between this and all the dinosaur revelations over the past couple decades, i feel cheated. now all we need is for newton and einstein to be refuted somehow. taks

Hindsight is always 20/20, isn't it? Since nobody could have known a-priori that a Beethoven would be born, advising otherwise would be foolish. Making such decisions without knowledge of the outcome requires that you choose based on the most probable outcome. Beethoven was not the most probable outcome. Based on the historical record (not the bible) of who Noah was, and where he lived, it is likely it was built by a community that relied heavily on shipping, so no, it probably wasn't built by amatuers. Neverwinter Nights: Darkness over Daggerford

yeah, none of the areas are really all that large except the town, which isn't big so much as it has a bunch of activities going on (there are people strolling around and such). taks -

same here, and i'm using a 7200 rmp sata with a dedicated scsi controller (only the primary drive uses it). the game stutters a bit, too. mark -
oddly, the movie twins was on last night. either deja vu, or they showed it because of his death, or just a kwinkydink. taks

Neverwinter Nights: Darkness over Daggerford
taks replied to jaguars4ever's topic in Computer and Console
keep in mind, i'm not laying down a "don't play this crap" mandate... this effort was done by a relatively small group of people and they did do a fine job (so far) with the story... it just needs work. mostly scripting errors (it would be hard to have an engine error anymore). i will continue it when they fix them (i don't want to finish the story while trying to battle errors) taks -
Neverwinter Nights: Darkness over Daggerford

two points: 1) i never commented on bg bugs 2) the big difference there is that bg certainly had plenty of bugs, but it also had, if you played it right, a hundred or more hours of play time. this game is supposedly only 20-30 hours and i've only been in it about 4 and every quest i've touched (almost) has had issues of some sort or another. professional doesn't mean bug-free. taks -

back on topic... if that is possible: this mod is pretty bugged. it may have the "professional" feel to it, but certainly not the professional level of good QA that results. in one side quest, you'll inevitably lose your only tank henchman and you have to run a script to get her back. some other quests never give you a resolution, i.e. the dialog tree with the quest giver never acknowledges completion. there's one that i've seen that does not allow you to do what you say you're going to do (pick up a chest). another results in your contact mysteriously disappearing though the quest is put into the finished tab. hopefully ossian studios will get the bugs worked out in coming releases. it does seem BGish with numerous little side-quests popping up here and there. the quests are not really "fedex," so much as running back and forth, in the beggining, to research the problem du jour. all in all, it seems like a fun mod that just needs a lot of work. as with what seems like every story these days, you're fate is written in the stars in a manner of speaking. however, your inclusion into the grand scheme is NOT because you were fated to be a part of it all, it is because your long-time friend was mistakenly taken captive (instead of the grand scheme person, who has similar looks) and you got shoved into the fray simply because you want to save her. sort of a back door into fate i guess. taks -
well, all problems have been solved. i am officially a home-linux user now. i still prefer the display in windows mode, however. for some reason, in linux mode the fonts are semi-sort of screwed up. and yes, i have DL'd the actual Nvidia drivers. the graphics otherwise look fine... now we just need some games in this world and i'll dump the winders OS. taks

oooh... bad timing for me though. i'm in the throes of picking a dissertation topic and another game to play is NOT what i need right now. so far, i've found about 2 or 3 fanmade mods that were worthwhile, though they all lack the polish of a real AAA game. definitely more fun than the OC, however. the latest i've played was a ravenloft mod. actually, i'm not sure if i ever finished it or not... hmmm. taks -
it's even worse if you have an aversion to anything but solid wood. years ago, that's all you could get (well, other than metal furniture). but now, solids are a premium. i've spent more money on furniture in the last 6 years than i have on nearly everything else (except cars and houses). oh, and pool tables qualify as furniture. worse in some cases. ugh. taks

based on my experience with security and the government, there is no rule that prohibits past use of just about any drug. as long as a) it was casual, b) it no longer continues, c) you weren't dealing and d) you admit it openly. for the most part they are concerned about addiction/dealing and hiding facts, which can be used by foreign nationals/enemies to compromise your position. taks

yeah, but most of the people i knew that did drugs, and moved into harder stuff, were willing to try even before the started on pot. that it was illegal was not even a consideration to any of us for that matter. taks

it does not deal well with a 2nd hard drive if the MBR is on the first. i think this is primarily due to SATA, btw. x86-64. i have an AMD64 3200+ (getting an X2 soon, probably 4800+). i have FC4 on my office box, but it is a 32-bit version. 64-bit seems to be working fine at home though i'm not done setting it up. i'll finish the nvidia stuff and work on some other driver issues tonight (sound card, etc.). i installed everything plus the yum updates so i'm into an 8-10 GB mess, btw. fortunately, i've learned quite a bit here at work, so i'm not too bad rooting around in the mess. i think i'm going to start doing my remaining school work in C, so this will be a great platform for development (the primary reason i went to linux is for the 64-bit matlab support, but C is faster, so why not use both!) taks

i'm thinking i must be a regular 6800 upgrading to a GT... i'm not OC'd, btw. too risky i think. taks

woohoo!!! i got my new hdd and the promise controller recognizes it (i'd put it on the via controller, but the second channel is whacked). then i installed fedora core 5 without a hitch! yay! then i booted and... no linux. ugh. turns out there is an installer bug with grub (the linux bootloader). i was up till 4 a.m. getting the danged thing configured properly to insert itself into the master boot record on /dev/sda (the master drive on the via controller). anyway, i got that working (if anyone needs help with this, send me a PM), and the next task was to upgrade to nvidia drivers. oh boy, another rats nest of crap to do. after updating the linux stuff, i'll next need to boot into a command shell (init 3), and then install the drivers, and then try booting back into an x server (init 5). if it does not hang, then i can configure to always boot into my gnome shell (which is init 5). maybe, just maybe it'll all work tonight... taks

yeah, drinking was attached to my pool hobby. we were a drinking team with a pool problem. taks

a friend and i were discussing this idea the other day. i think it is a gateway simply because the dealers tend to be more hardcore, i.e. involved in other drugs as well, than the average user, and making such purchases exposes the user to the dealer's other habits. so, the drug itself is not the gateway, but the means to obtaining the drug sort of is. people that aren't going to step up won't regardless of what they are exposed to. people that will step up will find a way. taks

bummer... why so late? last year, we had powder on every trip PRIOR to january... in fact, all the northern slopes were 100% open with a 4' base by the 2nd weekend in december and breck/copper were actually 100% the weekend after thanksgiving. taks

offhand, i'm not sure as i did not purchase it through newegg, i.e. i don't have the order history handy. i'll check. i agree, however, it is screwy. i turned on a total of 4 units, though i do not recall which. taks

and if the current trend in moisture in colorado is any indication, you, like me, are only two months away from more slope action! i think i'm doing a copper pass this year so i'll actually be without the powdery stuff till mid-november (a-basin and loveland have been opening in october, however). we got an inch of rain at 11-mile canyon saturday (actually, a bit over an inch). soaked is an understatement. we kept the fire going, however, so we still got to cook over it. taks
