Ran and Myao, episode 9. Uh...although there's been some subtle changes in our two main characters over the course of the show, this one in particular had some more prominent character development...and there was almost no attempts at humor at all except for just a little bit at the very bookends of the episode, which is a pretty big departure from the rest of the series. It was not...a fun episode, but it was the best one. Episode 10: All I wanna be...is someone who gets to see...a giant woman, a giant woman! On the other hand, if @majestic became the (anime) Joker, maybe he could finally beat some well-deserved sense into the currently terrible anime industry that is doing this crap to him...start a movement, get some heads rolling, get some better shows, .

Actually, I think I have seen that episode of Voyager. I've seen a small number of episodes of the original series (probably around 10), a great deal many episodes of The Next Generation, and probably like...a third of Voyager - but in random pieces spread throughout the entire show's run. It's funny that your favorite part of the series is SuperS...er, excuse me, StrikerS, . Man, it's too bad Crystal didn't do the right thing and make Makoto and Ami a couple so that it could confirm some of your long-held shipping beliefs, right? That would've been great. Well, hey, Crystal still has to cover the final arc, right? Hopefully Vivid will end this great run while being everything you've ever dreamed...

He didn't even guarantee a win over them, he just said they were going to beat them. I guess that sounds similar on the surface, but it's really not - I listened to him say it and it was just standard coach speak. It was a pretty stupid controversy.

Yeah, I really don't know if I can recommend it to you, because I don't know whether I should like it in the first place myself, even though I do. It's not fan service-y, but boy, it is so dumb in many other ways. The first episode especially was like "what in the world is this...". Still, it must be doing something right for me to like it...right? That, or I'm simply susceptible to a certain type of appealing garbage - either way, . Episode 7 of Kitten Samurai: The first 5 minutes of this episode were Myao trying to get the attention of a handsome samurai flying a kite on a beach. Why is he flying a kite? Well, that's what she wants to know - turns out, it's because he's a little bit of a scientist as well, and is trying to collect the energy of a lightning bolt from the kite into some sort of contraption he's made. He tries to explain how lightning works to Myao, but it's futile because she's simply too dumb - she keeps trying to relate basic concepts that she does know to the things he's saying, but literally everything she thinks is all wrong. The next scene is of her then trying to explain electricity to Ran and saying it's essentially a miracle solution for everything, . (e): Episode 8 of Sake Hunter Ran: Myao broke her neck. ...As you can see. Yup, that's the episode premise.

The Switch Thread
I had an opportunity to purchase an OLED Switch, but we don't really use the one we have undocked for various reasons + if I personally want to play a Switch game, I usually just emulate it instead. So it's kind of like...what's the point? Now if you were in the market for a Switch right now and it was available (i.e. you), that would make a lot more sense, .

I think "family" movies are pretty much the definition of cinematic trash - throwing in a literal cartoon character does nothing to change that, . It was totally trash, it just...wasn't particularly offensive or aggravating trash! The last interview I ever saw with him was when he was at some awards show some years back and was completely off the walls out of his mind and insisting that nothing or nobody actually existed and everyone was simply characters in his mind or something. Anyone know if he's, uh, doing better?

Classic anime. Don't remind me of how some people insist that everything between Chibi-Usa and Pegasus is totally cool because technically she's hundreds of years old or whatever, so ignore her appearance and the fact that she's obviously a 10~ year old in pretty much every way. Also, introducing a new character via a drama album and expecting your viewers to know all about them is hilarious.

Believe it or not, it's...not completely terrible. It's not GOOD, of course, but once you deal with the fact that it's obviously primarily made for children, it's...it's mediocre for the most part, with some actually decent parts and only a few groan-worthy parts. I've unfortunately watched way worse actual literal children's entertainment...but I've also watched plenty better, too. Year? I don't know what "The Game" is...or if I do, I can't think of what, .- The Cinema and Movie Thread

Oh blast, I should've known that. Nanoha is only...well, what you said - not nearly as bad. Phew, good thing you didn't start Pretty Cure, then. The Lexx one feels a little mean-spirited with no context, even though my assumption is that you wouldn't put a quote of that nature in your signature unless you at least didn't hate the person in question, . https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/s/8b6idgr3eihnhpu/AxAquIN22g.mp4 I do so love editing a million things into my posts after-the-fact, .- Anime and Manga - < To Be Continued I \ I /
Episodes 5 and 6 of Meow & Ran: Men are completely and utterly worthless in this show. I'm O.K. with that, given that it's obviously a semi-girly play on these kinds of male-dominated swordplay/martial arts action shows, . I don't really have any major complaints about the show (besides that it's perhaps just as formulaic as Sailor Moon is even with some mild twists and turns, ) and I've kinda grown to like these two dummies even as oddball as they and this show are, so I guess I'll be finishing the show for sure.- Coronavirus 666: The Number of the Delta Variant (but in an entirely scientific context)

Episode 4: Myao ("meow"?), the retarded martial artist, is on the road and starving to death, comes across a traditional Shinto shrine, appears to pray to the Christian god for sustenance and gives the offering box her last coin, then realizes her error in stupidly giving up her last coin when she could've at least bought SOMETHING to eat with it, kicks open the offering box in a rage and then steals its contents...just so that she can find a map that was stuffed into the box by a man that had being chased and subsequently killed by bandits a little bit earlier precisely for said map. Yeah, it's that kind of show: trash! (e): Okay, actually, I posted too soon: this was surprisingly averted in a not trashy way - in fact, the entire episode was actually pretty good. Hm, maybe? At least unlike Nanoha, it doesn't have literally like 15 seasons and 40 movies or whatever it was that I counted out that one time - I probably wouldn't keep watching because while it's enjoyable enough as a chance of pace from other stuff, that wouldn't really be good enough to watch over the next 20 years of my life like you'll be doing with Nanoha, . See? I told you! Although from what you actually said about it, it was really just okay with a helping of sweet ambivalence. Big improvement over the previous disaster, though. Ick. At least Mari's just a gross character instead of a gross person.- Anime and Manga - < To Be Continued I \ I /
No, I'm probably going to finish it, mostly because...well, it is pretty silly trash, but it's also short and it's sort of my kind of trash, especially being animated by Madhouse and having female leads and everything. Not that either of said leads are...well, they're not making me want to slap myself silly unlike some other shows quite yet, let's leave it at that.- Anime and Manga - < To Be Continued I \ I /

Okay, actually, I think I've identified my issue: when you're simply describing how terrible the/a show is, I'm basically the yellow glasses guy meme the entire time. However, when you're describing what actually happened in the show, my face goes as blank as...oh, oh - pretty much exactly like Jay's face when Mike tries to describe an episode of Star Trek to him, . I guess I'm much more about how shows make you feel instead of what actually happened in them, probably because I'm going to forget what happened in them literally two seconds after I read what you wrote unless it's a show I've already seen or at least am interested in - meanwhile, the angry rants about how gosh-awful a show is stick with me a lot longer, . There's also the simple fact that trying to describe what characters are like or what they're doing is basically impossible to keep track of unless I am already familiar with said characters to some degree and have a concept of them in my head...and sometimes not even then, as Zoraptor just pointed out. Sailor Moon: I don't need to tell you, but it also must be at least a little bit because objectives have totally changed between now and then. Back then, if you were going to include a...different kind of character, you would typically want to do it as quietly and making it as least big of a deal as possible*. Treat them like any other character, thereby normalizing them, thereby not drawing attention to them. Simple, pretty easy, pretty realistic and normal. Today, you want to scream how PC your characters are to the heavens and all that will hear it because if you don't, people on the internet will brew up a massive crapstorm about you and your show. I'm unsure how much these crapstorms actually affect the bottom line of a show, but I guess it must be significant to some degree because it just keeps happening...endlessly. *Either that, or make a horrible punching bag joke out of them...which ethically is worse than what we have today, but I'm beginning to question which is worse/less enjoyable from my own viewer's perspective. Sailor Moon, obviously, did things right there (well, except for Michiru and Haruka eventually being turned into the big dumb for forced conflict reasons, but that's a totally independent issue to this, ).- The TV and Streaming Thread: Now up for syndication...
Yeah, I didn't get why the spoiler didn't just have a gif of a dog taking a crap either, really - weird choice, @majestic, . Real talk: I think majestic has proved to me that unless I actually care about a show, you can literally say the entire plot of an episode and I will not be able to mentally connect the dots from one paragraph to the next, because I simply cannot make my brain simply retain any information about a show that I care absolutely not at all about. Actually, having even more detail probably has the opposite intended effect - if it was just one or two paragraphs concerning the most outrageous bits, I could probably handle and make sense of that...but when you have 20 paragraphs about something I already ejected from my brain between now and the last time you talked about an episode, I lose the thread quite quickly. I have the bad brain. Do I dare ask what this even means in the context which you said it? Who is the intended audience of this show anyway? ...Actual aliens, perhaps?- Anime and Manga - < To Be Continued I \ I /
This poor cat just wants to get away from this crazy family, but they keep yanking him back every time he escapes. ...I imagined this show being better in my head, but I guess it's about what you'd expect for a slower and non-fan service-y 80s shonen, which is that's...it looks nice and it's okay but it's just a little boring and I'm not really into it. How many episodes does this have anyways? 48...and like six movies. Alright, Kimagure Orange Road is officially dead. Right, Kazemakase Tskukage Ran, episode 1 of 3. "Look, guys... Can't you tell how busy I am, just by looking at me?" *literally napping under a tree* Yep, I like her. Uh...the show, on the other hand, is awfully strange-feeling. It's like...I don't even know, the tone is all over the place. It's switching between comedic and serious what feels like every 30 seconds. And while I like the art style, the animation is...well, the insane expressions characters are making and the twitchiness of some characters is quite weird as well. This feels like decent 90s trash - kind of silly and stupid, but entertaining and not insulting...so far. I'll finish the rest of it, it's only 3 episodes after all.- Anime and Manga - < To Be Continued I \ I /
Yes, well, all of that basically describes the first season of Ranma 1/2 as well PLUS Ranma had martial arts mixed in as well (and I am a noted hated of martial arts crap), and I actually really liked that until it so suddenly and tragically ended. Sometimes you can like something in spite of everything working against it...and also, a shonen story made in the 80s is not likely to be nearly so horribly obnoxious as a shonen story made in the 2000s or later, though that's still obviously no guarantee I'll like it, . Those are the "top choices" because they're the ones I already have and just...need to try to make a decision on. I should really just stick with what I've already started, but I have a compulsion to attempt to eliminate that which I don't think I'll like first simply so I no longer have to worry about them. I have a good feeling (but no prognostication) about Angelic Layer, so that's probably what I'll actually try last out of everything. Speaking of Kimagure Orange Road...episode 1. The protagonist and his family have psychokinetic powers? Their cat escaped from the building and one of the protagonist's sisters just yoinked it from off the street back into their apartment - then a motorcyclist nearly ran them over while they were on their way to school and she pushed the motorcyclist away from them, and apparently they've had to move seven times out of fear of being discovered. Don't...really know what all that is about. Eh...nope, don't think this is for me. The protagonist isn't a total shonen scumbag or anything, but this is still too...80s and too shonen-y for me to be very interested, just from a stylistic and character point of view. Sudden stops in what's happening so the protagonist can monologue, other idiot boys HAVING NOSEBLEEDS (UNFORGIVABLE!) over stupid stuff, very...let's say tropey female leads. I might try one more episode at some point, but it's a no for me right now.- Anime and Manga - < To Be Continued I \ I /
Future Boy Conan is next, likely to be started this week or maybe early next, depending. The new English dub version is out, although no decision has been concretely made on what to go with yet. By the way, does anyone know why the hell buying the series to stream on Amazon is more expensive than buying the actual BDs? 52 freaking dollars to stream it, $35 to buy the 4-disc BluRay set. HUH?! To be honest, I'm not...super into the idea of getting into a classic adventure story like this right now after having seen Nadia not all that long ago, but... Well, hopefully I'll enjoy it more consistently than Nadia. I will continue finishing Samurai Hairdo on the side. After that's finished, I have...I have a lot of different choices, to be honest, but the ones at the top right now are: Princess Tutu Kidou Tenshi Angelic Layer Kimagure Orange Road Kazemakase Tsukikage Ran Maison Ikkoku Mahou no Star Magical Emi More Devil Lady Serial Experiments Lain Yes, I know a few of these are questionable - they're the ones I'll probably try first simply to get them out of my hair ASAP, . ...Of course, I've tried that strategy a few times before and then found myself juggling three or four different shows at once before because I found that I liked them more than I expected, so not always necessarily the wisest idea. - The Cinema and Movie Thread
