  1. it took me a bit to get witcher going. i failed to realize that i had turned of direct3d in order to get BG to work properly. soooo, i got that "you don't meet the minimum requirements" thingy a few times and was getting steamed... then i said "i'll pull up dxdiag and prove i meet the requirements!" hehe. anyway, the intro movies are cool. unfortunately, i've had two crashes that pop up the dreaded windows "windows has encountered a problem" yadda yadda wanting me to send some information to them. not a chance on that, but i think it is running now. about to test it out. taks
  2. that would be Darth Taks, not taks. you must not have been around during the early days of kotor? everyone was Darth Somethingorother. not sure what your issue is there, nick. i'm wound pretty tight in here so referring to me as "laid back," even when i do it, is somewhat sarcastic, hehe. oh, new sig is coming. i've got a few of those "irony" type posts i'm pondering. either that or a futurama quote. taks
  3. yeah, right... i think i've also pointed out that there ain't a soul in here that could ever see it. not without some sort of special glasses or something. taks
  4. nope, can't do it. that would be antithetical to my general MO: i don't care. that's what i mean about being very laid back in many aspects of my life, yet here i am suffering from anxiety and panic attacks. oy vey. my son is getting used for his cuteness factor. he is aware of his cuteness, and is opposed to us pointing that out. "i'm not cute, i'm john!" poor little guy. unfortunately for him, i have the power of extortion to hold over his head: he loves the PS3. thus, that poor little guy must simple accept the fact that i will continue to use his likeness to enhance my "good with kids" image, true or not. taks
  5. yeah, he's got a certain... illogic about him that everyone notices. i won't cave, rosbjerg. never. taks has been my nick name since i was 15 or so... 25 years now. not many people call me that anymore, however. i do need to change my avatar. my son is getting bigger. taks
  6. i would prefer "indigestion" over "functional dyspepsia" any day. really. taks
  7. DRM? you can close this, hehe. taks
  8. i must be the only person in here without an alt. i should just quit trying to figure it all out. taks
  9. texas is the darkhorse this year. they could easily surprise anyone, and being ranked 5th is some definite street cred towards that notion. my one buddy is a texas fan, and the other is an oklahoma alumni. both of them went to the shootout denver-san diego NFL game with me. i think we'll have to get together for the red river shootout as well. not surprisingly, btw, mcdaniel, bradford and mccoy are three of the best (if not the best three in that order) QBs in college ball this year. taks
  10. not like crystal meth does at least. taks
  11. i just bought, and downloaded, the new witcher. haven't checked to see if all went well, however. it's over 10 GB (counting the extra content) and i only had about 500-600 kB/s transfer (yeah, 6 Mbit link ain't too shabby, but it's not fios, either), which worked out to 8 or 9 hours of transfer time required. anyway, i got to the melissan battle with my solo thief in my latest BG2 romp and pretty much gave up. the point was to get there. did that, now i'm done. the fight is amazingly difficult even when you can stack yourself with all the best equipment. i even cheated in the big metal unit and that was worse than dual wielding crom faeyr and that +3 ninja-to that gives you an extra attack. the AC improvement was only -2 (my dude had high stats from the roll, plus all the tomes possible and all the bonuses from lum's machine, so he was pretty uber by 50th level). taks
  12. you're assuming missouri has learned something... no, i think their schedule is just a bit softer. OU will likely crush them again in the Big 12 championship. it is early, still, so really hard to say. missouri's fumble problem 2 weeks ago didn't escape my notice, btw. anyway, i was right about GA and FL, wrong about USC. who knew, eh? let conference play being i say! missouri has a skeleton in the closet they need to shed in norman. given the routing they put on 'em last year, however, i don't see it being much of a problem. my buddy is a texas fan, and he's down in galveston helping his family clean up right now. i'm guessing he's watching the game against the buffaloes from there if they have electricity (his dad lives on the other side of the seawall). taks
  13. i can sympathize with stress induces gut problems. ooof. i slept in today. of course, it was my own fault for staying up late, but hey, i needed a lazy day. i'm now reading the ballot information booklet CO sent to me. taks
  14. which would be hades (and all variants), visceris, etc., etc., currently killian. taks
  15. go back and read his posts... he grew down, IMO. taks
  16. i would love to say i miss gfted1's sloganizer, but i can't, because my damned mouse seems to want me to click on it every time he posts. grrr. taks

well, these are all licensed positions... it's not like they're doing this in the dark. nurse practitioners, registered nurses and physician's assistants are all well trained in their specific areas (RNs tend to be generalists). they are prescribing under the supervision of a board certified doctor as well (an MD, for example). taks

  20. uh, sounds to me like she got forced to move because she almost started a riot on school grounds. protests are generally frowned upon at public schools... taks

i would hope that if i need an antibiotic i wouldn't have to go to a psychiatrist. assuming you meant "for mental health related drugs," yes, MDs can prescribe as well as RNs and PAs. i'm not sure if a PA can subscribe outside of his/her profession, however, but i guess that would be hard to gauge. taks
  22. what, do you mean that you don't do this??? taks

oh, i should add, i DO have a friend that IS a pharmacy rep for glaxo, down in dallas. his recommendation: don't take your primary care's advice w.r.t. anti-depressants, go to a psychiatrist. they've got more experience dealing with not only the drugs and their side effects, but everything else related to such things. unfortunately, that might cause some problems with the... investigation that is being conducted on me at the moment. taks
  24. which has always been a big issue for me w.r.t. education in the US. i've had some really, really bad teachers in the past. heck, my 6th grade reading teach was dyslexic. um... hellooooooo! fortunately, i've also had some really, really good teachers, and so far, john (my son) is off to a good start with his kindergarten teacher (mrs. biondo said this, mrs. biondo said that... he's always rambling something about her). taks ps: my uncle was an english teacher for 40 years and he hates the union, too. he taught in a backwater town in missouri, however, and actually got along with his administration as far as i could tell... had to, the town was so small that disagreements were always public and getting anybody to teach was difficult, let alone good teachers.

that's what i mean by "gold standard," and also what the article meant. they (benzodiazapines in general, alprazolam in particular) put the smack down on anxiety, particularly panic attacks. they work immediately, too, which SSRIs cannot claim. it took nearly 12 weeks before i could say that sertraline was as effective as alprazolam. depends upon who you are and what your issues are, really. my doc doesn't seem to think i need CBT.
