The All Things Political Thread (The World and US Reunited)
BruceVC replied to Amentep's topic in Way Off-Topic
I have been meaning to chat to you about your personal views on the rise and collapse of the Brazilian economy. If you interested we must discuss this later when you have time I must say I am shocked Lula is legally allowed to run for president. He was jailed and linked to corruption and wasnt he also linked to the corruption of the state owned oil company Petrobras !!! Or is that Rousseff https://www.britannica.com/event/Petrobras-scandal Also remember for socialists and anti-free market people Brazil use to seen as an example of a "semi-socialist " success under Lula and Rousseff so when rampant corruption was exposed within the so called anti- Capitalist economy people refused to acknowledge it. And Bolsonaro initially won popular support because he represented everything that would fix this.....yet he became a thorough disappointment ....very thorough I am sorry for what you guys are going through, Brazil has the potential to still be the leading economy in South America but yes you do have bad luck with leaders and their respective economic and political policies -
Im surprised you would say that Barti, I would have assumed I must be closest to a role model for you? Think how long we have known each other, I have been active on these forums for 11 years, and all the good advice and prudent lifestyle choices you have gained from me ? I would assume its the same for KP, I must have a similar role model position for younger forum members? Dont worry, I am a humble person and dont expect constant recognition

I was about to criticize this post heavily for its lack of patriotism as NZ in part of the Commonwealth but then I read what you said and I agree with most of it -

Okay thanks, I would like to know if indeed the Research on Diversity in Youth Literature study was used as reason for the decision But they dont specifically say so in your link and I cant find other sources based on the time I am prepared to spend on this Anyway I appreciate the feedback, I dont have issues with them not publishing these 6 books anymore because I cannot say their decision was based on the biased and anti-white report -

Okay well that could change things, if in fact the decision to not publish those books is not based on the biased report than I would need to review my opinion I need to do some research, do you have links that specifically explain "Seuss estate does not cite the 2019 study " or rather do you have links that explain how they came to that conclusion ( yes I am being lazy but if you have done the research it would save time ) -

No thats not my main argument, you have some of it right but not the main point. I will repeat it again in the interests of clarity and so that other members like Raithe also can understand my view on this Its not just about this specific example of the Seuss Estate but the ongoing principle of conclusions we decide to act on based on reports or information. But if we going to act or change our thinking than the reason, in this case a report , needs to be accurate and not make false conclusions The report commissioned by the Seuss Estate made one serious conclusion that because the author of the books is white and all his main characters are white this automatically translates to white supremacy. And of course this doesn't even remotely mean his books are automatically examples of white supremacy. Anyone of any race can choose to include whatever race he wants in his own fiction stories. This cannot be ignored and immediately leads to questions of the credibility of the entire report. If the report was a witness in a trial and he was on the side of the prosecutors the defense would have a field day and take him to task on the stand because irrespective of what else he said this would impinge on his credibility and entire testimony So my argument is about the credibility of the report and how it made anti-white and biased conclusions even amongst ostensibly valid critique of certain cartoons I only added the Smerconish poll because it represents political centralists and moderate Americans and they share my view. So in other words its not just Conservatives and right-wingers who think this development is unnecessary. You can ignore what the actual sentiment on the ground is and dismiss polling data , its not going to change my main point So I am not arguing " they have no right " , its a private entity and they can do what they like. The argument is based on " how they came to the decision " And its based on a biased report which should concern all of us with its " conclusions " of the Dr Seuss books and the ideological views of the author. -
Wormie it seems like you are victim of your own devices ?? Meaning its self-inflicted

This made me laugh but we must be careful to not believe or spread this type of double standards

Raithe I always appreciate your input but I have explained my reasons several times for objecting to this banning/ not publishing and I am not going to repeat them again but you can go back a few threads and see what my objection is -

Nah, thats definitely not the reason I am opposed to the banning/not publishing of the books This is just a sweeping generalization and ignores other pertinent concerns -
Raithe where are pictures of historical characters in chainmail bikini armor ? We mustn't discriminate now and avoid pictures of important female characters like Red Sonya ? Great reminder by the way on how things have improved with character choice

Heres to all the beautiful and amazing women in our lives. This day matters in the global campaign to ensure the implementation of fair and reasonable gender equality and address some of the real challengers women still face globally I support gender equality so this day is important to me ....I just wish it was a public holiday in SA because I like public holidays

Its a minor distinction and I dont think it will matter much to the overall taste of your curry ? The UK has a huge and famous Indian food culture, many famous Indian takeways come from the UK and the UK Indian community or have become mainstream because of this Like Chicken Tikka Masala who many say originated in the UK https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chicken_tikka_masala

I have a dilemma but its one of those nice conundrums ... now that I have completed Inquisitor what do I play next? I have so many unplayed games on GOG and Steam I am spoilt by choice. The last 3 games I played were Inquisitor, Bard Tale 4 and Divinity 2. All were excellent games with D:OS2 being my favorite so I am going to take a temporary break from party based RPG I am seriously considering Fable Anniversary ....has anyone played it and what was it like ? -
I didnt know what Chicken Massaman was so I looked it up, it looks great. I love all curry's and I like them hot ...like very hot https://www.allrecipes.com/recipe/142055/chicken-massaman-curry/ In SA and especially Durban where I was born we have an established Indian community that came to SA in the 1800's as indentured laborers. Anyway the SA Indian community is one of our 4 official races and their culture is part of the Durban cultural landscape. So I grew up with lots of Indian takeaways all over the place and got to eat the best curry in the world....Durban Indian curry !!!

You raise a good point around moderation and the degrees of unhealthy consumption that exists in many Western counties and this does have a direct impact on peoples health And yes, always drink as much water as possible....you see, you and I do agree on certain things

I blame China for all the Carbs we eat, I am convinced its a plot from the CCP to destroy the Capitalist system. Think about it Comrade, it makes sense because the Chinese eat lots of noodles and that is Carbohydrates and they export noodles to places like the USA....and this leads to bad eating habits that lead to health problems like obesity and diabetes Sometimes you need to go down the rabbit hole to understand the truth !!!!!!

The Pope also visited Mosul which use to be the ISIS capital in Iraq during the era of the false ISIS Caliphate And he met with the highest ranking Shia in Iraq so its been a comprehensive tour to Iraq and he has done exceptionally well at visiting different places and people important to both Muslims and Christians -

Gromnir you and Amentep are raising similar points about this is a decision made entirely by the Seuss Estate and therefore its a private decision and should or can be respected without overreacting and calling out spurious examples of censorship I agree but that is not the primary issue for me. If you read the link below you will see the Seuss Estate came to this conclusion based on a report and study that was commissioned. That is the real issue, the study came to some conclusions that were clearly inaccurate, biased and anti-white and we should all feel very uncomfortable with this You cannot possibly suggest just because a white person writes a story and all the characters are white that means the book advocates white supremacy???? Yes their were other conclusions but that type of biased direct analysis calls into question all other points raised and in a courtroom that evidence would be considered tainted ...or something similar, you know the legal nomenclature So the Seuss Estate should implement another study by people that aren't blatantly biased and anti-white Then I will reflect on it objectively and decide if it makes sense https://edition.cnn.com/2021/03/02/us/dr-seuss-books-cease-publication-trnd/index.html -

https://store.steampowered.com/app/241620/Inquisitor/ Yesterday I finished Inquisitor, I spent about 200 hours playing this game and it provided a thoroughly entertaining RPG experience I recommend it but with some caveats, firstly the basic RPG mechanics, like party AI, and combat can be frustrating but from about level 35 as a priest you get access to effective combat spells which helps Also its definitely "hardcore " old school with no hand holding so dont play this game if you expecting an easy experience. For example on the various maps their are no beeping dots or marked areas where people and dungeons are so you need to explore to find critical quest related people But the narrative is really compelling and you can literally decide to be evil and serve the dark angels and decide to rule the world under eternal darkness if you want. Of course I chose the side of the good guys and defeated the demonic armies and their followers Their are also a myriad of quests and some of them have nothing to do with the main quest and that is always appreciated so you motivated to explore various places outside what you have to explore I give it a solid 68/100 on the globally respected " BruceVC gaming rating system " -

I wouldnt call it moral panic .....its a good question? I wouldn't call it moral because for me that word is real and means something that is consistent and sometimes cancel culture is more about grandstanding, sheep mentality and people having an automatic knee-jerk reaction to certain developments only if committed by one group or another. So its inconsistent with how it manifests I see it as a form of isolating and punishing people or companies we dont like and it has a direct impact on the revenue stream of the targeted group ? So its punitive and a form of punishment IMO -
I love Sushi and I remember the first time I ate Sushi was also during that "gastronomic epiphany " time period about 15-20 years ago when I first move to JHB We went to this well know Japanese theme restaurant called " Codfathers " , I ordered a plate of sushi for the first time and even though I didnt know how to use the chopsticks I enjoyed my first taste. I didnt know what the purpose and etiquette of the ginger, soy sauce and wasabi was and I assumed the wasabi was a dipping sauce of some kind. So I smothered one piece of sushi and put it in my mouth .... It was the hottest and most uncomfortable experience, at the time, of my life. My nose started running uncontrollably and I literally rushed to the toilet to try to cool myself down. But I learnt my lesson....wasabi is not quite like barbeque sauce that you smother your food with
