Awesome/interesting games no one has heard of
Purkake replied to Purkake's topic in Computer and Console
Yup, those damn flying scissors were really annoying. -
Maybe they should change to trench coats, Matrix style.
-
And what are we arguing about then? I don't think anyone here would judge the game differently from any other game.

It's the same game. I don't know why they changed the name. I know it as Supaplex. -
I guess the answer is probably something like crafting in ToEE, you could make your own Pants of Vecna. Most cRPGs seem to prefer the classic cliches.

There is nothing stopping the random hack and slash game from being as good or better than Diablo 3, I just don't expect it to be based on the developers previous work. Just like you don't expect a random dude on the street to be as good a writer than someone who is a critically acclaimed writer with multiple books on his resume. We live in the real world where expectations are based on previous experiences not on someone's grand vision. Don't make AoD the exception here. I don't expect much from it because I'm not keeping up with all the news and interviews, to me Iron Tower is an unknown indie developer. That doesn't mean I won't give it a chance, but don't expect me to get hyped up about a (from my perspective) total wildcard.

if vinnie charges $10, am doubting you see any complaints. sure, the graphics will still be fugly and the writing will be pedestrian, but what do you expect for $10, right? 'course, this is far different reasoning than we see 'bove, no? reduced price makes acceptable that graphics is fugly and writing is pedestrian. from such a perspective it ain't lack o' developer resources that makes okie dokie, but the pricing. HA! Good Fun! For $10 people other than the hardcore fans, who would buy it anyway, would be willing to try something that is different from most stuff on the market now. Lack of developer resources makes the game cheap. If you want to sell a game built on a small budget, you ask less money for it. Just like fast food is cheap and eating in a restaurant is expensive. EDIT: I'm not comparing fast food with AoD, it's just cheaper to make and thus costs less.

Women today use high heels, and I really doubt they use them because they are comfortable They would have used them in medieval Europe with magic as well, but the heels would always get stuck in the mud/grass/crap.

Heh But what's wrong with wearing a robe? If I were a wizard, I'd wear it for the classic look. You don't have to have a crazy robe that goes all the way to the ground. What do you want your wizard to wear?

I'm still totally confused. What's wrong with holding different games up to different standards? I expect Diablo 3 to be super special awesome, but I don't expect a random hack and slash RPG from some unknown developer to be anywhere near as good. You can see that the graphics on AoD are functional and there to show you where you character is, not really to offer you an immersive experience. You get that from the text descriptions etc. With a game like Half-Life I expect the graphics to be good enough to immerse me in the game. EDIT: If they will actually expect to sell AoD for $50 they are out of their frelling minds.
-
The other (classical) options seem to be full plate armor or a skimpy proto-bikini. Usually by the end of the game the Wizard has enough magical buffs to go around naked if they wanted, the robes are for style.
-
I'm confused. I don't hold World of Goo and Half-Life 2 to the same standards, because one is a $10 game and the other is a $50 full-price game. Just as I don't expect a crappy cheap car to be as fast or pretty as a new expensive car, I do however expect both of them to work.
-
Why would someone hold World of Goo up to the same standards as Half-Life 2? That's ridiculous, you expect both of them to work and be fun, but that's about it.
-
Portal 2 is pretty much confirmed and probably some non L4D multiplayer game. Maybe Counter-Strike 2?
-
The trick is to not expect either of them to pay anything and be glad for whatever either of them donates.
-
If you want to get some sweet Half-Life action try HL2. It's a fun shooter with pretty good pacing and a lot of variety, once you get the gravity gun, it's even more fun. As for the motion sickness, HL2 is certainly better than Portal, but it's still a FPS. I'd try to turn off motion blur and head bobbing and generally take it easy when playing. Someone who actually gets motion sickness might be more help to you, though. The KotOR II restoration mod is the Duke Nukem Forever of mods. I think Valve is helping the Black Mesa guys out and might even buy them out and release Black Mesa with the next *color* Box from what I've heard(it might be just rumors, though).
-
Wait for Black Mesa if you want a decent HL remake. Who doesn't have all the games anyway? If you haven't played them by now you must obviously hate Valve or FPSes.

Put that sucker through google translate and voila, somewhat understandable English. He looks like a half-motivated foot-soldier put into a mage robe. He looks like he doesn't really want to be a Mage, but just went with it. I just love the look on his face, "maybe if I throw a fireball there, I can go and have some nice warm coffee". Also reminds me of this PA strip:

So the beta is tomorrow? Time? Place?

I didn't know they made a Farscape shooter I take it you meant Farcry. That's what I get for watching Farscape and it sounding like Farcry...
-
They built up quite a bit of cred with the earlier Doom games and Quake. Doom 3 suffered from being delayed a lot IIRC and from being a corridor shooter in the age of open world shooters like Farcry and Valve's innovations with HL2. The gameplay was just antiquated for it's time. To be fair, they did a bunch of cool things like having real video play on in-game monitors and being able to click on animated digital panels. Also, Carmack is still pretty much a programming genius. The story didn't really evolve much from Doom's "there are aliens on Mars, go kill them" either.
-
No it was an uninspired can't-see-crap monster closet fest. Seriously, it's the darkest(in terms of brightness) game I have ever played. Check out some youtube gameplay videos if you're interested.

Awesome/interesting games no one has heard of

So, I dug a little deeper and found some more awesome games: Supaplex - Kind of a puzzle game where you control a pac-man-esque thing that collects stuff and avoids enemies and falling boulders. It doesn't sound like much, but it's awesome, it's got a ton of levels and free. Chip's Challenge - A bit like Supaplex, it's also a puzzle game, but the levels are more varied. I'm sure a lot of people have played it, since it came with a version of Windows, but it's still fun. I'm sure you can find it somewhere on the internet. Jetpack - Another classic DOS game gone freeware. Basically you fly around the level, avoid enemies and collect stuff. The levels are pretty clever and varied. Also comes with a level editor. -
Yeah, I can see it being a prettier, more polished version of Hellgate without any subscription crap. Also there are vehicles.
-
There will be dialogue, it will probably just be cutscenes or something and their quality is still up in the air.
