  1. there's simply more beer in brown bottles. it's particularly worse with imported or slowly selling beers, they sit on the shelf longer and have more opportunities for exposure. corona's marketing scheme is well known among the bar industry and those with similar interests (e.g. home brewers or beer-o-philes). i never said it was a conspiracy, just that the makers of corona know that their beer "skunks" quickly. it is impossible for them to guarantee a light-free existence before purchase. i would imagine that corona that is "fresh" tastes fine, but it's not my taste either way (i don't drink anything that light). i think lots of beers taste great and smell great, when fresh (particularly scottish ales which i favor). all beer tastes and smells bad when not fresh. home brewers have an even more difficult problem to overcome, btw. they typically don't filter the beer (other than with a cloth), so lots of live, but inactive, yeast remains. eventually that yeast will reactivate and referment the beer which doesn't do good things. taks
  2. photodegradation of beer. the interesting point is that the makers of corona have convinced masses of unwitting folks that putting a lime in their beer is cool, and makes for a better beer, yet in reality it is to cover up the skunky odor. hehe... taks
  3. light in general, UV is worse. here you are arguing about my personal tastes and reasons for them, reasons based on solid premises. what a maroon. i have. taks
  4. i wonder if this is a virus or a warez folder. maybe the "folder" put a back door in so people can get in and UL/DL warez files if they have the proper username/password. your friend should take himself off the 'net to see if it continues to grow. taks
  5. immaterial. stupid law or no, i agree with it. you can put a lemon in your beer all day, that doesn't mean i have to like such beers. if it was a good beer to begin with, it wouldn't need a lemon. immaterial again. beer gets out of the carton all the time and exposed to light (sunlight is worse) on a regular basis. beers in clear glass go "skunky" faster, period, whether you like it or not. taks
  6. agreed, but i grew up in st. louis. either bud or busch, and i hate busch. quite frankly, i don't drink a whole lot of beer at all anymore. taks
  7. effing close to water. buttwiper is actually brewed like a pilsner which is supposed to have a light body. pilsner urquell is the original which i can't stand, nor can i drink bud anymore. taks
  8. That's really stupid, IMO. excuse me? apparently you don't know anything about beer. 1) if it requires an additive, it is not done. additionally, look up the word reinheitsgebot. 2) if it is in a clear bottle, there is a chance that the remaining yeast can become active when exposed to sunlight rendering the beer all but undrinkable. nearly every quality beer in the world is bottled with dark glass. this is well known among any and all brewers. why corona does not do this is beyond me. yeah, something's stupid... taks
  9. any beer that requires an additive to make it taste good, e.g. lemon, is not beer IMO. any beer that comes in a clear bottle, is also not beer, IMO. taks
  10. fat tire is terrible compared to most of the beers i drink in CO. well, sam adams is winning international awards... they've got 20 some odd beers now. hehe, there's a difficult statement to back up. there are literally thousands of beers in the US, most of which don't make it out of their home state. taks
  11. ? corona is 4.6% by volume, which is standard for nearly all beers without doing something extra. even guiness is only 4% or so. taks
  12. btw, if you're in to ales, colorado is the place to be. i think only oregon has more microbrews per capita, btw. i drink scotch/scottish ales. the local version is laughing lab by bristol brewing, and odell has a really good one called 90 schilling. of course, new belgium is also in colorado, but i think their beers are way overrated. fat tire kinda sucks, in fact. taks
  13. um, most home brews actually require that you add sugar of some sort as you bottle. this sugar does not show up as sugar by the time you drink it, however, it serves as food for yeast which increases the alcohol content during the final fermentation stage. that's the only real way to get the percentage up over 3-4% as far as i know. taks
  14. this is the means by which the federal government unconstitutionally took power from the states. similar problem with the drinking age. congress couldn't pass laws that forced certain issues, so they simply extorted the states into submission by witholding funds. taks
  15. um, federalism has proven time and again to be the best... bigger gov't appeals to the poor and/or those that don't want to work as well as those foolish enough to believe the tripe of socialist mouthpieces. you are correct, society and civilizations change over time, yet somehow they have proven ridiculously incapable learning from repeated failures of systems that do not work. taks
  16. i'm guessing new story, not a continuation. mind, i haven't finished MotB yet due to unrelenting stress related to school work. taks
  17. i can't drink real sweet wines unless they fall into the sherry/cognac/brandy department (i.e. reconstituted wines). after dinner drinks with a piece of chocolate cake. taks
  18. my son, john. he'll be 5 in april. the picture was taken last spring at a local playground. we'll just say he's got me beat in the looks department hands down. taks
  19. i should add, the bacardi cokes do me no favors, and beer is actually worse. the coke is really the problem as far as i can tell (what i read says carbonated water alone is about the same acidity as coffee, and alcohol is not much different than water). taks
  20. oddly, coffee is actually less acidic than most drinks, particularly fruit-based drinks, and darker coffees are even less so (which i favor). as a result, coffee does not cause stomach problems to the same extent as citric acid, which is present in limes. anything and everything acidic is a problem, which unfortunately includes tomatoes. that means spaghetti and/or any tomato-based sauce gives me grief. the phrase "i shoulda had a v-8" means nothing but "tums to the rescue" for me. did you stir the jellybeans into a drink-like substance? under the implicit assumption that anyone ever takes me seriously anyway. friday at about 2 am mountain time is when you need to turn on the extra "ignore taks" hat, btw. that's about when i get home from the bar. taks
  21. i post drunk regularly on fridays... well, assuming i'm capable at that point. my last drink, still in my hand, was a cup of coffee i heated up a minute ago. the other guys in the office brewed up a pot this morning assuming i'd be in, but i had to stay home with a sick child till my wife put in some early time at her office. i didn't get here till 1:00 or so, which means reheating the remaining coffee. tastes like s***. i'll brew another pot shortly. typically 8-10 cups a day is my current habit. i drink it till i get the shakes. friday is pool night so i'm doing the bacardi-coke like it was water (no lime anymore, bad on the stomach). that i can actually muster any game at all is amazing, but i do manage. taks
  22. btw, to label rp "conservative" because of his support of legislation that negates roe v. wade or embryo matters is a bit disingenuous. he does so certainly because he is pro-life, but also because he thinks those are state issues, not federal issues. the constitution does not explicitly empower the federal government to legislate these things (though it can be argued there is implicit power to do so), and his position is that they should be left to the states. taks
  23. yes, i remember ross, and no, not really. uh, if you look at his stance he's actually a hardcore libertarian. more to the point, he's a strict constructionist, almost an absolutist when it comes to the constitution and capitalism. keep in mind, the only time since we were taken off the gold standard that the fed did not follow it was during recessions. whether that was a cause or an effect is probably impossible to discern, however. taks
  24. yeah, but brad renfro was really an afterthought in hollywood after the client. not sure he counts as "famous" for the threes theory to hold. my money is on brittney. taks
  25. oops, he'll be 73 this year... taks
