  1. The reason he looks dead-ish is because he's some kind of Fade entity (probably) weirdly bound to the body of a dead mage. And he won't be romanceable in the slightest, because he basically has the mental outlook of a child and Gaider has explicitly said multiple times that a romance involving him would be foul and repellent. Just to dispel a little bit of the ridicule. Is a Bioware game, if they reveal a chair companion the first question always is "Will it be romanceable?" I'm starting to get the feeling that Gaider is overly protective of his characters which kind of compounds with the point that Grommir made about BW games being very safe. So their "dark" characters have the same edge as a cartoon villain. Which is not an accurate depiction since I've seen many cartoon villains that manage to be evil, creepy,ect without wearing a baby's skull around their neck (although if they could pull that off major props, since a baby's skull isn't fully formed and whatnot) It all just feels as when that kid who hasn't gotten all they way out of childhood tries to project his/her problems onto cartoons and we end up with a drawing of a Goth Sonic the Hedgehog. So knowing the self imposed limitations that BW places on themselves I can't feel all that excited about edgy characters reveal, specially when I know they are going to try and make them likable even when they're just psychotic. Is like trying to make Ramsay Bolton likable.
  2. IDK, Vince Vaughn did a pretty good job as a villain in "Domestic Disturbance". I can't count him out as a serious actor just yet.
  3. Sometimes I wonder whether someone should point out to BW that they should really stick with a tone throughout the story rather than going from G R R Martin to Josh Whedon. But then we get hilarious cringeworthy characters like these that is like telling the "special" kid that he's just a retard. I just don't have the heart.
  4. When I heard that I thought that they were blowing it out of proportion. I'm pretty sure they can get investors on board, and they will get more support if they change their subscription plan. But if Nintendo has managed to make terrible decisions and stay afloat so can Crytek too; although that's mostly due to competition being dead. While Nintendo has certainly made some bad decisions, they've also hit some massive home runs. Past runaway successes, like the DS, have given Nintendo quite a healthy cash reserve to fall back upon during hard times. I don't know if Crytek has ever had that type of crazy money making success, or if they'd been smart enough to sock some money away for a rainy day. Quite frankly CryTek seems to be one of those companies that you don't hear a lot from, they just seem to disappear for a while. Still, I doubt that one blunder(Ryse) is enough to make them go under. Plus they still have a few major contracts (Ubisoft for example) they don't make enough games that would justify a massive expenditure. Its quite possible that they are able to break even.

  7. I know, I downloaded all that stuff yesterday. Research purposes really, I happen to be of the opinion that sharing techniques to make game will make for better games across the industry and it will allow others to refine said techniques. If only publishers would stop treating game development like if it was a national secret, I mean is not like they're doing anything new or like they don't copy each other with zealot devotion. Is like the same guys meeting week after week at a public bathroom to jerk each other through glory holes but they pretend that they're doing it to random strangers. A circlejerk is what i'm saying.

  9. No true geek would treat their comics like that. Not sure about that...they are all 90s comics, fairly easy to find at the moment, as the vast majority of those probably had large print-runs due to the speculator market. Besides their resell value is only worth noting if one plans to sell them. It's just a bunch of Image comics, either she didn't want to ruin her good comics by laying on them or she has **** taste. Either way no X-Men, no deal.

  11. And we go back to the same question of who Ubisoft's demographic is? Not their target audience but the people actually buying their games and it they are mostly male. Is like the saying two birds on the hand or one on the bush, when you're making a multimilion dollar production you tend to try to minimize the risk by doing your best to ensure a return. Spending that risk on the hope that women will buy your game (a demographic that while it has grown it still is a minority on AAA) the question was always, "how to get women into AAA games?"Besides from the risk that would making a women's only game, there is the fact that we have no idea of what that would be or whether it would be well received. Feminists seem to think that they deserve a 100 million dollar shot in the dark because equal representation is a right (not really, but we've ran out of things to champion)
  12. Every movement you mention in your post to Mamoulian had a clear purpose in mind, they weren't after abstractions they had a goal in mind. Gathering support was crucial to reaching that goal, but gathering support without a clear goal is just a rabble. That's what most people see when they look at SJW; rabblerousers and malcontents who rage towards established notions simply because they think theirs are better. Had they actually used all that publicity to gain some traction on a cause they might had gotten somewhere, yet it seems only the opportunistic made use of the movement's for their own benefit. I have said this before; if they asked for more games geared towards women rather than criticizing (an inherently hostile act) games that are not, they'd have less infamy and probably at the very least a few games exclusively for them. As for my personal opinion on it: I'm currently in debt from one of those college game programs that are nothing more than a con,I 'm taking a series of menial 3D related freelance jobs because there are very few openings in the game industry and it is thought to get into(they ask for experience you cannot get without working in the industry). On my free time I get to work on a game i'm currently trying to develop with some off my former classmates(since they're in the same situation). For years I heard about big name publishers terrible working conditions that drove all the talent away, I saw less game being made because of bloated budgets, corporate practices that were clearly driving the industry to the ground. So my opinion about Feminism complaining about women being misrepresent is simply this:"**** them! You can come and suffer through all this and then make the ****ing game you want. I ain't going through all this **** to please you. Because you clearly didn't give two ****s about game developers before; which I don't have a problem with, they free to do as their like. But now that you want something you're all complain about how it should be given to you. **** those spoiled brats and their entitlement issues!" Sorry about the rant and the cursing, I really needed to get that off my chest and is in no way directed to you and only somewhat related to the topic but it is where I stand.
  13. I'm not being cynical, I am just saying what I've observed. Journalist very clearly had something to said about the lack of women in AC or otherwise the question would had never been asked that prompted Ubisoft's response that has caused so much uproar. They could had simply acted maturely about it and never outright claim that Ubisoft is lying, normally that is not something a respectable journalist would do without concrete proof.(but then again games journalism isn't really respectable or journalism) As for the effectiveness of raising issues it can be summarize as this: "If I pretend to give a **** would you shut up?", that's the level of commitment they've gotten from publishers. You've annoyed them into acknowledging you, congratulations all around. As for what they get more right than wrong, all theories sound right until proven.
  14. Yeah, the outrage here is the way Ubisoft shot themselves in the foot and then just continued to saw off the leg. But hey, it's easier to just say "women should just shut the f**** up", so here we are. I'm not saying in any way, shape, or form that is what you have been saying, Calax; but the general message has been distorted in order to just simply rag on them females. OTOH, I get the feeling that journalist were out for blood after seeing that "AC: Unity didn't have no women"(something that could easily be patched in or given as a free DLC) and decided to make them suffer for it. Quite frankly this whole thing (the entire SJW crusade) is just childish and counterproductive, they been at it for years and all they've got to show for it is how many people they've grieved. Or how many grandstanding praise was given for little to nothing done.
  15. Suppose they do pay attention to it and indeed they realize that the majority of their audience is male; because let's be clear, these are not womankind crying outrage. It's game journos that have long jumped into the SJW bandwagon and are pushing their views irregardless. These people have the flexibility of the Inquisition, there's a problem because there has to be one. If there are no women, then that's a problem and if there are women then they are being misrepresented. As I've said before, feminist are free to jump into the ring and create their own games. Journos seem keen to give attention to pet projects that conform to their ideals, why I would have never know about Depression Quest if it wasn't for them. I guess there just aren't enough women choosing to make games, wonder whose fault that is?
