I hear you about the falseness of consumerism perhaps undermining the mood but its always been like that ....in fact consumerism permeates all aspects of society but you just need to ignore it and focus on the significance of the day. Remember any economy really benefits from holidays like Xmas, I can't stress this point enough especially in depressed economies..like mine So for me I always leave my Xmas shopping to the last moment, still haven't started, and end up having to hit the malls when they at there busiest...getting very irritated with the madness but then its over. And then I can relax and appreciate the holiday spirit

Most people like holidays. I celebrate Eid whenever I get an invite. Well, that's not celebrating, you just get invitation, for social, neighborhood and friendship...you only celebrate Eid if you take part in the ritual... Good question, its just about the family connections. We put up a tree but there is no religious pray or anything similar So we just use the time for family / What is the significant of the tree anyway? When i was little, X-Mas do seems like joyful day though, there are a lot of X-Mas TV special, kid's show, songs...but now it could be a big and sensitive issue...but i don't care, i just wish X-Mas to every Christians... But you are not a Christian...so i hold it I don't know why we use the tree?Maybe someone else knows?

Yep. "We love America, except the millions of Americans composed of [whites/blacks/the poor/the rich/latte liberals/Republicans/Trump supporters/rapists/racists/etc/etc] that are not really American" is the basic move we see all over the world. Yay, I love Xmas...the food ...the family.....the institution of just spending time chilling So what is everyone doing? I am driving down to the coast this year(not flying ), its 600 km and I bought a new car so I want to give it a good run. Driving from JHB to the coast is awesome, you drive on this massive highway the whole way but you drive through 3 provinces ...the highveld, then a mountain range and then into the coastal area. But the scenery is amazing and there are loads of restaurants Then I'll see my family and stay a few days at our beach cottage which is situated right on the beach..like 5 meters. Its a private beach and our cousins have the cottage next to ours. Every morning I wake up at about 6 am and go onto the beach and gaze at the sea and just absorb the view ..then I snorkel and spend the day in and out of the water. I realize I'm very fortunate and I appreciate it Then of course on Xmas day we cook various roasts and we have a huge feast with our cousins Yeah I love Xmas
