  1. XP was really strange in this respect. it shipped without a lot of key drivers, RAID in particular. all the help sites would say "simply put in a floppy that has your driver" and sure enough, that's what XP wanted you to do. that i did not have a working floppy, nor did i intend to put one in, was inconsequential. arg did it take a while on that one. i've heard the same problem exists with the ethernet drivers, though fortunately, i always keep my board CDs so i haven't run into such a position (besides, LAN is not required during winders install, so you can use a CD after it is installed rather than a floppy during the install). taks
  2. my son is playing super mario 64 on the DS. he now apparently gets fed up with mommy when he lets her play his game. she ultimately kills off his lives and he makes comments like "that's the point i was trying to make, you don't know how to do it momma!" john is 4. i'm in trouble. i got a little ticked at NWN2 a week or so ago. it was one of those save deals where you're in act II, do a bunch of castle building, then head over to the haven. well, in spite of leaving the castle several times, including leaving the region itself, then getting all the way to the haven and subsequently getting my butt kicked by the lone warrior battle (not him, his cohorts), never did the game save itself. i have to do all the castle building again, and work my way through all the haven fights again, grrr... i may get back to it this weekend. taks
  3. yeah. maybe you're trying to save some poor lass that is destined to be one of the bhaalspawn mothers, eh? taks
  4. the impression i got was "night-time," which implies waiting around, or resting, which was another feature (pass time while awake) they've added. taks
  5. the guy that wrote this never played PnP D&D. treants, not tree ents. taks
  6. i'm thinking BG3 is at the top of my list, or really, a captivating story in and around the sword coast. since the story in 1 and 2 are over and done with, i'd really only require a weak link at best... maybe new problems in BG, with enhanced graphics for the city, or even a prequel would be cool. i'd say IWD3, but really i'd mean "another dungeon romp through cool areas such as in icewind dale." really, 1 and 2 weren't connected so 3 wouldn't even need to have the same name to interest me. bard's tale 4 would be cool, too. that other game, can't recall what it was, recently released by an indie group was interesting, but not enough for me to pay for it. too many problems and the old-skool perspective window isn't really any fun anymore. believe it or not, TOEE2, or return to TOEE (the 3/3.5E version i suppose). at least, that engine, TB combat, but with an actual story (the whole "faithful to the module" concept was a joke - somebody didn't go to DM school before coming up with that idea)... taks
  7. well, of course, the problem with this is that all the subsequent rains will turn the dead into zombies and there will be hell to pay in the aftermath. a big fence, IMO, and let them each each other till there are no more worries. taks
  8. this is actually the biggest problem with mines. when you dig into the ground and create a chat pile, all the stuff that was normally held in the rock is now exposed with greatly increased surface area. all these chemicals leech out into the surrounding water/land causing significant problems. when they are still covered, i.e. before being dug up, the chemicals are there, but leech out at a rate that is slow enough to not be an issue. amazing stuff. taks
  9. sand thinks freedom of religion implies freedom from religion. taks
  10. btw, not surprisingly, greenspan's comments were taken out of context by the media. here's a link to some of his quotes. taks
  11. actually, if you recall bush's original speech on why we should invade iraq, WMDs were mentioned only sparingly (maybe even once, i can't recall the exact transcript). there were something like 17 total reasons, WMDs were one of 'em, and only mentioned in passing. the media jumped all over that point, and it became the sticking point, i.e, the media created the "WMDs are the primary reason" hype, and not surprisingly, that's what the bush PR machine chose to follow up on since it seemingly had the highest chance of getting everyone on board. he has become a victim of his own PR. everyone forgets that saddam violated almost every clause of his surrender treaty, signed after the first invasion. taks
  12. i'm guessing the "davey crockett" is no longer in production... taks
  13. spreading radiation and splitting an atom to create fission are two different things. that's why they have the MoaB, to fill the 10-20 ton range. taks
  14. 44 tons is hardly equivalent to a nuclear bomb, though i'm sure they could expand it. but it takes 2 orders of magnitude to get to the "small" nuclear bombs which are measured in terms of kilo-tons. taks
  15. weidu simply ran out of time on IWG. i guess he graduated and got a job and, well, ya gotta do what ya gotta do and if that means dropping inconsequential hobbies, that's what ya do. i just finished another round o' BG1 - yet again - MC, and my trusty band of adventurers will soon embark on yet another modded BG2 path. taks
  16. put it that way, and it sounds like you're eating a pot head. taks
  17. nope. you should up it to hardcore... there are other things it effects, too. the game is much too easy on the default. there are maybe 2 or 3 fights that are hard otherwise, that i can recall. taks
  18. are you playing hardcore rules? if not, the game becomes much more difficult when you can be damaged by your own spells. taks
  19. i think he was being facetious, MC. last time i checked, kaftan wasn't american, either... taks
  20. yeah, but those examples were supposed to be hard fights, all of which had non-fight options, too. well, where the staff of the magi was located wasn't an optional fight if you managed to get in there (well, i never chose the "sorry, but i entered the wrong room" option, so i don't know if it is escapable or not). personally, i found BG1 harder but mostly because that was my first game of the sort since the gold box games a decade earlier. i never found those games difficult, btw. IMO, most of the difficulty with NWN2, assuming hardcore rules, is the somewhat clunky AI and controls. originally, you couldn't click on a character and take control, which i found myself attempting all the time (you can now) because of so much BG play (partially my fault for not getting used to the new method). you can now, of course, with the latest patch, but i find i keep accidentally switching from one player to the next attempting to direct a certain character to some location... grrr. the fact that the currently selected "target" (top center icon) gets spell effects also creates a few headaches. i suppose, really, what makes it difficult for me is that i got so used to simply scripted AI in the IE games, in which players never really follow any one character, that i'm having a hard time adjusting. taks
  21. the difficult in this w.r.t. NWN2 is that often, if you click on one character to issue an order, the others may suddenly drop what they're doing and run to the selected character. they instinctively obey the last broad command, which defaults to "Follow Me." even with the latest beta patch, i'm still seeing this behavior and it is annoying. the solution is puppet mode, but then the NPCs seem unwilling to do _anything_, even respond to attacks on themselves. puppet mode was definitely a requirement in duskwood, else sand would have spent the lot of his spells by the time we reached the cave at the top of the hill (did that last night). taks
  22. well i'll be damned... learn something new everyday. only 5.5% are the EU and US... taks
  23. exactly whom do you think the UN peacekeeping troops are composed of? taks
  24. never played a character with wilderness lore, mostly because rangers and druids kinda suck IMO. fell wood is a pain without it. taks
  25. a sack of kittens possessed by demons... plenty of good points, but the bad points were pretty bad. repetitive loot (monty haul, but always the same shtuff), over-powered (nay, cheating) enemies, the fell wood - needs no other comments - and a few other reasons i cannot recall. i'd go with a 7/10, however, as IWD1 was much better. taks
