Certainly.
White Wolf has created it's own storyless "d20-ish" standard system in the form of the nWoD.
Unfortunately, rather than doing the smart thing and going the generic Gurps route, they've instead made a half-assed attempt at a middle ground using "almost oWoD" things. (in the form of their "new" clans and other nonsense) and tried to hard to "not be the oWoD".
Not only that, but they're making the same mistake they did with the oWoD. Though this time they're bloating the system (with pointless bloodlines and backgrounds and other useless "game tools") rather than keeping it streamlined.
They could have very easily chosen to just "reboot" the old setting, applied it to the new system, and had a fully functional game as well as a framework for people to make their own games.
Instead they made a weak attempt to copy the various peoples who copied them when the oWoD was first out and at the height of it's popularity.
People keep complaining that the oWoD's story was the problem... clearly these people are being short sighted and are missing the fact that the story wasn't the problem... MANY an RPG has a storyline/solid setting and has done well... what was wrong with the oWoD is the fact WW abused that story. Particularly in the area of sidelining the players in favor of their "in house" characters.
