  1. The difference is you either play for nothing or for real money, neither of which I'm interested in doing. In a game, you play for in-game money, which suddenly makes that activity meaningful. Ever play One-hit in Shenmue or Pazaak in Kotor?
  2. For the same reason we don't ban cars even though they are resposible for more deaths than anything except natural causes. It's a question of costs vs benefits.
  3. I love that they included gambling mini-games. I might just spend most of my playing time playing blackjack.
  4. There are some kids who tend to get into trouble, and some that don't. I'm concerned that even that those who don't will see this as a green light. It's just like if you make shoplifting legal, it's harder to convince a kid shoplifting is wrong. As far as clearing out prisons, I think possession is already a misdemeanor in most states, and it's already de facto legal in California, all you need is a note from a doctor that you have trouble sleeping or something. And it's not like all those drug dealers are suddenly going to turn into fine, upstanding citizens. They'll just find another illegal activity to engage in.
  5. But I'm saying it'll be an even bigger problem if it's legalized. I think you'll appreciate the issue more once your own kid reaches a certain age. No mattter how you try to bring him (her?) up, if the society is sending an opposite message you've got an uphill fight. If it's a major gateway drug, than it is a destroyer of lives. Even in limited use I believe it reduces a person's potential. If alcohol were illegal already, I would be against legalizing it, nor would I be against making it illegal.
  6. False argument, glue is even more dangerous when abused, yet we don't outlaw glue. Edit: All that's going to happen when pot is legalized is it'll get cheaper and more socially acceptable, more kids will get hooked and destroy their lives, and society will have more problems, not less. Edit2: Also, you can enjoy alcohol without getting drunk, you can't enjoy pot without getting stoned.
  7. Ironically, the best implementation of voiced protagonist I've seen up to this point was when I went into the Veil as Morrigan. The dialogue options gave me the clear intent of what she was about to say, while what she actually said very much matched her personality. Neither ME nor AP have succeeded as well IMO.
  8. Can't wait, I bet I'll have to solve some personal problems for them also.
  9. Good article: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/matt-ridley/...o_b_630792.html I remember the 70's, it's true, it was all gloom and doom.
  10. What Kotick is really saying is he'd like to be able to charge you subscription for playing COD online. It's not that they love PC piracy. Edit: What they really want to kill are not consoles, but single player games. They want everything online, to prevent piracy and get recurring revenue from subscriptions, the Holy Grail of the game publishers.
  11. The comparison with alcohol isn't really valid. Alcohol is actually beneficial if you don't get drunk but use it as another food. Pot harms both your brain and your lungs, but I guess that's what natural selection is all about.
  12. I didn't say Bioware has never been creative. And while Obsidian did make some sequels, they brought something new to all of them.
  13. A new proposal which seems to make some sense: http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0710/39432.html
  14. It's a lot easier to create huge levels when they consist entirely of long textureless walls.
  15. At least Obsidian tries to do something different. Bioware doesn't have a single creative thought in their collective brain. AP isn't so great that it has to have a sequel. The cancellation of the Aliens RPG was probably a far greater loss.
  16. Why? It's a Bioware-driven Star Wars MMO. That's three boxes ticked in the "money" category already. I don't like Bioware's games on the whole, but they're popular, and what you have in the making here is a way to cash in on three fanbases - and three different attractions to the game. I see this one running quite successfully, at least for a while. I've no intention of playing it, but most KotOR fans I know intend to at least try it. Hell, I imagine most gamers with an interest in Star Wars are going to at least try it. We ran a poll on KotORFiles, and even in the heart of the Revan fanboy world, over half the respondents were stoked for the MMO. And that's arguably where you'd expect the most resistance to the idea. I'm sure lots of people will try it, I just haven't seen anything that will keep them playing. I don't play MMO's though, so what do I know. But no one so far has been able to take on WoW.
  17. What superior games has AP ripped off? You still haven't told us what this fundamental flaw is.
  18. My prediction is the MMO will crash and burn. Bioware and LA said the MMO is a replacement for K3, btw.
  19. It's just not the kind of game a mainstream gamer will appreciate, fundamentally that's all there's to it. Sure if they polished it more it would get somewhat better reviews, and thus a few more sales, but I don't think it would ever become a big hit.
  20. I never expected otherwise. Although it's more the audience's fault than Obsidian's.
  21. I don't see how any of your proposals would make a dent in illegal immigration. As far as improving Mexican economy, that's what NAFTA was for. There's only so much others can do on behalf of someone else. The biggest thing keeping Mexico back is their corruption and drug trafficking, and securing our border would at least help with the drug trafficking.
