  1. You need to get permission from the person you're prank calling before you broadcast it. If you don't get permission, it's against the law, So if two employees are told by their boss to break the law and go ahead with it, then they shouldn't lose their jobs according to you? I do this a lot myself, but let's not try to assume that the law, especially regarding privacy questions such as you just mentioned here, is the same everywhere.

  4. In an attempt to move away from buxom beauties with hourglass figures, only the gaming industry could create a setup which is actually a lot more patriarchal than the original setup of attractive women kicking ass like a boss.
  5. Another example of this and "non-romance dynamics" (and romance dynamics, to a degree) were the needy friends and girlfriends from GTA. Simialr feelings with me, if I want to go out and cause mayhem with friends, I'll just do it in real life. If I want to beat people up with a purple ****, I'll buy saints row 3 (which I did).
  6. By actually going into the engine and ripping out all legacy win95 stuff and trying to make it take advantage of current tech. They say they had no idea how many oddities were hard-coded there and how many things that shouldn't be connected turn out to be. Simply, bg1 code was a mess that, incredibly, worked and untangling that mess broke a lot of stuff. I have no reason to doubt them, certainly as they demonstrated their ability to fix stuff up until this last episode. Honestly, that sounds like bollocks. The people that made a working game made a "mess" but those that "untangled" it broke it. If they got it working later, that basically means Deathdealer is right - they just kicked it out of the door prematurely. If I get the itch to play BG again, I might get it - but only on a drastic sale. I'm not a coder by profession, but having read their longer explanations of it, it seemed plausible to me based on what I know. I mean, what are the alternatives, they broke **** just for the fun of it? And of course it was released too soon, what isn't. There explanation is feasible, I agree with Nep Of course you could also argue that they didn't have Developers who were skilled enough to fix or address the historic issues with the code I am a software consultant and I have seen customers spend money and resources rewriting archaic Mainframe API because there was a need. It can be done but of course the company needs the money and resources. Actually, I think it was mostly a question of time/budget than coding skill, they had no idea of the state the code was in before they started and their one (1) engine guy was swamped. Again, just shows that this wasn't exactly a shining example of preproduction/budgeting (original plan was to make an HD version, contracts were designed on that basis, only then it's discovered that original assets have disappeared), more than anything else.

  9. No. There are Dire Wolves in the first area the PC ends up in that can kill Warrior classes on a lucky roll and is almost certain to kill anyone else. They are pretty hard to hit and quite tough too, so unless you get very lucky or have a party of characters who are at least specialized with ranged weapons, they will most likely kill you if you are playing on normal difficulty. Things do flow better after level 3, but levels 1 and 2 are insanely difficult. It's compounded by the fact that the power differences between the early levels are massive, ie. level 1 = unkillable, level 2 = doable, level 3 = faceroll.

  11. I'm more interested in the way Deep Silver/Koch Media is suddenly popping up constantly on my radar, first with the saints row/volition business, this and probably a few things I'm forgetting.

  13. Yeah and it makes me laugh But I would say we are all in agreement that GTA is the superior game ????? Than SR? Hell to the no. I share this opinion Saint's Row 3 had a nice variety of interesting vehicles, including VTOL jets that fired lasers. And the missions provided variety too. Every GTA I've played was just lots of the same from beginning to end. I felt vice city had enough variety in its missions, but, yeah...

Well, in a technical sense, you don't have to work for a company that "fails to provide a safe workplace" even if it gets a lot more vague when you are dealing with the mental aspect as opposed to physical of "safe". I still don't think her case is wholly without merit or even absurd - partially because of my extreme suspicion towards journalists and especially their need to sensationalise court cases. Nep explain to me again why she can claim the company failed to provide a safe work place? A safe workplace for who and what has this got to do with the fact they chose to make a hoax phone call. I honestly don't get it but clearly there is some legal precedent or she wouldn't be even attempting to take this legal action? Eh, I have no specifics of the case or even how that particular (almost universal) rule is interpreted there, but I'd say that if it's station policy to make those kinds of calls and then leaving individual employees to carry the (emotional etc.) burden in public, perhaps even claiming to fire them while, in fact, secretly offering them new positions in the firm, it would definitely qualify as a "hostile work environment" where you couldn't be reasonably expected to work. I've been picked on by slightly more senior co-workers envious of my advanced degree to the point where I got arrhythmia, so I can sympathise to a degree. Again, this is pure speculation on my part, based on personal experience that few lawsuits are as frivolous as they are made to be in media.

  16. Actually, the illusion primarily around here is that an open plan is cheaper. Let's not forget the place where I worked had meetings where you determined who's responsible for the minutes _after_ the meeting, so everybody had to be a busy little squirrel making notes. So it's about control and terror with a side of "cheep!" for the ones who pay the bills. I'm so glad I got out, even if I miss my pay check.

I was agreeing with everything but you lost me at the last two sentences.If R* still feels activities like tennis are what players want how is it any different from the virtual friends circle of GTA4? Said "virtual friends circle" was the actual reason I stopped playing. I have real friends, and they are a lot less needy than those guys.

  20. While I don't mind a woman with tattoos, those do not look very good. She is really pretty and clearly someone intelligent which is generally a must for me when I meet ladies when I am sober but those tattoos also don't do it for me at all. And as Hurlshot said it does detract from her natural beauty I've always liked ladies with a bit of ink, I suspect it's because I like to read in bed. (Or it's because I'm a straight-laced **** with a thing for bad girls)
  21. Pulling a product due to unpaid royalties would seem like a strange response to me, but the fact that Atari's still selling it through Steam (and thus retaining their most profitable way of distributing it) makes it somewhat plausible.

  25. Guess: prank was actually approved at a higher echelon and djs were left holding the bag. Other one was taken quietly back in, but this one's looking for a settlement for being the scapegoat.
