RANDOM VIDEO GAME NEWS - FREE WHITE HOUSE MONTAGE
mkreku replied to Blarghagh's topic in Computer and Console
Far Cry 2 looks so good on paper, as they took the reactivity straight from the Cry Engine and continued in the same vein (seriously, go play Crysis to see what Crytek was up to at the same time). But actually playing the game.. I guess whoever made that video forgot how utterly broken the actual game is. You're hunting collectibles in an ever respawning world. You have a vague map that's somewhat difficult to use so you will go the wrong way quite often. Every time you do you will run into outposts and angry drivers. These angry drivers never give up. Ever. They will drive their crappy little car way faster than you no matter what kind of super car you are driving and they will ram you off the road. Every time. Happens every three minutes. Guess how long before that gets old? Two and a half minutes. The outposts respawn instantly. Not fast, instantly. You clear an outpost, take the wrong way 100 meters and turn around. Lo and behold, the outpost is back, exactly like it was. All those 'cool' animations you saw? Built-in lag. It's NOT cool to see your character dig a bullet out of his arm the one hundredth time. Trust me. It just takes unnecessary time after the first few viewings. I played Far Cry 2 to completion and while it's a decent game, the Far Cry series did get better, even if reactivity went down. May not look as fancy in a video but there's a difference between video footage and actually playing the game. -
I'm on an LG OLED 4k, and I can whole-heartedly recommend it. It's difficult to go back to a normal TV after that.. Anyhow, I also finished Assassin's Creed: Origins. Took me 92 hours and I even killed all the war elephants and won all the arena events. The only thing I intentionally left were the chariot races because I didn't like them. At all. Very good game all in all though. So much to see, so much to do. I also thought the side-quests were generally excellent and tied in with the main quest quite elegantly. I had no problem blocking so for me it was working as intended. You can't just hold the block button or the enemies will start hitting you with block breaking moves (yes, even low level enemies). Dodge, evade and block, not just block. I also finally finished a playthrough of Rise of the Tomb Raider that I started before Christmas. Funny thing is that I had actually stopped playing that game with 98% done and basically only the end battle left, without knowing it. It took me longer to get my bearings in that game again than it took me to 100% it. I'm guessing next up on the list is an old playthrough of Shadow of Mordor that I have left hanging a while ago. It's just that I had my fun with the fighting system in that game and after that stopped being fun.. well, it feels like a drag to actually finish the story. We'll see.

I'm on a game completion spree so I thought I'd finish up Assassin's Creed: Origins. Turns out that's easier said than done.. I'm enjoying myself but damn is it longer than I thought. I've already spent 72 hours on it with no end in sight. Damn good game though. One of the prettiest games I've ever played too.

Source? And yes, much better test. And again it seems to not affect performance. Feel free to source all those claims that bad performance comes from Denuvo. -

I know you're supposed to hate Ubisoft (and that Ubi..something app you have to install to be able to play the games) but I love Far Cry. I own every single one of them. Some even in Collector's Edition (my most stupid character flaw, I can't stop buying them, send help) Definitely getting this. Collector's Edition (SEND HELP) -
Weird. Because I think it's easily the best looking Assassin's Creed game so far. It's actually so pretty that I've enjoyed the built-in camera feature, and that's definitely a first for me.

I don't even know why they let me choose my own outfits in games.. (Watch_Dogs 2, it's pretty good) -

I thought this was interesting. CI Games removed Denuvo from Sniper: Ghost Warrior 3 so DSOGaming took the time to actually test how this affected the performance of the game. Loading times changed (unconfirmed being Denuvo or the patch itself). Performance impact? Zero. See, resident board idiots? Instead of blaming all the bugs and performance issues in the world on Denuvo, how about you actually test it first? I reached a new personal best in Path of Exile, as I took my wimpy life leeching Deadeye (subclass of the Ranger) up to level 74 and then promptly died because I suck. But at least I've gathered a reasonable amount of leveling gear now so when I restarted last night I got up to level 43 within a few hours. Also, I managed to get far enough to unlock the second to last Labyrinth (the labyrinth is a randomized zone where you can find special skill points for your subclass, it's also very good for leveling up quickly) so now I have the potential to reach much higher levels. I also bought new inventory tabs so I can store all my completely useless unique items. I'm not joking, I've never played a game with so many useless uniques, and the ones that are useful never drops. Just as it should be. I love this game.

So, I found these: https://wccftech.com/review/monster-hunter-world-hd-hunter-simulator/ Monster Hunter World review from WCCFtech, 9.5/10 and http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2018-01-25-monster-hunter-world-review Monster Hunter World review from Eurogamer, Essential (they have a weird scale) Anyone played any Monster Hunter games? I mean, I will still be waiting 6 months before I (potentially) play it since that's the delay for the PC version, but seeing these extreme scores still piqued my interest. -

RANDOM VIDEO GAME NEWS - 'NON-FAKE-NEWS EDITION'

I don't care about the shovelware, good stuff floats up to the surface eventually. But I do agree that Steam feels less than exciting now. New releases are more expensive than ever (much more expensive than boxed retail versions in Sweden), the games keep their initial prices longer (retail is already at half price when several titles are full price on Steam) and the sales seem to be getting worse. That might just be an effect of me already owning all the games I want though. -
What is your game of the year for 2017?
mkreku replied to SonicMage117's topic in Computer and Console
I've played two games more than anything else this year, Elex and Ghost Recon: Wildlands. -
The Pro is really only worth it if you have a 4k HDR TV.
-
Fallout 4 plays a hundred times better than Fallout: New Vegas. I'm not even sure what it is, but it feels so much better gameplay wise.

Still playing Elex. I'm stuck on this stupid puzzle. I can't seem to find pieces 2, 6 and 7 and I've looked everywhere. Which probably means I've been to the places where they are hidden but missed them anyhow. I managed to find all the photographs on my own, but I am sooo close to using help for these last three pieces. At least I found the Sewer Rats questline while searching for these stupid map pieces, so that was a plus. -
And naturally every performance problem you have on your GT1030 running Assassin's Creed is the fault of Denuvo. No further evidence needed!!
-
I loved that game and played it to completion. It does get repetitive after a while, but I still loved it. --- I'm still playing Elex and I'm up to the point where I can join any faction I want (and I accidentally destroyed a town on my way there). But I don't want to! I mean, the choices I have are: Red tapers (berserkers): you get magic but you're bound by rules and laws Brainwashers (clerics): you get technology but uh.. brainwashing **** (outlaws): you get freedom but all they care about is profit These factions almost makes me wish I could go back to being an Alb.

I'm not sure but I think this weapon might be special.. -
The first few hours of Elex really kicked my ass. I was dying left and right, until I remembered how to play a Piranha Bytes game: run away and exact revenge later. So I've been dodging scary creatures and solving quests (I also forgot that in PB games, quests have a fail state!) and after a while it clicked. Suddenly I was able to take down a raptor.. then a bunch of raptors.. then Albs.. and so on. Not without struggles (I still die from time to time) but I'm getting there. It's sooo satisfying when you notice your character getting stronger. I'm a melee fighter using mainly swords and thinking about joining the assho.. uh outlaws. Yeah, it's rough and unforgiving and difficult and I wouldn't want it any other way.

I love how Hoonding and I have chosen such separate paths in life (Elex): Here I'm tea-bagging my first troll.. wearing my rags and leather pants. -

Guys, I might need help.. -
Played the first two hours of Elex. Absolutely loving it. The added verticality is something I've been asking for since the original Gothic (which had free-form climbing instead of a jetpack) and it's marvelous. Everything gets another dimension when you can look at it from above. But holy hell am I rusty! The first thing that killed me? Falling off a cliff. I'm so used to having my hand held that I forgot that some games let you slip off an edge two minutes into the game and punish you with death.
-
Might not have been my wisest purchase.. Anyhow, installing right now. Will be playing.. in two hours or so after it has chewed through all 5 DVD's. Oh, and Dying Light is absolutely fantastic and if you wish for faster zombies you're a masochist and need help. Edit: Christ my desk looks dirty! I swear it looks black in normal light!
