  1. You have done well, good troubleshooting. Its interesting how my steps to understand the issue worked because these steps cover most issues but sometimes the fix is complicated or the problem still exists. And also these arent my steps but a Microsoft proven way to troubleshoot issues ....but the point being its solved your issue and that is the main thing My advice is create new desktop icons and shortcuts because you have a new profile and as much as we dont like it sometimes creating a new profile is a good performance exercise Plus you can get rid of old unnecessary junk. And all your games should still work ?
  2. Okay we making progress, so now the issue points at your windows profile. Logon with a new user account to create a new OS profile. Lets see if that works
  3. Here is a link to discuss safe mode, I do realize safe mode is not something commonly used https://www.dell.com/support/kbdoc/en-za/000124344/how-to-boot-to-safe-mode-in-windows-10
  4. Guys surely we should all know by now how the outrage and framing of certain events works when it comes to developments that the US or UK or most " Western " countries are involved in when it comes to places like ME Their is normally bias , like the US is at war with Islam, and selective but real issues raised by some media houses and countries that comment in the public space Drones are an effective and proven strategy in the war on terror, they are not going to be dropped because of the nature of how some of these extremist groups operate in countries like Yemen and Afghanistan . But of course we never like to hear of these tragedies because when a drone attack goes badly it can lead to civilian deaths but its also a sad reality that Afghanistan is a country that has a history of bombings and indiscriminate killings of civilians by numerous groups like the Taliban or ISIS. For example in the years before the US withdrawal this is just one example of bombs and general violence directed towards civilians ...and I am not saying this normalizes the US drone issue but when a mistake is made in a country where you have weekly intentional killings of citizens you must ask " is this something that needs anti- US sentiment and global coverage " ? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/October_2020_Afghanistan_attacks @Darkpriest But I am not convinced its fair to blame Biden for the sequence of events with the US withdrawal. He is receiving lots of criticism and suddenly we have all this concern from people about the future of the country and the erosion of the positive changes the US invasion brought. But the current state of Afghanistan is not great. The current Taliban are better than the old Taliban but not really in the ways that matter. They have no experience or institutional knowledge in how to run a country so their is very little chance of the country not getting much worse in its economic progress and the general quality of life getting worse and worse. The Taliban are trying to ensure the country doesn't collapse but I dont see how any objectives will ever be So we should all prepare ourselves for what a collapse means to us and what will the real consequences be ?Personally I will be sad and disappointed if this happens but I dont blame the US for this outcome. I have always supported the US and its allies in the necessary phases after 9/11 and yes when mistakes occurred, like the justification for the Iraq invasion, we accept these mistakes and learn from them but we dont focus on that incident as all that matters I went to Afghanistan once in 2006 and what I really enjoyed seeing was the established ways that women now had rights and access to education. It was patently obvious in Kabul where there were already schools for Afghan girls and Afghan women in government and working. All of us have women in our lives that matter on every level but none of us would ever be concerned about a law that prevented any young girl from being educated or a law that simply made it illegal for any women to hold a job. So for me and witnessing this type of positive change after 9/11 made me feel much better about the outcomes of war on terror as I had become jaded about the Iraq invasion and was questioning what was the purpose So seeing something like Afghan women being educated and working really made a difference for me at the time So what is going to upset me will be the erosion of women's rights, at least this is the only country I know of where Sharia law is interpreted in that way and to be a little fair to the Taliban they shouldnt be considered an Islamic extremist group but rather a Islamic militant group? But the point is they not like ISIS or AQ, they just have very outdated views of Sharia law
  5. I have spent many years dealing with issues similar to what you seeing, I dont work in PC\IT desktop support or OS support as my job is about financial software consultancy. But all software requires an OS and we use client software that installs on desktops and integrates into numerous financial desktop products like Bloomberg Client Which means every project and customer I have ever worked at has a Pilot phase where a subset of users are designated to test and confirm functionality of the product we install and these pilots projects can range from 50 people in a 800 user stock broker to 500 people in a 60000 user bank But the point being my work involves working with and sometimes troubleshooting windows desktops because if the financial client software doesn't work the problem is generally desktop. So I want to share somethings that may help you with your problem, in summary You have a real problem that needs to be addressed but the good news is you can follow a relatively simple sequence that I follow to troubleshoot in most cases where I have seen similar issues Firstly what OS are you running? But reboot your PC and go into Safe Mode before windows loads, once in Safe Mode if your issues have gone away then its a DLL or driver that is causing the corruption and you can be selective about what not to load if you have the patience If the issue is still their in safe mode then logon with a new windows profile to see if the problem is a corruption in the profile. This can happen and causes different symptoms Also a virus can definitely cause this but I dont thinks its hardware related which is a good thing Finally I dont know how confident you feel in doing what I suggested, it may be foreign to you in which case keep it simple and just install the OS again ....it wont break anything if you select update or similar choices. Failing that I would take it to a PC repair shop. Because their are many things that can cause the problems you experiencing and sometime rarely you need a proper analysis done by people trained to troubleshoot OS and desktop issues You and I are more or less the same age which means we will have similar memories of historical events we lived through but as is normal we have different journeys through life which would influence some of our views and beliefs. This is a good thing of course and one reason we learn from each other ....so this post of yours made me laugh but only because it represents something that is considered anathema and " not effective troubleshooting " when you have to produce real reports at customers about issues with the systems we sell and integrate. And the reality is a trading system in any financial company that is not performing properly after we implemented our eDiscovery systems needs to be investigated properly and the RCA (root cause analysis ) performed and the findings have to be based on actual causes and proven problems....so basically the art and learned experience of troubleshooting with these types of systems can never be based or formulated on guesses, unscientific analysis or any kind of metric that cant be proven So your post really made me laugh because it reminds of what they explain you must never say when you at a customer and their has been a problem that was created after we did some work and now important people in the customer want answers which they entitled to especially if it was the fault of our consultants who have been their for 6 months or so And what made me laugh is your explanation about the mouse issue is exactly what any normal person would say who is not necessarily trained in analysis of this type of product .....it just doesn't make any sense to people who need to fix the issue but yet it fixed the issue so you being absolutely honest I know this may not seem funny but it is if you appreciate the stereotype. And what makes it more interesting is you are someone with a deep understanding of DIY and how these things work.....and this is something I know nothing about And yet if I had to explain some of my minor DIY issues in my flat at the moment you may be shocked how I havent been able to fix them because for you they would be simple tasks I really made this long post to highlight how our combined knowledge of things grants us general knowledge of many things.....nice to live in a world where we can benefit from each other
  6. I sincerely hope you can play games.....what is the point to gaming as a great hobby if you cant play any games due to a PC problem....hopefully your issue is not hardware related as it sounds more like a type of corruption within the user profile that is more software related but not " BSOD "( blue screen of death ) So it should be able to be fixed, keep us updated
  7. Im having a delicious, unctuous Kessler Rib for dinner. We eat it with pineapple for the sweetness
  8. That video is brilliant, the family did a great job. The little girls are really cute
  9. You nearly did the same thing to me, you closed a thread when I was posting now but it did still make the post in the old, closed thread. I then copied and pasted my post directed to Mamie in the new thread But I dont see how you would know when a thread has someone actively posting so I cant imagine how this can be prevented ? I love exploiting and playing with the AI in Ubisoft games which is what I am doing in AC Odyssey now ...I love letting NPCs and enemies resort to different strategies to defeat me and how I can fool them Its very entertaining
  10. Last question I want to ask you on this topic because I dont want to hijack a gaming discussion with this type of interesting non-gaming debate When you say you have unions in the private sector that get salary increases and bonuses these companies I assume are not running at a loss ? So in other words would you agree with me you cant expect a bonus normally when the company fails to make its yearly target or is running at a loss because these are 2 separate things but both present the same problem....the private sector company cant pay you a bonus or double your salary increase if it has no money to pay this type of expense
  11. @Mamoulian War I have very bad SA experiences with unions, very bad But you clearly have properly working unions in Slovakia and we dont. For example our state controlled energy company is running at about 24 Billion Euro loss and has been for about 5-6 years due to state capture corruption that is now over . Unions at the SOE ( state owned entity ) are demanding double inflation salary increases and performance bonuses !!! But the institution is running at an incredible loss and is just costing us tax payers money....the unions are also fighting logical and normal structural reforms to address this drain on the SA tax base as we still have to bailout every year all our loss making SOE ....and this issue occurs with almost all our unions. They make outrageous demands in state owned institutions that are funded by taxpayers yet are running at a loss https://www.dailymaverick.co.za/article/2019-07-23-the-never-ending-story-of-eskom-bailouts-mboweni-introduces-special-bill-of-billions-more/

  13. But Mamie, something else about finding solutions to discrimination I firmly believe this can be vastly reduced but please.....I beg you in the interests of all things sustainable and effective....we dont need unions or the idea of unionization in the gaming industry as a solution This is not a union problem
  14. , you right ....their are numerous examples of certain companies being in contravention of their own codes of conduct But I cannot comment on the gaming industry and why this happens. Because personally I have only worked primarily in listed companies in the financial and software sector and people absolutely do get fired if they discriminate through cases like sexism or racism Its a clear violation of any company policy I have ever signed so the culture of discrimination doesnt grow or be practiced because you get fired.....it really can be as simple as that
  15. This may seem like a valid point but no one in an interview, if even asked , is going to say " yes I like to discriminate agaisnt xxx " so I am not sure how your idea could be reasonably implemented But thats why company policies and codes of conduct matter and address these things....you should sign these types of legal documents when you join any private or public sector institution
  16. I can do that but its easier if someone understands it to spend the 2 minutes explaining it
  17. I am confused by the point of this meme but I think its significant ....I just dont get it? Is it prolife or prochoice, I assume its saying when you take away a womens choice it can lead to many kids being raised in foster care which is not ideal. So I would assume its prochoice but why do they frame the prolife in a positive way with a parent ?
  18. Thanks for the details around numerous games , nice one
  19. Im 12 hours into AC Odyssey and I am definitely deep into that inexorable " Ubisoft Honeymoon period " ...the game is great and I am loving it I have just left the starting isle and I thoroughly appreciate how that whole part of the game is your learning curve. I am comfortable with combat and loved the normal parts of the game like killing bandits, crafting and completing side quests Im sure the inevitable " Ubisoft fatigue " will settle in and I will move to complete the main quest but right now I am just enjoying exploring and completing side quests
  20. I tend to agree that many media houses will frame things based on their own biases and views even if they, for example, dont specifically say " we support BLM protests even when they are violent but we dont acknowledge the violence and blame the police " But if you take CNN they also raise valid issues and raise important issues so I feel they do more good than bad And also what is unusual in the US is the prevalence of " opinion pieces " where you have media houses, like FOX and MSNBC, that often report using opinion journalism and not " normal " journalism based on facts and not being biased both intentionally and unintentionally But I have definitely noticed what you have observed at times and I have raised this on this forum and other places. So in example we have months of violent protests in Portland and generally CNN doesnt focus on the violence and criminality of some the protestors but will focus on the police response and the deployment of Federal security forces as draconian https://www.oregonlive.com/politics/2020/09/100-days-of-black-lives-matter-protests-in-portland-timeline-and-photos-trace-the-arc-of-events.html
  21. https://www.gameinformer.com/preview/2021/09/06/everything-we-know-about-elden-ring More news about Elden Ring, this time very interesting with some real design and gameplay information about this impending game. I think it looks great, 21 January 2022 is the ETA
  22. You right about the exclusion of rape and incest, its just seems particularly cruel and insensitive One consolation about the US and these new draconian abortion laws is most women have the option of leaving Texas and getting an abortion in another state. So at least its not a country wide legal change
  23. I dont think enforcement is the key, I think a clear understanding and acceptance of the code of conduct and acceptable behavior in any company is the best and most sustainable solution going forward People sometimes genuinely misunderstand what is considered sexual harassment
  24. It is one solution and part of the choices provided, taking personal responsibility for not accidently falling pregnant is possible But not everyone has access to pharmacies or drugs that can help, so we see this in countries like SA. We have a major problem with underage pregnancies in SA, this year we had 934 girls age 10-14 falling pregnant https://www.iol.co.za/news/politics/934-girls-aged-10-to-14-gave-birth-between-april-2020-and-march-2021-gauteng-health-mec-7ebedd6f-96b8-469e-ac1c-766d52ae042b
