  1. This also raises another point, the role of Publishers. I have always maintained that Publishers aren't all bad and in many respects add value and do understand the business aspect of gaming development. So some of the challenges we now see on certain KS projects is due to the developers not having the guiding influence of a Publisher
  2. I have an extra copy of Left 4 Dead 1 for whoever wants it
  3. Yes its always good to keep your driver updated. There is a school of thought that believes "if its not broken don't fix it " but I keep all my drivers on my gaming PC updated
  4. I was about to post the same link I find this article interesting and relevant. Its disingenuous that developers don't keep to release dates or don't inform fans who funded the games
  5. I played many excellent games this year, like Alpha Protocol, but they weren't released in 2012. So my list is Risen 2 : I love RPG, what can I say. Max Payne 3: It was an enjoyable shooter Legend of Grimrock :Old school RPG
  6. Nooooooooooooo, now we aren't on the same side anymore. That makes me sad Come join the "removing cinematics isn't a big deal" army and we can be good friends again
  7. Thats not why I commented, your post is pertient to the discussion I am having on this thread.
  8. Because not all gamers have the same interests as Morgoth. Seriously, it's an absurd statement and your defense of it is equally absurd. Someone bought it because they'd rather play it first hand than watch a Youtube video of it. If they wanted to just watch the content, they would have. Cool story bro. ME3 + DLC is still a waste of time. Morgoth I can't agree with the statement that ME3 is a waste of time. It was entertaining, it wasn't fantastic. But to say the game is not worth playing is a bit harsh
  9. So that's 12 cinematics from the original BG that they've removed and will not replace with something new. Well then this reiterates for me that the number of movies removed isn't really a big deal? Thanks for the post
  10. You put a LOT of effort into it, so it's natural to be dissappointed when your work doesn't get the deserved recognition. Nobody will care about the grade once you get your first job though. And professors are just human beings. That means they are petty, vindictive sods like everybody else. And quite a few of them are only lording it over students because university was the only place that would accept them. Hi Nep I can only say I am sorry about your grade. It must be disappointing when you feel you put effort in and it doesn't seem to have been recognized
  11. No clue whatsoever. At best I could ask a friend that works for them though. If you could ask and get an answer that would be really interesting Yes this is my view. I don't see this detracting from the gaming experience. You seem to be avoiding my question. This is the third time I'll ask it. Imagine a developer saying they are going to enhance all the cinematics in BG2 and even stating this on their website, then having nearly every cutscene and movie taken out of BG2, despite relabelling the game 'Baldurs Gate 2 Enhanced Edition'. You seem to be okay with this? You're okay with most of the cinematics and movies taken out of BG2 even though the game is being marketed as the 'enhanced edition' with upgraded graphics and cinematics? If Overhaul are having problems enhancing and finishing BG1 on time (even with one delayed release date) and BG1 is no where near the size of BG2, then what problems are Overhaul going to have when they start on the BG2 enhanced edition next year. Because I think my question is relevant when it comes to BG2. I hear what you saying, you are suggesting it could mean other technical issues if they can't even get cinematics working. But I do think you are "making a storm in tea cup" To answer your question I don't mind them taking out the cinematics. For me this doesn't mean they won't be delivering an enhanced game, its just one component of how BG can be improved, and a minor part. I am going to play the game and judge it on other feature that include additional quests, character, graphics and interface Those for me are worthy enhanced features. But I understand we all have different expectations for what we think should be in BGEE, so we should just agree to disagree
  12. *looks at BruceVC's location* I met some teachers once at a conference, from the poor part of Soweto. Admirable job they do. Don't get me wrong there are many public school teachers that are committed and hard working in South Africa but the reality is our public schooling is a mess in many area's. Its really bad. The government has dropped the standard to pass grade 12 so you literally get people who finish school but are unemployable. They can barely speak English and battle to read and write in English. Also it doesn't help we have 11 official languages, 11 !!! So what happens is sometimes a black person finishes school in there own language but this doesn't help as English is the main language and the language of business so they can't find work as they cannot communicate properly. This is not a problem in other African countries like Nigeria or Zambia where English is mandatory at school.
  13. There was a time during Jade Empire development where the building they were in received catastrophic flooding and caused a lot of intense damage including server damage. Much of Jade Empire's finaling occurred in a hotel as a result. I wouldn't be surprised if something like that is what caused those original things to be lost. Alan you may have an informed opinion on this type of question. Why would they have left out the cinematics in BGEE and are they difficult to recreate from scratch?
  14. Not really. Sub-standard curricula educational systems that only prepare for set standardised tests teachers who work too many hours in classes with too many students for them to be able to actually pay attention to them facilities in various states of disrepair parents who need to work two jobs because with one 8 hour shift a day the below minimum wage income isn't enough to raise a kid (as if minimum wage was) Then we have all those countries that ask for specialists with 5 year experience for every other job, but people can become teachers without any prior training whatsoever. On the lines of "Couldn't cope it in the industry? Don't worry, go stand in a classroom." Could go on. And on. Won't though I tend to agree with these points and I was going to make similar comments. A child born in abject poverty with a very bad public school system is at a disadvantage. Thats not to say they can't uplift themselves through education but its harder. The parents are unemployed or don't have an education themselves but this is a result of the social conditions of the particular country, this was not the parents intention and also not the parents fault. So I would argue most of the time tracing the root cause of bad education is not due to the parents. So the causes of badly educated children will be different from first and third world countries
  15. A few missing movies? That is a huge percentage of the movies. I mean it won't ruin the game or anything but why take out very cool content to replace it with nothing? Its probably got to do with the fact that the quality of movies would be way below the graphics standard of the game. The movies would look incongruous compared to the rest of the game. Now the question may be "why not remake the movies with the same improved graphic standard? " I have no idea how difficult or technically challenging it is to remake these types of cinematics but if it was quick job I am sure they would have done it.
  16. Well you have no comparison to compare with. You won't know what's missing because most of the movies and cut scenes have been taken out. You'll go to a new area and think nothing of it. However, for some people that have played it year after year, it may feel a little strange expecting a cutscene to a new area, chapter, town, city, etc and there isn't any. It also comes back to my question: Imagine a developer saying they are going to enhance all the cinematics in BG2 and then having nearly every cutscene and movie taken out of BG2 and relabelling BG2 'Enhanced Edition'. You seem to be okay with this? Since you've played BG2, you would know what is missing from the game. Would you want most of the movies and cutscenes taken out? It's the same thing with BGEE. Honestly I don't consider the cinematics as a very important part of an RPG or rather that relevant. I think you are comfortable with them and you expect them to be part of the game, so the thought of them being left out makes you think "this will detract from my experience. Thats why for me playing BG1 for the first time I want to look at the gameplay objectively with no previous opinion and then comment on the overall entertainment factor that BGEE provides
  17. They added to the story the first time through, usually at Act changes. There are also different areas where they pop up too. They also give you a hint as to what may happen in that act or new area. Some examples below with spoilers: Nashkel: Gnoll running along the fence to a house while the farmer's wife says goodbye to her husband. Sewers: Eggs shown at the bottom of the sewers - probably Carrion crawler eggs. Gnoll Fortress: Pans through and down a pit. Cloakwood Forest: Wyvern comes out of nowhere and takes off with a cow. They add to the story and immersion to the game. Imagine a developer saying they are going to enhance all the cinematics in BG2 and then having nearly every cutscene and movie taken out of BG2 and relabelling it an 'Enhanced Edition'. You seem to be okay with this? Okay, I see your point. I'll play the game and let you know if I felt anything was missing as it will be my first time and I won't have any expectations.
  18. I'm glad you celebrated in your own way. What might be fun is a visit to a nice, welcoming strip club. The girls love "b-days" and will spoil you rotten. Yes you will have to pay but where in life don't we pay for things?
  19. PR. Palestine was created at the same time, and if Israel were to eliminate it they'd either A) have to integrate the muslim population into their own or B) have to expel the muslim population. One is entirely unwanted by them, the other becomes a PR nightmare. That's one likely cause, the other one is probably Western support. Yes I think its a combination of all 3 factors. Nowadays annihilation of a nation or ethnic group is generally frowned upon
  20. Hahaha, same here! Though I'm kind of excited for the release of ME 1 on the PS3. Playing that on the PS3 is sort of fun and nostalgic at the same time. Getting Far Cry 3 in a few hours, ohboiohboiohboi! Gotta put Dragon Age on pause again. Goddammit! This is the third time I am quiting the game halfway through. Keep us updated on what you think about Far Cry 3, I am keen to try the game.
  21. Can I ask a stupid question, as I haven't played BG1 but I have played BG2,why would a few missing movies detract from the overall gaming experience. You still get to explore, fight creatures and make decisions that influence the game?
  22. I love randomly killing people in the streets in AC using the silent method. I don't kill enough to get the level reset but whenever someone annoys me, like commenting on my actions, they are as good as dead
  23. I have every intention of playing BGEE, but I'll comment on these forums when I want to
  24. I was watching a documentary about how strong the Swedish education system is, its obviously due to people like you. So good work, you probably don't feel it but you are doing a really good service for your country. I wish my country had an education system like yours. In our public schools there are so many examples of complete ineptitude and lack of effort from teachers. They are more concerned with striking than educating the youth. We honestly get some people who finish school but they are unemployable, they can barely speak English.
