Yes, Brazil is far more democratic than the US. I just heard a report yesterday how in Brazil police don't bother to arrest criminals, they just execute them on the spot.

Heh. I suspect you're going to get Wrath of Dagon dropping by to tell you that you're wrong soon. Fact that Kadyrov fought against RF in the first war is well documented, as is the fact that he's on the official kremlin payroll. Oh yes, I certainly knew that. I'm just slightly amused because that ^^^ is pretty much exactly what I said, in the general case, a month ago and was told that I was wrong (and it was OT/ irrelevant, which it was in that thread so I didn't push it further). No, that's not what you posted.

I don't think you get to go around veiled in Russia, just an educated guess.

Healthcare in America
Doesn't really prove much, both parties now support Social Security and Medicare, or at least pay lip service to it. It's the difference between what's expected and what's new. Plus everyone loves getting something for free, even if it really isn't. Now a conservative supporting government paid maternity leave is indeed something else.

The war in Iraq will cost $900 billion this year? The Supreme Court so far is not disregarding the entire constitution, just the parts that have become inconvenient and unpopular. Of course eventually the whole thing can be thrown out, depending on future elections. As it says in our courthouse "Where law ends, tyranny begins."

Healthcare in America
Uprecedented? They've been doing it since FDR. Almost the entire Federal government is unconstitutional by now. Edit: Here's an article about rationing under Obamacare: http://pajamasmedia.com/blog/the-real-obamacare-fraud/ Well, it least it has some cost control. This is particularly disturbing though : '"Qualified plans" can contract only with a doctor who "implements such mechanisms to improve health-care quality as the [current or future] secretary [of Health and Human Services] may by regulation require"(Sec. 1311, p. 148-49).' Keep your filthy government hands off of my insurance. Edit2: Actually a lot of the stuff he claims as rationing is speculative, it's not in the healthcare bill. There's a link to the implementation timeline in that article : http://docs.house.gov/energycommerce/TIMELINE.pdf

Seconded. We don't need LOF in any sane thread.

Sounds like a great plot for a video game.

The reason get a lot of flak if they go too far in pushing creationism (or push it at all, for that matter) is because you have to be a complete and utter idiot to literally believe the bible creation story. It's not because "education is skewed to the left," it's because education is supposed to be teaching kids, to the best of our ability, truth. Anyone with half a brain knows that the bible creation story (or its renamed counterpart, "Intelligent Design") is scientific bull****. The only reason creationists get any recognition at all is because they tend to be very loud and obnoxious, and enjoy pushing their nonsensical beliefs on people who are actually interesting in learning how the world works. You either missed my point, or just spewing things at random. In the latter case, there's no need to quote me.

It went a long time ago.

Yeah, the rhetoric needs to be cooled a bit. The way some are talking is it's like the end of the world. Some of the more unstable individuals don't understand it's just political theater.

Nothing wrong with bringing a little balance, education has been skewed to the left for like forever. If someone goes too far in pushing creationism, etc, they tend to lose elections, even in conservative districts. I suspect Dunbar may be in trouble in the next election over Jefferson.

Interesting comment on climate change
Pretty much everything used as proof of global warming has now been discredited, the warmists really don't have a leg left to stand on.

How will I participate in the upcoming socialist revolution in the United States if I'm in Cuba? Think before you post. The problem with a socialist revolution in the US is that everyone is heavily armed, and the right wingers would kick your scrawny commie asses anyway.

I wonder if a due process argument can be made here. You're being fined without being convicted of anything, thus your due process rights are violated. Tenth Amendment is dead because of the abuse of the Commerce Clause, but due process is very much alive and is ever being expanded.

I don't know where you're getting the idea that this legislation would involve the government in purchasing medical care. It relaxes the standards for people to qualify for Medicaid somewhat, and sets up exchanges that people can use to pool risk and negotiate with private insurers to cover all of them, but doesn't actually set up new programs for federal purchasing of medical care and services. The exchanges will be overseen by the government, and government is "purchasing" in a way as they are subsidizing premiums. IMO, to achieve cost control there will have to be rationing, either through this bill or in future bill. As far as spending, we're so far underwater already this is like adding a tea cup to a pool. From the link I posted earlier.- Healthcare in America
So the penalty for not having medical is also an income tax, it's not like they throw you in prison. Really not so different from having to pay a lot more tax if you don't have a mortgage. The Feds can do whatever they want, it's settled law. I think it's unlikely a costitutional challenge will succeed.- Healthcare in America
Here's a summary of what's in the bill: http://finance.yahoo.com/news/A-look-at-th...set=&ccode= How is that different from requiring everyone to participate in Social Security? Federalism has been dead since FDR.- What are you playing now?
