  2. The gun shoots any object, not just teddy bears, kind of like the gravity gun in HL2, what's wrong with that? As far as Oblivion being already forgotten, it starts a flame war every time the name is mentioned, so I don't think so.
  3. RTS games would be one, military simulators another. It's tough for RPG combat to compete with a game that's dedicated to combat, although RPG combat should at least be fun. I play RPG's for elements other than combat, too much combat can actually get in the way.
  4. Thus my point stands, most PC games don't support the controller. And yes, I am sure about MEPC. Btw, there's nothing particularly special about their PC interface, it's just an improved version of the console one which they could've had to start with.
  5. But now there are much better tactical combat simulators, I've never seen an RPG I'd play just for the combat.
  6. HL2 is fantastic with a controller, but that wasn't the question. I also looked at Far Cry and STALKER, and I don't think those supported a controller either. I know Mass Effect on PC doesn't support a controller, even though it's a console port.
  7. Why is combat core RPG gameplay? To me combat is secondary.
  8. I wouldn't mind getting a few extra missions once in a while, nothing else really interests me as it should be in the game to start with.
  9. NWN2? Half-Life 2? Those are the only ones I tried.
  10. But is putting your blade skill in a minor slot and using it exclusively "breaking" the game? I'm playing completely within the system if I do that, given the rules that have been set forth. By the same token, someone who puts blade as a major but only uses it when they need to, is also operating within the rules. But you end up with 2 vastly different results: a character who has a 100 blade skill at level 2 or 3 and a character who has a 50 skill at level 11. Don't you think that is a bit of an issue? I'm not saying it's great design, just that it doesn't need to diminish your enjoyment of the game. It's pretty clear to me what the intended way to play is, and it's not having 100 skill at level 2. Plus you can select a pre-build class which is balanced for a certain play style. What Oblivion lets you do isn't that different from providing cheat codes or a debug console, so I don't see why people are constantly making such a huge deal out of it.
  11. @Crashgirl It's not broken unless the player decides to break it, and he certainly has that choice. As far as balancing, you balance it for the way it's meant to be played of course, i.e. playing without any exploits, making the skills you use most your major skills, letting leveling happen whenever you increase your skills enough, as intended. If that's not enough, there's also a difficulty slider.
  12. I wouldn't agree it fell apart in Oblivion. Not the best, most balanced system certainly, but perfectly workable.
  13. I'm all for free speech, and if it helps someone to vent, I guess it's OK. I'd just note though that constructive criticism is a lot more interesting for others to read than blind hatred of a game no one's played yet.
  14. If you don't like exploitation, then don't exploit it. You can build your character any way you like, I don't see why you'd be concerned that it might be the same as someone else's.
  15. Everyone knows the internet is powered entirely by preconceptions and seething hatred.
  16. That was the guided missile in DX:IW. It was awesome! That's kind of what I meant by introducing more tactics, at least that's one way of attempting that. Don't know how well it would work with a single character or a small party though.
  17. Just use a blank space instead, we'll figure it out.
  18. D&D type combat is OK at first because the challenge is figuring out how everything works. Once you figure that out, it becomes boring because you're just repeating the same things over and over. They can make the rules more convoluted and that presents a challenge for a while, but eventually you figure it out again. It seems to me the solutions are either to introduce more tactical considerations into rules based combat and force you to keep changing your tactics (hard to do) or go to more actiony combat.
  19. So it's confirmed? AP is the first ever GRPG? Oh, wait, that's almost the same as a JRPG!
  20. Oh, well, you're dreaming then. That means they have to provide you an upgrade path for that skill, everything has to be tested and balanced using that skill, players will get confused how you're supposed to play the game and complain it plays like crap, etc. I don't even know how you'd resolve battles when there're a lot of enemies. My prediction is it's not happening.
  21. Certainly they could add high auto-aim just like Mass Effect, for people who don't want to aim for whatever reason.
  22. May be it's because the first time I played it, I missed the entire second part of Onderon because of a bug, and almost missed the first part as well, so I had no idea why Tobin was there or what he was talking about.
  23. As I recall he says some things which assume you sided with Vaklu, but my recollection could be wrong.
  24. They also show up to help you on Telos, and you run into Vaklu's lieutenant on the Ravager, which makes no sense if you sided with the queen. I expect AP will be similar although hopefully a bit more involved and sophisticated.
