Digital Cameras
oh, by "favor the sony dsc-h2" i mean given the value range of the camera, i.e 6 mp, $200-$400, etc. obviously true slr 6 mp cameras are preferred. they're just too expensive (then you look at nikon). taks

Digital Cameras
i've done quite a bit of research on cameras recently and most of the pseudo-professional review sites tend to favor the sony dsc-h2. it's about $300 in the states. 6 mp, super-zoom (i.e. 10x optical zoom, maybe 12x) with stabilization. it's also got an slr-style body. i intend to buy either that, or the dsc-h5 for xmas. taks

California sues car companies over global warming
false premise. you assume something that is not true. we don't think we can do what we want without consequence. we think we don't know what our impact nor the consequences are. we would like to know what the impact of what we do is before rushing to conclusions about the potential consequences. oh, and btw, climate change is not equal to global warming. the climate always changes. taks

California sues car companies over global warming
i believe we are on cycle 22, which has been a rather intense one. cycle 23 or 24 is supposed to be very weak. could be 20 years or more before the true drop occurs. oh, and any stastical claims such as "1% chance the climate change is due to natural phenomena" are bogus. it is impossible to determine without fully understanding all of the drivers over the course of history. we have 400 years of records in england, but not all of the world, and that is only one 10 millionth of the earth's history. taks

over a foot in the mountains and more on the way... an early season indeed. must be global warming. check out the mountain cams at www.breckenridge.com... yay. woohoo!!! of course, i'm stuck in new hampster (near nashua) till tuesday morning so i can't drive up to see the fluffy white stuff yet. worked 150 hours in the past two weeks (still working, prolly 15+ the next 3 days). beat like a dead dog. taks

What's up, 911?
radar is much easier, and less costly, to design. it's sort of like cryptology. it is very difficult to create an unbreakable cipher. well, not just difficult, proven impossible. the counter statement can be inferred from that. taks

Impeach Bush?
you're right, hades should just argue with someone, even if he agrees, because you think it is better to argue than to actually reach a common ground. taks

Impeach Bush?
no problem. part of my point is that you indict bush and/or republicans in nearly ever statement above, yet give a pass to democrats aka liberals. in truth, the fault lies with politicians, republicans and democrats alike across the globe, for allowing such things. in the end, therefore, the fault lies with the people for allowing their governments to have this much power. i'm still a small government kind of guy, remember. these things don't happen when government does not have the power to hide behind secrecy. taks

Impeach Bush?
my point was not that it was a good thing, and nowhere have i ever said it was. shame on you for putting words into what i said. my point was that you, and all your bush-hating friends, act as if we never knew this type of thing was going on, and yet now, suddenly, it's such a bad thing. the only difference now is that it is not something we suspect, it is something we know. this makes you a bit of a hypocrite. taks

Impeach Bush?
ya'll act as if these things have taken place only under bush. sorry to say, tis not true. i know everyone is still dejected that both gore and kerry lost to bush, but in the end, things that are going on behind the scenes, would have been there anyway. taks

Manson Follower Van Houten Denied Parole
you mean scott peterson? none. first, acquittal in US court does not mean innocent. the way slander/libel laws work in the US, the onus is on the defendant to prove allegations untrue, as well as prove actual damages, a feat that would have been difficult. he'd have to prove that the movie actually stated he was guilty, not just implied. taks

Manson Follower Van Houten Denied Parole
while i agree with most of your rant, kalmeeri, i don't think anyone is claiming manson didn't get a fair trial. i believe those references were to scott peterson, whom i think also got a fair trial, along with a hired gun that STILL couldn't get him off. taks

Intel Kentsfield (Quad Core) Benchmarks
oh, btw, i should note that parallel processing actually works out to a logarithmic increase in speed, btw. i.e. 2 processors perform as well as a sqrt(2) faster single processor, four are twice as fast. this is not a rule, and not exact, but more of something i've seen with my own work. the inefficiency is due to many things, but primarily (in no specific order): memory conflicts (they all share the same memory), I/O bandwidth (I/O is fast enough to feed one processor, but 4 quickly limits the amount of data each processor gets) and dependent operations. the latter is hit or miss, since some threads are easy to separate without any dependencies, but not all fall into this category. taks

Intel Kentsfield (Quad Core) Benchmarks
multi-threading in that light is good if you are a multi-tasker, but most gamers are concentrating on their games. as noted above, true threading barely exists outside of the professional realm (big time in defense, btw). what we need is threading within a process. we've talked about it before, and it is something we will see in our lifetimes, but not yet. my guess is that a core-duo, or two core-duos tied together, will perform nearly identically as a single core of a core-duo running a single app. there will be minor differences since housekeeping tasks the OS regularly runs can be offloaded to another processor, but that does not amount to much. taks

Hey taks, aren't you good at physics? Maybe Meta?
yeah, the actual derivations for the equations (using calculus, derivatives) are college level, but high-school physics does spend a lot of time on the actual equations. my high-school physics class was a blast. the teacher was one i'll never forget... taks
