  1. On the same tone, as the other OP supposed, perhaps the guy wasn't in KOTOR2, and he was only involved in AP, that means that such a "developer" has a bad job history, only 1 project with Obsidian... perhaps he was truly committed, perhaps he was honest, perhaps, perhaps... only suppositions that must be answer by the source, which in this case, does not give any reassurance of his existence... a good troll? a resented employee, worst for him since he's in a very difficult position, risking his current job but at the same time unable to say his name... terrible and stupid move in these times when this game is under fire, perhaps he wanted his 5 minutes of fame... but sadly he cannot enjoy it, with such an idiotic move, no wonder why Obsidian let him go... or perhaps he's from another company? or perhaps... what is not a "perhaps" is the fact that you cannot give credibility to a gossip. I work with the software development industry and I've been involved in game development cycles, some points he mentioned seems logical and valid, but also lacks of the points of story development, animation mechanics, writing, concept art and whatnot, he seems more like a software developer ( I mean, a member whose tasks are limited to coding) than a PM or even a PL, the citations of work politics is not different from another job... did he mention why AvP shouldn't be scrapped?, did he mention any interaction with the writers, the animation team, the art team?... what makes it plausible is the cliche of any development project (failure of product delivery due to bad project management because the PM is well connected the stakeholders and stockholders)... for example, in these forums, this thread the OP explains technical topics in terms art direction and you know he knows what he's talking about... not like the "tired developer" whose comments seems more like a toilet pub whining after 4 pints of ale...
  2. Don't the trolls generally use the word "fanboy" as support or opening word?...
  3. Indeed... so far I've seen people put off without even try the game, but I've seen that perhaps 7 out of 10 who gave the game a try, to be pleased with the game... if Obsidian deliver patches in time, many people will be buying the game onwards
  4. I like the game but that doesn't mean I totally discard the possibility, the point I was making is that it is not good that someone who makes such comments, true or untrue, this shows a lack of respect and professionalism... perhaps what the developer is saying is true, but there are places and times to do that i.e. you can vent your comments in house, the dirty laundry is washed home... besides, if you want to speak the true the most normal is that you give your personal details, not under an anonymous or avatar... this is more like a cheap gossip covered by the "journalism" a la Sun (at least the Sun is honest crap) As I said before, if this were a everyday thing, I wouldn't be impressed... but so far, it is the first time that after all that criticism this "person" comes and do such comments, why it didn't happen on the days of KOTOR2? when the game is regarded as unfinished... I don't disregard the flaws in AP (graphics, combat and AI), I believe if AP would have got ME2's graphics, combat and AI, it would have been a real model game perhaps like Demon's Soul. Hidden agenda or not, it does affect the sales, many people who was eager to buy the game have been put off, others, like ourselves, just ignored those reviews and gave a chance... but without those over critical reviews and the "tired developer" comments, many people would buy the game.
  5. Go to the weapon locker, there you can change the weapon and put add-ons (silencer, custom gripe, etc). Same with the armor. Also you can select the gadgets you are going to use.
  6. Agree, it is neither professional nor ethical to talk in that manner about your former employee. Things happen or crap happens, but still venting your frustration and anger in a public forum is not the place... and also it is not the time, when there are many over critical reviews. What really impress me is why the "online press" gives credit to such comments from an unreliable source, it is more like sticking the finger to a wound... not very professional. Before such a coverage, I used to think that harsh reviews were too hard on this game, but supporting those reviews by those developer's comments, is going too far... as I said before, why there isn't coverage on what it is said in others companies on regards buggy games (for example Bionware on DAO for xbox)?... if there was fairness, I wouldn't be impress but it is quite clear that the "games press" is rotten, not a reliable source of information as most of the people here know. However it has damaged the game... if that was the main objective...
  7. Thank you Garbage, your post was... good you are not coming back, we really do not need you, errr.. Garbage...
  8. what do you mean PAL versions? PAL is the european standard for TV, it uses different specifications than NTSC. NTSC is the Americas standard for TV. The Xbox in North America uses NTSC and the Xbox in Europe uses PAL, if you try to play an European Xbox (PAL) game in an American Xbox (NTSC) it will not play and vice versa.
  9. I don't know if Gamestop North America has got the Xbox 360 PAL version, I only know that the Xbox PAL version for Europe is working fine with no issues so far. For Xbox games in North America, you must have the NTSC version.
  10. This is bizarre, my Xbox copy works with no problems, I think even better than the PC version... I'm in the UK, but I think the only difference should be TV format, instead of PAL just NTSC... unless Mr. Thorton speaks with a british accent in the US version, but in the UK version, he sounds american...
  11. Well, it is relevant if the dev is real o not... the fact these comments are being taking as news, it is beyond normal... for example, you comments from someone who just posted once, and claims "RDR is a good game" is news along different sites: "RDR is a good game- Jack-Bauer", "RDR is a good game, superior to AP, says Jack-Bauer"... sorry but no serious company will publish that unless there is something behind...
  12. Yeah, but I see BS in what you're on about. Have you played Mass Effect 2? Whether a person likes the action-focus trend of many RPGs these days, ME2 deserves all the praise it gets. There are niggling issues here and there, but overall it reeks of pure quality. The same can be said for those other games ('cept maybe Oblivion, which I thought was over-hyped). I love Obsidian and I will keep supporting them as a company (I will preorder New Vegas, and likely their as-of-yet unannounced game), but I am dumbstruck by how delusional some people are being. Alpha Protocol has many faults and it deserves the reviews it is getting, especially when you compare it to the competition over the last several years (and I mean the more critical US reviews, Euro reviews don't seem to find as much). And yes, many big-name games (usually popular franchises) seem to get it easier at times. But don't try to pass off AP's deservedly lackluster ratings on some ridiculous conspiracy. Well, I've got ME2 and I like it, good combat, presentation and AI (sometimes)... I don't consider the RPG quality as AP does posses. Of course big-name games usually got positive ratings, the fact of making a news from an anonymous "tired developer" it's far beyond a normal thing, this seems like a disqualification campaign.
  13. I agree with OPs, I found these sites giving credit to the "tired developer" comments in Joystiq, specially Destruictoid... this really seems like a disqualification campaign, specially in North America. While agree the game needs enhancements in the presentation, AI and combat, those current characteristics are acceptable but not really crappy. Yes, there is a conspiracy against AP, why bother to take the comments of an unreliable source as news when usually such comments are disregarded?.... This is very Alpha Protocol. lol
  14. Doing some googling, I came across some sites highlighting the "tired developer" comment in Joystiq: play.tm combo.com destructoid What catch my attention is since the poster is anonymous and the comments cannot be checked as legit, there are some online sites, especially destructoid that gives coverage and "credibility" to those comments. It seems that there's a campaign to disqualify this game, why give coverage to such comments?, since the source is not reliable... why none of those sites give coverage to another companies whose forums are plagued with complains (bioware for DAO in the xbox technical forums, for example)?... Something is not right here, perhaps Obsidian is not doing a good PR...
  15. Indeed, this game has got potential and it has got many interesting things (dialogue, character development, replayability) that should be preserved. A better presentation (graphics, art direction), better AI and combat mechanics, will make this game a reference. I just hope it doesn't end as ME2, good presentation, AI and combat mechanics, but few RPG elements...
  16. Xbox 360, here. And yes, I've got a multimedia PC connected to the big telly.
  17. Many of the EU game reviewers are old PC gamers from the era when you had to manually edit config.sys and autoexec.bat just to play the games. So they do have high tolerance for the design issues, as well as bugs. They do notice 'em, but don't drop score as much as in the new country. Not quite right, if you read the european reviews, they praise the RPG elements, not the graphics. In fact, the graphics are not that bad and it's not even old PC's, the european gamers value the game's "essence", not the presentation, of course the graphics matters but that doesn't automatically make a game good or bad, once you play the game and feel that "essence" you decide if it good or bad Here, 3D television is ready for the worldcup and there are football matches already broadcasted in 3D.(as a technological reference) In Xbox, the game is playable with no major issues. From the American reviews, they give too much credit to the looks first, then the game itself. But as one OP mentioned, they back up more titles with a big marketing campaign and even if they note bugs and glitches, they usually minimise them...

  19. This is exactly one of the values of AP, which is not highlighted in most of the reviews, specially the bad ones: the character developing and replayability, beyond the bad/good behaviour. I'm on my second playthrough as well, and I'm exploring other approaches and interactions. Despite the graphics, in the dialogues, you can see the instant reactions of your counterparts... sometimes using the confident stance, you can see their faces saying "this bloody arrogant", lol, which is very well achieve in AP.
  20. Indeed, Mr. Thornton's suave approach lacks of that charming factor, even Craig's Bond is more charming... but since the core personality is well defined, he'll look schizophrenic going totally Connery or Brosnan, lol
  21. Yes, perhaps the "Professional" is more normal, I like the "Suave" approach, but it is not Bond at all, despite Obsidian claimed it... no, nothing of Bond in Mr. Thornton.
  22. So far the complains are with regards of graphics and mini games. As I agree that graphics could be improved, perhaps more a la Batman Arkham than ME2, the current graphics are not that bad, in Xbox version. The hacking mini game is challenging for me since I need to use my glasses due to my astigmatism prob, but I agree that it should be enhanced. But in terms of RPG, and I believe this is a RPG game, this game does what a RPG game should do, taking from wikipedia: "The player in RPGs controls one or several adventuring party members fulfilling one or many quests. The major similarities with pen-and-paper games involve developed story-telling and narrative elements, player character development, complexity, as well as replayability and immersion.". No, character development is not limited to make a female and put her in a mini skirt, it is related to add skills and perks in order to develop it. As a RPG player for years, combats are more a consequence than a feature of a RPG. As I agree the combat mechanics should be better, a la ME2, I like the fact to develop the character skills as the game evolve, no pistol training no hitting... when I see this feature, I understand why many people are complaining bitterly... but this is a RPG, not a shooter. I like ME2 but the RPG elements, (i.e. narrative, character development, complexity, immersion) are very bad implemented compared with AP. When the OP claims about conversation flow, so far the conversation keeps flowing... depending on your response, the only time the conversation is not flowing is when... you kill your counterpart...
  23. Yes, that hacking is horrible, in the Xbox version, moving the LS and RS. is slooooow, so when you find it the bloody password, after 6 seconds, the other 6 seconds are wasted moving and placing the password... I changed the sensitivity and it helped a little, but still it is slow.
  24. Hey morgoth, were you playing stealthy? What's your build? Is it truly possible to go through the entire game without killing anyone as was billed by Obsidian? Forget that. You'll have to shoot dudes. A lot. No way around. And yes, I maxed out Stealth. Good to know, I was about to max stealth out... I suppose I'll keep maxing the rifle Nah, there's plenty opportunity to use your stealth skills. Just don't expect to rely on it once hell breaks lose and 10 guys are after you! lol, indeed... in fact I do prefer stealth, but as backup I had to put some points on the rifle, for those situations
