  1. They do get soundbites from the debate for campaign ads and clips will likely be shown all over social media. Is why people are criticizing Biden for saying that "Antifa is just an idea"
  2. As an alcoholic I resent this, I buy my own booze because its cheaper and I don't have to drive home. We need to stop these harmful stereotypes that make it seem like we are out there getting wasted and having fun.
  3. I know I would have spam eggs and rice with a side of french fries (from real potatos not the frozen stuff) Last drink would be a glass of Bowmore 15. Edit: Would Eva Green count? Cause I would love to eat her out.
  4. Don't worry, sooner or later all games get dysfunction.
  5. what a dickish move.
  6. The government backed those assets instead of regulating and punishing the organizations selling toxic assets. That government assurance meant that it was safe to invest even it failed because the Federal government would honor the debt Which is spurred by the fact that student loans can't be defaulted by law and that the Federal government is a major lender. Student loans might as well be a massive citizen tax on higher education.
  7. Define "some", the biggest economic problems in the US in the past 10 years have been caused by government control. Whenever there's a guarantee from the state to dump money into a sector then the sector grows without any thought to sustainability. Is why we had a housing bubble and why we now have a student loan bubble. I'm curious why you think that state control is better than the state merely enforcing anti trust laws that already exist. This is the biggest problem I have with government, both federal and state: It is always run by someone that doesn't know what laws are in the book and whose biggest effort go into reintroducing a already existing law to fix an issue rather than enforcing what's already there. You really want those effete government to run the economy?
  8. IDK, a state controlled economy vs a free market seems to be a big difference.
  9. That growing sector can be categorized as Socialist vs Libertarian.
  10. Good luck with your job hunt
  11. I work for a manufacturer and even though I'm not directly involved with the supply chain planning I still rub elbows with them and look at their actions enough to say, there's a lot of planning involved with pricing. Now the driving and warehouse costs don't count as much because it is a running cost, unless you specifically have to freight the item separately so that it is stocked. Same with the website maintenance and other operational costs. The big ones are the production cost or the buying cost, because those are the ones that you can affect. If you can make an item for under a dollar and sell it for $3 then that's over $2 in profit per item sold. You usually work with the seller/factory in order to lower those costs, a farmer will sell lower if he/she doesn't have to transport their goods, that pickup might be handle by a local company that works with a bigger seller like Amazon. That's one thing people seem to don't know about when it comes to big corporations, they usually subcontract to specialized companies for a lot of their operations. Which creates jobs, for every major company there are a bunch of smaller ones that stay in business because of the bigger ones.
  12. True story, we would definitively do **** like that back in the day.
  13. You sound like the kind of oblivious that believes that Al Capone was a model citizen that just avoided taxes. Cause obviously if Al Capone was a mafia boss Gromnir would know, just like he knew about Epstein...why didn't you say anything then?
  14. If people don't trust the system then we fall apart, BLM and Antifa claim disenfranchisement and there's some truth to it. We saw how Bernie got shafted in the DNC election and how Seth Rich died in an "attempted robbery"; a common trope around the Clintons, as some suspect he leaked the info of how the DNC conspired against Bernie. Now they don't vote; they riot, which is exactly what workers in the Bernie campaign said it would happen. Its about trust not efficacy, if people don't trust the results then they no longer feel represented and things will get tense.
  15. ....You speak Japanese?
  16. Godwin's law has been out there for a while. Apparently Hitler did everything, he even was part of a zionist conspiracy to displace European jews to Palestine so that they could reclaim their ancestral land once the British ceased to be a colonial power, that for some reason kept the falklands isles and the rock of Gibraltar. So if you love Israel, you're like Hitler.
  17. Look, a secret hideout doesn't finance itself and the only way you can justify to the board why you need budget for a pool is as an elaborate plan to throw people to be eaten by sharks. Why do you think hideouts are always in some paradise island away from civilization?.....one man's evil lair is another man's vacation resort.
  18. You mean....Ice Cube isn't a pimp anymore????
  19. Yeah and that's why you need entrepreneurship and a variety of options, so that if the most qualified person gets fired they can compete against their former employer and beat them. Hey now that's racist talk! but seriously, there are attempts made. The biggest issue I find is the media selectively picking which black tragedy to exploit. Speaking of which Chris Rock Bring the Pain and Never Scared are some of our all time favorite stand ups.
  20. I'm not talking specifically about your background but more of the general views on this topic. If you care to share something specific we could learn more as everyone is different and have very unique life experiences. I'm mostly trying to understand where you're coming from rather than speak for you, it just seems as an outsider that you had your sights set in a very competitive field and that might have shaped your views. That was me at one point, I had my eyes set on one particular field and after failing I found other avenues along the same lines that I actually enjoy more. Again, one of the reasons why I love this country's wealth of opportunities I don't know about your particular field and the era that you come from my own workplace and former college experience there's a wealth of knowledge online that people pursuing performative jobs can benefit from. E.G: A graphics designer or a welder isn't strictly defined by their academic record as much as they are by their portfolio or their job skills. There are a lot of world class artistic talents that made into the top of the game industry without a degree, because they can do the job better than those that went to college for it. There's no one size fits all I find the overwhelming trust in statistics a bit disingenuous, for one what we usually get is an interpretation of statistics rather than the raw data or the full picture with alternate studies. I say that anecdotally bad jobs are a dime a dozen and the former trucker is now working at a supermarket. You can't measure low skilled labor the same way you measure careers. BTW, what are your thoughts on a preponderance of anecdotes, so much that they can be considered statistics? You can have reliable data; like numbers of firings, but there are also nuances specific to each sector that can only be contextualized through anecdotal data.
  21. Nope, but just after reading the summary it seems right up my alley. Thanks.
  22. See that's my problem with "making it", it is such a nebulous term that it just means nothing. My favorite definition of success comes from Dave Chappelle when talking to his father "If I can make a teacher's salary doing comedy, I think that's better than being a teacher." Rags to riches isn't the norm but is the cultural definition for a lot of people. For my part I was arguing against the idea of systemic racism being the only form of racism. People like to throw big terms to lend credence to their argument without understanding. They will say systemic when it really just meant that they were acting in aggressive manner and everyone reacted. The biggest problem I see with black culture is how little they hold each other accountable for bad behavior. That however might be just black celebrities that are protecting their image. My take is simple, who are black people most likely going to listen to: Black people or White people? Black Americans have a bigger impact on black communities simply because they gone through some of those experiences and have a better understanding of how to communicate to them. I remember Kevin Hart (I think it was the Joe Rogan Podcast) talking about how the best way to help youth in these afflicted neighborhoods is by having people that can speak to their life experience. Making it out through sport or entertainment is only the most visible way. If you get a black lawyer or a black business owner to do community outreach, that will have a great impact. It is just that the most visible black role models are in sports or entertainment. Look, I don't live in one of this state so my views come from far away observation and second hand anecdotal evidence. I watch a lot of Youtube and form my views from both the fact that a lot of Tubers living in these states have spoken about the subject of high taxes as well as seeing through my workplace people that have left these states. With Joe Rogan, Elon Musk and others quite visibly leaving California because of the conditions of the place, as well as all the strange problems borne out their policies. It paints a picture of States with a high cost of living whose extremely ideological policies have devastated their States. A good example would be how California Green policies contribute to the yearly wildfires because of their refusal to do controlled fires. They also are experiencing rolling blackouts because of their switch to exclusive solar power sources. People that I know that live there are very much looking to move.
  23. To be fair politics, history, philosophy and academic books are quite tend to be quite verbose and meander with abstractions rather than with concise example. That might be why the most successful academic books tend to be the ones with analogues and metaphor or those that have clear real life examples. They can be quite tough to get without projecting your own experiences to the subject. That's mostly why I skipped the last chapter of the Leviathan but I'm thinking that it would be interesting to go back to it because I'm now more familiar with the English civil war and have a better background on that chapter....I suppose I should explain it deals with the Ecclesiastic and their authority...and that the English Civil war was fought because taxes and other economic reasons but as any other war it was framed as religious, I mean I'm sure it contributed but I'm also sure that modern revisionism helped emphasize that aspect
  24. @Gromnir Sorry to hear about your hardship I however don't believe that you were one mistake away from "making it", that's a dubious definition of success. It is true for scholarships and it is true of your chosen field. But what I like about the US is the wealth of opportunity, people that didn't go to college have become successful and not just in entertainment but in business, journalism and other reputable professions. Right now there are a lot of industries that are turning away from colleges because of the poor education of graduates compared to someone the same amount of job experience without a college degree. Trade schools are becoming a better option, specially since they have lower costs and teach marketable jobs. Tomas Sowell was my introduction to the argument that the welfare state might be doing more harm than good to black America and I would add Hispanics as well. I've known people that used to work but are now living off welfare because it is more profitable than work. I've formerly knew of people that tried to get into welfare because the whole family was working 2 jobs. The only times they saw each other was the few hours they had each night and whenever they were working the same job. They got denied because of their hard work ethic, when their original intent was to at least quit one job so they could have something resembling a regular life. Meanwhile at the same job I would see people that were well of and clearly had money using EBT cards because they had either payed someone to adjust their application or because their recent immigrant status even though they were wealthy. A bit on context of the video (since it won't embed) a woman uses EBT cards to buy lobster for her dog at Publix, which is a pretty ubiquitous chain here in S. Florida. The aforementioned family both worked at Publix with me. I know this whole has been anecdotal and it might be a regional thing (Florida is the most corrupt state in the Union) but it has tremendously affected my view of welfare programs and how much we should favor alternative solutions to poverty. https://youtu.be/zGmQAF84tww
