Saddam used up most of what he was given from the US in the Iran-Iraq war. The rest was probably destroyed prior to the US invasion. Regardless he never intended to use them against the US, and was personally at odds with the Al Kaida leadership and thus posed absolutely no threat to the United States. In fact he was as close to a potential ally as one could expect of a middle east leader regardless of the gulf war. His only occupation was staying in power, (in which the WMD would be a trump card, if there were any) not grand designs on the destruction of the US. He was also much more moderate than the religious fundamentalists that sprung up in the subsequent power vacuum. There is no reasonable way to justify the invasion and occupation of Iraq. And there is no connection whatsoever between September 11 and Iraq. Rather the only country that can be unquestionably linked to S11 is Saudi Arabia. The US attacked and decimated a country to secure its natural strategic resource for their own gain. This is neither hidden nor difficult to see.

The Witcher is a monster/bounty hunter by trade, it makes more sense to have that type of quest in that game then it does in most others. They weren't representative of anything which LostStraw pointed out already. Yahtzee's perspective is limited to the genre's he likes thus the only thing the video shows is his ineptitude. He should stick to what he knows.

Actually the general consensus amongst gamers (as far as it could be singled out) was that the game is repetitive crap. Its only the reviewers who were raving about it, and only because it was a very expensive game to make. As I understand it, do one mission and you've seen the entire game.

I can't believe people fall for this wankery.

If none of them can cook your dinner for you, I'd say it doesn't matter either way.

I just made a Steam account, yaay. Now why the hell are prices so insanely high? I can find a physical copy of many of those games for a smaller price...

Btw, obsession doesn't excuse you from writing up a review on Machinarium.

Just finished torchlight. Best action RPG I played since Diablo (Divine Divinity excluded), very addictive. It was a breeze on hard up until the last 3 levels where I started dying like crazy. The last boss was bloody hard, or rather would have been if I didn't just spam resurrect at the entrance to the area. Even so the damn thing has a ton of health and it was a chore to kill him. Flaws: enchanting mechanic (spammable to obscenity), sometimes there's such an overload of color on screen its impossible to see where youre clicking and the unique items are tad too far and few inbetween. Overall verdict: very good, in its genre. Playing now: Machinarium, first impression - wonderful (its nice to be reminded once in a while that playing computer games isnt a total waste of life)

So typical of Maria. I actually switch my brain on for a moment and write a reasonably articulate post and she just disappears. Even Volo doesn't disappear without attempting to incite a flame war. What's the world coming to. *shakes head*

You should, its good for you.

How I wish someone would do a remake of Alpha Centauri. Just add some functional 3D graphics and keep everything else intact...

SquareEnix is making the cutscenes, I'm half expecting it to be filled with lolitas. WHAT! Your not Boo. Begone. There are no other RPG's to play (in like the entire first half of 2010) and I need mah fix... Dunno about JA3, I just saw it on the list. I think its more than a year away, yes.

Not really unless you're talking about romances for female PC's (which is possible since I don't play them). As far as male romance options are concerned the 3 in BGII haven't yet been matched let alone surpassed. (though I cannot confirm this for DA, I don't know what the romances are like there)

*disregard*

Indeed. Nothin escapes this girl. I was kidding back there (mostly) but since you seem so keen on the subject of video game relationships here is what I have to say on it. Actually, I was pretty much satisfied with the fade to black approach of BGII since the romance (Jaheira) that led up to that point was fulfilling. The "sex" was just a part of it, and to be frank - the least important part (I had no idea that there would in fact be sex, and I didnt care). With Mass Effect they "introduced" sex (visually), but there was no emotional attachment to the potential love interests at all. When there's nothing satisfying about the romance it becomes a game of choose-the-right-answer-to-get-in-my-pants. Since I'm not expecting anything better of ME2, I want the reward for the minigame to be a bit more interesting, (read: naked women) not a family friendly sex scene. In short: since they dont give a toss for my appreciation of an engaging romance, they might as well appeal to my base instincts. This desire comes out of the very very low expectations I have for this game, and their future games. I've nothing against exploring more relationships and pushing the limits of the sex taboo in computer games, as long as it doesnt tarnish the core playing experience (by being lackluster in some way). What I dont want to see is them putting in sex just because the Witcher is doing is, and because it sounded like a very "mature" idea at the time - and then when they finally shoehorn it in somehow it turns out to be meh. An unfulfilling relationship followed by unfulfillling sex is a lose-lose situation. (in life as well, lol) An engaging relationship followed by tasteful and graphic sex is a win-win situation. But if I had to pick just one of those, it would always be an engaging relationship, (Jaheira, Deionarra, Fall-from-Grace ) simply because of the role play potential.

If our society seems more nihilistic than that of previous eras, perhaps this is simply a sign of our maturity as a sentient species. As our collective consciousness expands beyond a crucial point, we are at last ready to accept life's fundamental truth: that life's only purpose is life itself. * Chairman Sheng-ji Yang, "Looking God in the Eye" Some would ask, how could a perfect God create a universe filled with so much that is evil. They have missed a greater conundrum: why would a perfect God create a universe at all? * Sister Miriam Godwinson, "But for the Grace of God" I shall not confront Planet as an enemy, but shall accept its mysteries as gifts to be cherished. Nor shall I crudely seek to peel the layers away like the skin from an onion. Instead I shall gather them together as the tree gathers the breeze. The wind shall blow and I shall bend. The sky shall open and I shall drink my fill. * Gaian Acolytes Prayer * Accompanies the Secret Project "The Weather Paradigm" ... SMAC's writing > all

Still far away from Geralt's "from peasant to godess" escapades. Wannabies.

Since Pidesco provided that convenient list I'll just draw up one of my own from the games provided there: -Starcraft II -JA3 (god it looks like crap) -C&C 4 (to see the end!) -Guild Wars 2 (perhaps) -Drakensang: The River of Time -North Star (wtf, is the likely reaction but the game has some serious pedigree) -Broken Hourglass (indie with good potential) -Dropship (ex troika guys!) -Gray Matter (Jane Jensen!) -Infinity: The Quest for Earth & Jumpgate Evolution & Black Prophecy (been looking for a space flight sim MMO that features real time combat for a while) -Subversion (from the makers of Darwinia, Defcon etc.!) -Mafia II -Deus Ex3 -Alien vs Predator -Max Payne 3 (though I think its gonna be a faliure) -Bioshock 2 -Alpha Protocol/ME2/Fallout NV
-
Of the major ones I missed the new Drakensang. Apart from that there's a handful of indie projects, and thats it. *sigh*

Am I sorely mistaken or are the only non action, non MMO RPG's that we can look forward to in the following year: Mass Effect 2, DA expansions, Alpha Protocol and Fallout:New Vegas? I've been looking through IGN and Gamespot and I can't find anything else...

Back on topic, it seems that combat enviroments are now larger. Perhaps that will actually lead to some tactical gunplay - flanking, sniping etc.
