  1. I wasn't trying to criticize your points, it was a more general off-topic rambling. I guess maybe you could get a bunch of writers together and tell them to write about their day and then have a pretty equal ground to judge the actual writing.
  2. Winds of Winter is going to be a mess unless he manages to clump all the characters into 4-6 groups or just ignore half of them. That or a major culling of the main cast... Speaking of series with a billion characters, I'm always amazed at how Peter F Hamilton manages to have seven or eight totally unrelated plot threads that come together seamlessly in the end.
  3. A pro tip for you: I speak directly and plainly. I don't need nor want subtlety. Obsidian ignored fans during the development of this game and it hurt them. It isn't really up for debate that this game was not well received. People might argue that they like it or not and personally I think its OK. But OK games are not worth my money or time. Some of the decisions made by the developers of this game are so WTF? inducing that I can scarcely believe they actually went through to final release. My heart bleeds for you, but even speaking directly and plainly gets a bit old if you're saying the same thing over and over. And that is not a tip, it's a statement.
  4. I think it's cute that we have fostered a new handful of haters. The AP ones are pretty much gone, I think we barely got any new permanent members from there. A pro tip for you: try more subtlety
  5. Yes they get direction to make their games more "accessible" from the Doctor's/EA, but each team is headed up by a separate individual which guides and directs the team on their project. That sounds suspiciously like every other project... ever.
  6. I think you broke my sarcasm meter. I demand you buy me a new one. Take it up with the manufacturer. There's nothing wrong with Space Siege and it's practically begging for the Obsidian touch. You have the choice to add cyborg bits to yourself, but there are no consequences. Obsidian is probably itching to try something new with a more open sci-fi IP than Star Wars. It's essentially free money.
  7. With or without the accent? How else would we know the protagonist is Russian?
  8. Knock yourself out. Just flipping through this thread is like walk down the memory lane.
  9. It's summer and you probably have too much free time, so this thread shall haunt the front page once more.
  10. I guess it's time to exercise my superior thread necromancy once more and rise the "awesome games that no one has ever heard of" thread once more from it's cold grave.
  11. I think the main game was, but not the juicy expansion that adds a new faction and campaign. In related news, I missed the Septerra Core sale, that was always a fun game.
  12. Takes one to know one...
  13. Just a heads up, GOG is having their overly long summer sale and today Ground Control(and it's impossible to find expansion) are 60% off. I don't know how many of you have already played it, but I really like its focus on small heavily customizable squads and tactical real-time gameplay. And yes, I do realize that this sounded like a marketing blurb from the back of the box.
  14. How does that judgement work anyway? Do remove all of the content from the equation? How? If not, won't that affect the "pure" writing based on your biases?
  15. Agreed No surprise there.
  16. Maybe the problem is that Bioware is trying to do too much here. Divorce the team-based cover shooty bit from the dialog and romance bits, put each in a different box and you could be making twice as much money.
  17. Being able to distinguish between personal likes/dislikes and objective judgements seems to be a gift given to very few.
  18. There's some cool stuff coming up, but this really is AFFC part 2 and not the next book that many people were probably hoping for.
  19. I'd rather see a Space Siege 2, myself.
  20. Can't we just accept that today's Bioware games are the gaming equivalent of romance novels, complete with random retcons and plot holes?
  21. Speaking of George R. R. Martin books, Dance With Dragons is pretty cool, but it's spinning its wheels in places as well. Hopefully the next one won't take 6 years.
  22. Bourgeois literary criticism, oppression of the proletariat, perpetuation, oppression, class war, capitalist exploitation of the working left sock, &c. Yes, if they stopped telling us what's a classic and what isn't they might as well give up and go back to crying in the shower about getting a liberal arts degree
  23. I remember it being the worst optimized game I had played at the time. Also something about an awesome expansion pack that overshadowed the original game in every way...
  24. Nothing like playing a Jungian psychologist in a Call of Cthulhu game
  25. Read Vile Bodies instead? Does it have flappers? My dear, what a too, too laugh-making question. Or to put it another way, most definitely. Sold! I was pretty shocked by the Fitzgerald hate. I was also shocked that Tolkien was called a bad writer. I can understand being bored by a great writer's choice in subject matter, that is all about personal taste, but there are reasons these folks are legends of literature. It's just all those literary critics trying to maintain their status quo. You know, to subjugate the little people and stuff.
