You are forgetting how Bioware economically and efficiently handles this in Mass Effect and Dragon Age series, especially the decisions you made in one game that follow into another. Perhaps you meant something different..
-
That's too bad, I just thought it silly that a 17 year old girl is a leader of a state and that you could implement a republic democracy like in Stonebridge. That would have been really nice and not at all demanding, I don't see where would these huge resource consuming barriers you are talking about be, it would just involve a few more subquests and dialog options.
-
Yes, but being the leader of your own faction doesn't necessarily mean you are restricted in any way, only not being able to ally with the single nemesis/faction of the main story line. I haven't played that much yet but I would like to be able to overthrow the anachronistic Queen of the Royalists and institute a republic like Stonebridge, is that for example possible? P.S. Why do developers keep thinking that showing huge boobs on scantily clad female characters is enticing and interesting, that is one of the reasons I will not play any female characters because it is too immersion breaking...and do really any male gamers play as females, doesn't that throw the RPG aspect right out the window?

I was wondering, since Obsidian did such a fantastic job with Fallout New Vegas(minus the bugs) regarding the variety and relevancy of quests, not artificially constricting gameworld pathways and incredible faction system which really raised the bar for all games and brought a whole new level of immersion into the gameworld, how come you haven't implemented such detailed faction mechanic and character's influence in DS3? Was it a matter of simply not having enough time to do it?

Best ARPG gameplay ever?
metamag replied to metamag's topic in Dungeon Siege III: General Discussion
1) I just don't feel I'm hitting the enemies, it just feels like as if I'm just hitting the air and that kills the fun factor completely for me. That's why I'm bored while playing. Why I`m not bored when playing Diablo, Torchlight but only Ds 3... That`s probably the reason. The best feel of hitting is in Diablo series and Torchlight I think. I don't know what to say to this, I feel just the opposite, are you sure you are not just making things up? And seriously, you were not bored when playing Diablo and Torchlight, do most repetitive games ever(especially Torchlight, I couldn't even be bothered to finish it), you are seriously making sh*it up now.. I'm still not getting it, I played every ARPG ever, I tried to dislike the DS3 inventory screen before I tried the demo based on people like you and I still can't dislike it because I can't see anything functionally or visually wrong with it..it's just different, why the hell does everything have to be exactly the same? I hated it too before I learned how to play, now I'm embarrassed on how clueless and lazy I was. There are tiers of armor and there is a huge difference between them, armor within the same tier(they have the same labels) are just colored differently, but I agree, armor system like in Dragon Age would have been preferable, but nothing inherently wrong with this system too. Many of those skills were quite irrelevant, it felt very spammy and redundant, here everything is punctuated with relevance. I can't see any difference, only Diablo 2 type crafting system is missing, nothing else. This is pure bullsh*it, you keep mentioning these mystical people who play Diablo 2 and I've never met or heard of anyone of them in real life. But not only that I don't see any real foundation for your claim of exceptional replayability in Diablo 2 you are talking about, not by a long shot. -
Best ARPG gameplay ever?
metamag replied to metamag's topic in Dungeon Siege III: General Discussion
Well, I played pretty much every single RPG of any kind(on PC only) in the last 10 years so I can say that combat here feels refreshing and invigorating, like I'm discovering a whole new sub-genre. I hope there will be DLC/expansion or something soon, I can't get enough of it. -
Best ARPG gameplay ever?

Er, I play it on PC and there are no problems with controls and camera whatsoever, learn to play(look at the second post of this topic) and disable camera auto-orient. -
Best ARPG gameplay ever?

Hm, I specifically remember playing Sacred 2 demo and after seeing the bizarrely poor weapon animations uninstalling the demo and never thinking about Sacred 2 again. So, I much prefer the whole package which DS3 offers. -
Best ARPG gameplay ever?
metamag replied to metamag's topic in Dungeon Siege III: General Discussion
I watched all the Diablo 3 videos, Barbarian will certainly be an extremely primitive click fest, way inferior to Lucas. As for others the only thing that will be better is that you won't be forced to play a gender you don't want to play, for example I don't want to play any of the female characters in DS3 because it's immersion breaking. Can't really see how Diablo 3 could be better except for crafting system and the game will probably be a lot bigger. Seriously, Dungeon Siege 3 is far better than Torchlight, Diablo 2 and Titan Quest in every way. If that's not enough for people I don't know what is. -
Best ARPG gameplay ever?
metamag replied to metamag's topic in Dungeon Siege III: General Discussion
Like I said, developers really should've posted videos on how to play the game and in how many ways it is different from classic ARPGs. Oh, and people should really understand that this game is better than Titan Quest, Torchlight, Diablo 2 or any other ARPG you played... The only RPGs I haven't played are Dragon Age 2 and Witcher 2, so they might be better, I don't know. -
Best ARPG gameplay ever?
metamag replied to metamag's topic in Dungeon Siege III: General Discussion
The entire combat feels exceptionally well thought out, meaningful and visceral. This is clearly the case with the pure melee character Lucas, no more mindless click spam fests. Here literally every click, motion and ability matters, you actually have to retrain yourself from all other ARPG where you are not encouraged to think about pretty much anything you do, only to have spam "ability". If you click too much you are actually "punished". I usually never stick to melee characters in RPGs, always end up as a mage, but this is a genuine evolution of ARPG gameplay. And everything is accompanied by fluid animation. As for statistics system it follows through with the combat, meaning that every piece of equipment has big effects and determines how you play and amplifies or decreases chosen abilities. Best ARPG gameplay ever?

LOL, look at this topic I posted not so long ago. Wow, I was so clueless it's embarrassing. -
I must admit, despite the acute case of consolitis with classic symptoms such as huge fonts, small text sizes, poor textures, disappearing bodies(in old Titan Quest they never disappeared unless you loaded the game and with same amount of rag doll physics) and linearity I can't remember the last time I enjoyed ARPG so much. I'm starting to think that this game might actually have the best combat/character build/statistics effects/animation system of all the ARPGs out there, it might even be better than Diablo 3, certainly when Lucas gameplay is concerned but you really need to learn it first. And PC controls pose no trouble at all anymore, everything works perfectly now when I know what I'm doing, it's like second nature.. The only thing it's missing is crafting system. I really feel sad for all those people who were not patient enough to see through consolitis, I almost was one of them, it is going to be a very enjoyable game indeed. P.S. My biggest regret is that it was not ported from PC and then dumbed down for consoles like Witcher 2 will...

Well, if knockdown has no effect on bosses there is really no point to it. Blade Dash is perfectly suited to destroy any enemy that isn't a boss.
-
So, which one is longer to recover from, stun or knowckdown since stun doesn't stack on knockdown?

Playing Demo ='s Cancel Pre-order for me!
metamag replied to Roland's topic in Dungeon Siege III: General Discussion
This is called Focus, and Lucas (the warrior) needs those blue orbs just as much as the other characters. LOL, he actually needs it more. OP, learn to play, I had the exact same thoughts as you at first, but now I see it has the best thought out and enjoyable gameplay I ever experienced in an ARPG despite being heavily degraded through consolification, and controls now work perfectly fine when I know what I am doing and why. -
I don't understand why would you ever upgrade this ability over other abilities. Its purpose is to stun, but both upgrades do not increase this purpose, one increases the chance of knockdown and one increases the damage(completely irrelevant). Is knockdown accumulative to stun? Is the knockdowned enemy always stunned and on the ground? How long does it last, can you ever knockdown bosses? Does knockdown push the enemy away from you or is it on the same spot?
-
Yep, I've never seen or heard of anything like this.

Precisely like that, I'm really surprised I can't google find it, since surely it is a problem for tens of thousands of people if I never encountered such issue with any other game nor have I even had any kind of other graphical issues with other games. I systematically went through changing and turning off different graphical options in the game but nothing makes it go away. Hopefully someone from Obsidian will shine some light on this. I get the feeling now that the full game will have this problem too. Perhaps a moderator can PM someone from Obsidian, maybe they don't even view this forum... EDIT: Even if turning off Vsync would solve this I wouldn't do it because screen tearing looks horrible, that's why vsync exists in the first place.

I didn't want to post this before since it's only just a demo but I'm having this weird consistent graphical occurrence/bug where whole ingame screen(not in menus) has these subtle wavy horizontal lines, well they are not lines per se but more of something like an interference that you would get on old TVs with analog receiver. This is the first game I'm seeing this. I can't get a screenshot because it comes out as just black screen. Here is my PC: ATi Radeon HD 5670 1GB 4 GB DDR3 RAM, 1600MHz AMD Phenom II X2 550 Samsung 22'' LCD, HDMI cable Window 7 Ultimate 64bit All drivers for every component are updated and all graphics settings are application controlled. Please tell me this is just the demo.

Yes, the more I play it now with Lucas the more I like it, it's quite unique but in a good way and you have to unlearn the mechanics of classic ARPGs. Definitely one of the best ARPGs that came out in the last 2 years. Still it's sad that it has been degraded by multiplatforming. Multiplatforming has been degrading games for a while now with the gap between PC and console hardware being so huge now, for example Crysis 2 got multiplatformed and now it has worse textures than 4 year old Crysis 1. That's how big the gap is...

Last witch boss fight in the demo
metamag replied to metamag's topic in Dungeon Siege III: General Discussion
See, if the game was slower like the first Dragon Age, or a bit faster but still much slower than now this wouldn't happen. This was suppose to be about character builds and tactics, not super reflexes, I don't like games where you have to have super reflexes to competently play them.
