll never know. not gonna argue about it or debate it. use the thread or don't, tis your choice. and everyone reading it.
  7. no, just trying to be overly optimistic that people can use a smidgeon of common sense. maybe.
  8. which is pretty much exactly what they're doing. they aren't going to make rats uber or anything like that. i mean seriously, THINK people, don't just react! Come on, the quote is right here in this thread, it doesn't say either of these options are what they're doing. No need to panic about Bethesda silliness, but also lets try not to apologize for Obsidian by making things up. given that i was there for that back and forth in the comments i think i'm probably better informed than the person in the OP? possibly? that was a concern that was addressed. they aren't doing that. pretty much everyone in the comments who had been worried about level scaling was pretty much put at ease about it. and there was a fairly differing opinion on the subject overall. and there have been plenty of people acting like the sky is falling and it's going to be oblivion kinda level scaling. it's just insane to think that.
  9. because that's totally what was actually said... you have to realize that what you have here is a quote taken completely out of context, and without any followup of any sort. they aren't doing oblivion style level scaling in the slightest. it also doesn't even remotely sound like they're doing bethesda style crafting. what was said in the comments is that at least part of it is going to be like in BG/BG2 where you put back together a legendary item. but you don't know that because you aren't hanging out in the comments where you can ask people that have been in direct contact with the devs. or ask the devs themselves.
  10. and i wondered why i haven't been posting on the forums much... stuff like the level scaling confirmed thread is a pretty good example of it. people, think for just a second. why did we back this project in the first place? because we're trusting this particular group to make a game, because they've done it before. and they've not only done it before, but they've done a great job at it. they've also learned a lot along the way since those halcyon days, which would suggest that they're even better prepared to make a great game. so why don't we actually do what we did when we had next to no information and basically a bunch of names, game and developer, thrown at us? trust them. that's really all i have to say about anything right now. but think about it, and try to not just react to information that you receive. try to think about what it means before you post. emotional responses aren't going to help anything, and might make this whole thing a big mess. and i don't think anyone here wants that. and maybe if you have to overreact, or just react to something in a negative way... keep it in here so it doesn't clutter up discussion, or make it so that we end up talking about it for pages trying to clear up a misunderstanding or misread word? come back with a thought out comment and concern. not "o noes! the sky is falling!"
  11. which is pretty much exactly what they're doing. they aren't going to make rats uber or anything like that. i mean seriously, THINK people, don't just react!
  12. oy vey... if you actually read what's said, they're pretty much doing exactly what most of you want. things will be the same level as when you entered a place and return. that is stated in the quote. fixed levels, after entry, is exactly what you want. why is it such a big deal if you can choose to do things in a slightly different order, but ultimately get the same challenge out of it? talk about blowing things out of proportion here.
  13. really, i'm good with whatever they decide to do. but i wouldn't mind being able to get a t-shirt at some point.
  14. i'm with leaving obsidian the choice pretty much. was just wondering about what people thought it might be more than anything else. honestly, i'm kinda hoping for something slightly tongue in cheek and slightly serious. just to make it fun. on a different note feargus said this just a few minutes ago: Obsidian Entertainment 3 minutes ago @Steven The Obsidian Order will get some nice placement in the game. It's absolutely at the forefront of our minds.
  15. whoa... a second thread already. wasn't expecting that. and just to confirm, it was josh that said that about having the order in the group. bruce found it. which is really going to be pretty awesome, i have to admit. welcome to all the new peoples and stuff.
  16. have to say that it's pretty nice that we have been able to make a semi-significant contribution through doing this. also kudos to whoever managed to get the permanent titles. i think that's a really cool way of doing this. also welcome to everyone since the last time i posted in here. glad to see the order grow.
  17. Oh right! THAT'S the series I've been meaning to read, since the Suvudu fantasy cage match with Kylar Stern. I completely forgot the title though, thanks for reminding me of it. happy to be able to help. it's definitely worth the read. i've actually read it three times now.
  18. lol. it's actually something a bit beyond an assassin in the night angel trilogy by brent weeks. it's good. give it a look sometime.
  19. updated my name because jester was the only thing i could think of at the time. my new name is now Tristan, Obsidian Order Master Wetboy. come to me if you need someone... taken care of. also kudos if you get the reference.
  20. anyone here looked at bastion recently? it's pretty freaking amazing looking to be painted/drawn. pretty isometric and 2d more or less as well. you CAN make an amazing looking game without 3d.
  21. Now, in all fairness, I really enjoyed the Modern Warfare series. I'm not a huge FPS fan or anything, but they were a lot of fun. Dumbed down RPGs on the other hand... just sad. it's not so much CoD itself, it's that everything else is also trying to be CoD. it's just annoying as all get out.
  22. backed pretty much as soon as i saw what you guys were trying to do. big fan and i'm glad to see you finally getting to do the kind of game that you've been wanting to for a while. in some ways this is a terrible time to be a gamer what with all the CoD clones, and RPGs being dumbed down for consoles and pretty much everything of that nature. this is one of the reasons this is a great time to be a gamer.
