AvP banned in Australia because the developer refuses to censor it
They just released a patch that supposedly fixes the long waitings. Gonna try that out now.

Yeah, they probably did some milestones before Bethy finally signed the deal. Still, I'm not too confident. Kotor 2 was also based on a finished engine, after all...

FO:NV: The Return of Gameplay Mechanics Discussion
If I've got my info straight, F3 had about a year and a half of development time - principal production started when Oblivion was fully wrapped. Oblivion dropped in April 2007, Fallout 3 in late October 2008. They had a different team for the Oblivion addons. Pre-production of F3 started in 2004 I think when Beth aquired the license. F3 was definately a lot longer in development.

KotOR 2 only had 13 months. And when did Obsidian sign the deal with Beth? That was April 2009 I think. That makes 16-17 months development time.

So, I have now extendedly played the demo with all 3 races, and the more I play, the more I actually like it (and because I always win). The Marine feels at first a bit slow and clunky (increase mouse sensitivity in options to 100), but with his pulse rifle, he can waste even a Predator in no time. Sure he has no visual support, and a cloaked Pred can sometimes be really missed, but if you're not a total dumbass and have some basic shooter skills, I'd say the Marine is the most powerful dude in the game. The Pred isn't really that menacing, unless he gets his shoulder cannon or disc, then he becomes almost unstoppable. There's definately some balancing needed there. In melee, he's just about the same strength as an Alien. Playing as Alien is the most fun, even though the transitions from surface to surface it total garbage. Just use jump to get on the ceiling, it's faster. Alas, the demo map isn't really that great for using ceiling crawling. The best weapon is still speed. I love it when I rush behind some dude and use a power kill. It's very satisfying. From a technical point of view, AvP is very solid. Great graphics, great sound, great performance. But the matchmaking stuff just doesn't work currently, and the demo doesn't have a dedicated server either, so if you want to play, just join http://steamcommunity.com/groups/AVPI. Verdict: Solid fun, but nothing great. If the singleplayer is good, I'll prolly end up buying the game.

So, with roughly 1,5 years development time (just like Kotor2), will we get another unfinished game? Does Obsidian feel they can handle the planned scope in such a short time? But even then, an unfinished Vegas will prolly be better than Beth's F3 anyway.

I have only 3 words for this demo:

I like the new Logo. Is there any other information coming today? Or was the teaser all we got?

Let's also hope the world overall is smaller and "tyter" than in F3. That gives Obsidian more time to polish the content.

Movies you have seen recently
But three Austrians very nominated for Oscar, so they must be doing something right. Hope Christoph Waltz gets one.

Also watched this, and actually quite liked it. Bruce Willis is as cool as ever...

Animations are the least worry I have about NV. The game will probably use a lot of art assets and animations from F3, where applicable. Where the game hopefully will shine is writing, role-playing and memorable characters.

Was Jade Empire bad?
Well, it was a clicky-clicky fest then. I mostly didn't even bother slowing down the time, or using transform spells or any other options, as the game was so easy and enemies so quickly defeated that I only had to slash on with my sword. ME2 otoh actually forces me two switch weapons, and use some occasional feat/power/disruptor.
-
Was Jade Empire bad?
Nah. ME2 is the first Bio game where combat feels right. JE on the other hand was a mere button mashing fest. The story was also predictable, and I don't care much about role-playing.

Heavy Rain
Yeah, the controls and minigames were terrible. But the atmosphere and gameworld was pretty cool.
-
Heavy Rain
There's hope that Heavy Rain bombs hard and David Cage finally makes real games again. I still wanna see an Omikron sequel.
-
Was Jade Empire bad?
The biggest weakness of JE was the fact that Bio didn't exploit it's unique setting, but instead settled with average western stereotypes, including the characters.
-
Was Jade Empire bad?
Jade Empire was Bio's worst RPG. But overall still a good game, considering that Bio's worst games are still better than the best games of other companies.

Heavy Rain
That depends, if it will be Steam dependant It will, because that's what Sega now is doing with every PC release. Unless you buy the console version... Anyways... For those who missed out: Official homepage http://www.heavyrainps3.com/ There's also a demo coming out Feb. 11th. First reviews are very positive.

Mass Effect 2 Discussion
It is how it is. It was still a cake walk playing as a soldier.

Only heavy weapons. Otherwise, you have done something wrong. I always found plenty of ammo.

Feargus Urquhart interview
Ah, good to hear Fergi is still in shape and kicking.

Mass Effect 2 Discussion
No it wasn't. It actually forced you to drag your ass out of cover to get some ammo. That's deep tactics, dude.

Games you are looking forward to
Bioshock 2. Alpha Protocol Starcraft 2 I also heard there's a PC version of Cursed Mountain coming out next week. Will keep an eye on that.

Mass Effect 2 Discussion
ME2's combat is a big improvement over ME1's combat. Call it dumbed down or not, but at least ME2 doesn't try to shoehorn some half-assed "Action with RPG elements" into the game, like ME1 did. ME2 is now a competent 3rd-person action game. There's a cool story, too.
