  1. I pretty much enjoy the FF series. The first FF I played was FF 7 and I found the gameplay and storyline entertaining, probably because it was something new from the CRPGS I had played until then.(BG and Fallout)

Then I went back and played through FF 4,5 and 6, six being my favorite of all the FFs I've played. Probably because of the sheer amount of interesting characters you could play and Kefka...this guy is one of the most seriously wacko villains in games IMHO.

Eight I enjoyed as well. It was a sappy love story with the usual FF staples but I do like sappy love stories(yes I admit it) and was happy that things worked out for everyone.

Never played FF9 or FF 10. I'd probably give them a try given the chance, but I don't own a PS2.

Uhhh..but for sheer enjoyment play Fallout.

  2. I thought it was because Anakin falls into lava.

Anakin is the better saberist, but Obi Wan can keep a cooler head and has more experience. Plus my guess is Obi Wan went totally defensive trying to bring Anakin back to the light and Anakin was offensive in his maneuvers and lost control of his head, probably somehow making a critical error that dropped him into the lava.

I'm pretty sure its the lava. In the RoTJ book, Anakin has brief flashbacks about the agonizing heat of the lave as he lays dying.

  3. I want Lucas to make ep VII - IX as well, but how will that happen with all the actors that played main characters old?

Maybe Lucas will do the entire movie with digital graphics, but I don't think he'll go that far...ominous music

  4. I don't anything about game development. I just like the joy of playing games.

But I don't think there is a 'most difficult' part in developing a game. I suppose the designers would have to come up with a intriguing system to pull in the player, the combat system, a world interaction system, puzzles and quests that drive the story and are unique and extremely fun.

Then the programmers have to find ways to actually implement these ideas using their programming skills. They would probably have to go back and forth finding the optimal code that pulls off the ideas of the designers while not putting unnecessary strain on hardware.

The art department would have to give everything the unique look that fits the atmosphere of the game. I suppose this goes for the sound department as well. I don't think their jobs would be any easier.

Then there's the challenge of coordinating everything going on between the departments so everything fits together.

    Doesn't sound easy!

  5. Can't wait to see episode 3.

I really liked episode 1. I don't know why people rag on it so much. But then again I'm very easily entertained and it only took Darth Maul's menacing visage and his awesome skill with the lightsaber to hook me. You really have to appreciate Ray Park's skill. You know how incredibly difficult it is to make smooth transitions from a sword slash to a spinning kick? In fact he was too good and made Maul's death seem...implausible. Plus he made the episode 2 lightsaber fights laughable. Well for me at least.

Episode 2 was ok. The acting and wording, especially the love confession scenes, those were excruciating to watch. However the overall story was pretty good, with Palpatine waeving his grand strategy of simultaneously weakening the Republic with the recalcitrant Seperatists, and making way for the justification of emergency powers and the clone army. You can tell he's getting ready to backstab the separatists after they've served their purpose and weakening the Jedi Knights by deploying them in small numbers as leaders in the clone army. All the more easier to destroy them when the time comes.

I have high hopes for Ep 3

  6. Japanese Mangas are pretty fun.

Everyone here should read Berserk by Kentauro Miura. You know its gonna be good when the you start out with a guy getting it on with a hot girl and then she turns into this Demon-monster thing and the guy blows her head off.

But its much more than pure violence. Love, Honor, Betrayal of the worst kind, Vengeance and some pretty deep philosophy.

I think Darkhorse distributes it. There is an animated series for it as well.

I have the Berserk anime series. I really enjoyed it, despite the ending (One of those cases where the anime only covered the mangas that were done at the time? A cutoff for a second series/season? *shrugs*). One of my favorite anime series to date in any case.

That's most likely the case. I read the Manga that's translated from Japanese to Korean, and it usually comes out a lot faster than in the States. Lets see, the last issue I read is #30. There's been a lot of development since the end of the anime series. The manga is still being published periodically and the story still has some ways to go until the inevitable confrontation.

The Japanese Mangas have a lot of variety to them. Everything from romance to pirates, boxing to huge robots. Not a lot of superhero comics though.

  7. Sheez.  The effusive praise this overrated game gets baffles me.

Let it be known -- plenty of "intelligent" gamers do not think Planescape is the best thing since  sliced bread.  I can think of 15 other games I'd rather play instead.

Hey to each his own. Some people prefer story driven games with lots of interaction between the PC and the world. Some people like running and gunning and others like playing sports games and yet others prefer the thrill of a real time strategy game.

No one was implying that people who prefer other types of games are unintelligent.

Though sometimes we are over-zealous in our praise, but that goes for anyone who has had a particularly cool experience with a game.

  8. Probably, it's because prior to KOTOR I played Jedi Academy/Outcast.  And you know? I think that if KOTOR used similar combat system as does Jedi Academy, it would be the perfect SW game. I mean, those RPG elements are great, but when combined with the real feel of lightsaber duels and Force usage.... it's even greater. THe Powers.. There was nothin like using Force to grab a whole platoon of sith troopers and hurl them into the abyss.....

Yeah, bunny hopping and rolling around your enemy while hurling your mighty attacks at the air before you in hopes that your enemy will be foolish enough to put himself in the path of your blade is so much better. I mean, when is Lucas going to have a real saber fight like that in the movies?

heh, I was like that in the beginning, but the Jedi Knight Games actually do require skills other than rolling around like mad and swinging like crazy.

The single saber style is the best, and if you practice you'll find yourself switching between the three styles for defense and offense while timing your attacks just when the enemy leaves himself open for attack. It's pretty satisfying when the game goes into slowmo just as you deliver the killing blow.

  9. I really liked the combat in Outcast and Academy as well, but combat in a RPG shouldn't be like combat in an action game. How effective a fighter you are in a RPG is determined by your stats and feats, not your hand eye coordination, and frankly that's part of the fun for me.

  10. Japanese Mangas are pretty fun.

  11. Thanks for the answers guys.

I've already played Torment and the Fallout series. They were released in Korea. I guess during that early period of the RPG renaissance they were releasing those games en masse. How they expected Koreans to play through untranslated games like Fallout and Torment is beyond me. I was actually part of a team of translators trying to translate BG from English to Korean. We partly succeeded.

Anyways I found Fallout and Torment in the bargain bins a few weeks later after their release in Korea. I was saddened because people would miss out on some great games. Also having paid full price for the games didn't help matters, but it was worth it I suppose

I'm pretty familiar with past great games since I've been reading all the gaming sites while I was in Korea. What I really need is some info on reliable internet vendors.

I've been at Amazon and they seem to have some great prices there.

  12. I've been living in Korea for the last 10 years, and while there is a huge gaming scene there it's mostly centered on RTS(Starcraft! Warcraft) and MMORPGs like Lineage, World of Warcraft(still beta in Korea I hear) and Diablo. I know Diablo isn't a MMORPG, but it was huge in Korea. Then you have the FPS games that sometimes make it into the market.

Part of this reason is because Koreans are insanely competitive and love to pummel their opponents to the ground. Whether it be with swarms of units destroying everything in their path, showing of the latest shiny item in a MMORPG, or just simply gunning someone down.

Not that I'm complaining, I've played and enjoyed many those games, but my true gaming passion has always been in the single player RPG ever since Baldur's Gate. Amazingly this game was actually released in Korea and sold well, or at least I think it did since they also released BG2 and most of the Infinity Engine games.

But most of the other single player RPGs passed me by. Games that I had only read about on the Internet. Arx Fatalis, Gothic series, Divine Divinity series, Neverwinter Nights, Arcanum, Anachronox and Morrowind are just some of the games I wanted to play but weren't released in Korea. Actually come to think of it NWN and Dungeon Siege were released but it was all in Korean, which kept me from purchasing the games. Korean just sounds awkward in a Western based fantasy game. I was only able to play KotOR because a couple of SW fans and I decided to purchase the game internationally, to save on shipping. I don't know who makes the decision on what games to import to Korea because gems like KotOR never get released but instead they release Lionheart...which was fun, but not half as fun as KotOR.

So now I find myself living in the States. I was browsing through Amazon when the realization suddenly struck me. Hey! I can buy those games I really wanted to play way back when. And they're so cheap! And I don't have to wait for frikken forever for them to cross the goddamn Pacific Ocean. And woohoo! low shipping costs!

So before I go on a game buying spree, I'd like to ask the members on this forum to recommend some trusty internet sellers. Of course I'll be looking around on my own, but I thought it would be prudent to draw upon the advice given here.

I feel so happy! I can't wait for my work to be finished so I can embark on a gaming spree for a couple of days! :D

  13. I liked both games as well. It's been quite awhile since I've played both but I thought the gameplay aspects IWD2 were on par with the original. I don't really remember being frustrated with anything about the gameplay.

Storywise, I think the original had a better story, or I rather I think it had a better antagonist, although he wasn't revealed until the end. IWDs main antagonists sounded childish in comparison.
