In Megatawn? Yeah. Make a separate save or start an evil character, whatever it takes. Prob. the best explosion in any game ever. Kind of like a cinematic or do you just have to get far enough away and watch the fireworks? Anyway, I look eat of Minefield for DM but I couldn't find him...

Off to get Dogmeat!

I found the Bethesda Ruins about 3 hours ago. Everyone there is dead now. I was hoping for an easter egg or something, but that's it: Bethesda Ruins with some raiders inside. Too bad. I actually work in Bethesda. That's a shame. I'll be moving there a week from today. Is there anything interesting in the Rosslyn-Courthouse area of Arlington? Anyhow, the developers' offices are actually out in Rockville. You can see the building (with a "Zenimax" sign, which is their parent company) if you drive north on I-270 through the Rockville-Gaithersburg area. Not too familiar with Courthouse/Arlington....other than the usual touristy stuff in Arlington. I actually live in Ashburn, VA, which is about 30 minutes west of DC. Don't make it into Arlington that much. I'm going to have to drive past their building or pay them a visit :D Anyway, back to FO3 after my marathon session yesterday.....

I'm having a lot more fun now Just cleared a den of fire ants! MFers were tough as nails! I found something that has SEVERELY turned the tide in my favor, maybe unbalancing-ly so. A RIPPER!! I climbed out of the metro at Falls Church and was able to shred a group of supermutants limb from limb! This thing might be a bit overpowered because you can simply hold down the attack button and, as it's name implies, it rips and rips and rips! It has no ammo, either, so that makes it even worse. If you get within striking distance of anybody that uses guns, they're mince meat. Anybody else come across this thing yet? Also, having just moved to the DC metro area, it's really weird traveling the the ruins of places I drive by nearly every day. It's really quite surreal. [Edit]Having said that, is it possible to travel to Bethesda, MD?

I don't think it's really possible to gimp your char, unless you like take 1 in every stat and never raise any combat skills. And use VATS. Seriously. It makes the game soooo much easier in the beginning. I'm playing hard, and I had no trouble wiping out the old elementary or the supermarket only using the first gun you get. I'm thinking about cranking up the difficulty since it's been so easy. That's the thing. I went through the school pretty easily. I snuck most of the time, which was very effective, just open VATS aim for the head, head, head. Watch "bullet time" and then head asplode. That's hard to do in the wastes. My problem with VATS is that it seems only good for the first attack. After that, it's hard to get back into without sitting there hitting 'V' and getting pounded. Am I supposed to just dodge after that? Plus when I get back into VATS I have a lot fewer actions points. I'm thinking of becoming a jet/chem addict!

I don't know how people are thinking this game is too easy. I'm playing on hard, and I'm dying all the time just trying to finish some quests from the first town (not IN the first town, mind you). So far my biggest gripe is that there are TOO MANY encounters in the wasteland. It's supposed to be barren and desolate, but after falling back, strafing, and dodging many raider bullets, I find myself in a NEST of supermutants (at level 4). If I manage to survive THAT encounter, I have no ammo and only a sledgehammer to my name. What happens then? Another encounter with raiders. I understand the wastes are a dangerous place, but god damn. It could be that I'm not used to VATS yet (I like the system a lot, and it shows that turn based FPS IS possible), or I've built a gimped character that tries to be good at too many things, namely sneak, science, speech being tags, and putting points in lockpick and repair. I guess that's not going to work in FO3.

Yeah, I see where you can in the options, but why bloom to begin with? It gives everything this blurry haze.
-
So I'm running around through the character creation still...and I don't know if it's the bloom or HDR or whatever, but I don't like the trend of new games having that "glow" to them? What's the purpose of it? It doesn't make it look any "better" only give the world a "dreamy" quality to it, if that makes any sense.

"War....War never changes..." I feel like a giddy little school girl again!

TOO LATE!

I do earn my own...figured it was worth a shot.

One perk per level sounds a bit like overkill.

Sounds pretty good. This will be my first video game purchase since NWN2!

How is dialog handled compared to Oblivion? No wheelie thing? Or is it based purely on skill/stats, as it should be? And does what you say actually matter, or do you just get more options?
-
Don't worry, it's barely perceptible and can hardly be construed as being game-breaker like it was in Oblivion: -The creatures you encounter (radroach, deathclaw, etc) NEVER scale. -Loot that isn't hand-placed but is random will scale; -It would be more accurate to say the wasteland is divided into encounter level area portions, that is designed for level x characters, but locks upon being discovered: For example, if your level 2 character stumbles upon a city ruin designed for level 4 characters, then he's going to be in for a hard time. However, the level of enemies in that area is 4. So if you come back later, their level will be locked at 4 and you should be able to pr4wn them; Areas designed for a lower level character that you HAVEN'T previously discovered will have slight scaling though. That is, if your level 12 character stumbles upon a slaver camp designed for level 6 characters, then the slavers will scale to about 8 or so. I sure hope so. Whew.

Sounds good, so far. With regard to graphics, how system intensive is it? Keeping in mind I could make Oblivion look purdy and still perform well. That being said, I'm running: XP SP2 (need to grab 3, I guess) Dual Core 2.2 Ghz 2 G RAM 512 MB GeForce 8600M GT

Level scaling!? GOD DAMMIT! GOD DAMMIT! GOD DAMMIT! GOD DAMMIT! GOD DAMMIT! GOD DAMMIT! GOD DAMMIT! GOD DAMMIT! GOD DAMMIT! GOD DAMMIT! GOD DAMMIT! GOD DAMMIT!

Why of course? I'm running SP3 and it works fine. What's the reason with sticking to SP2? Because I didn't know SP3 was out yet! Thanks for the heads up!

Switched back to FF2 and everything works fine, now.
