  1. Good point, but that makes for another argument. Why drop the second on another city? Why not out where no people are? In the ocean or something. Or hell, just explode one out in the desert and film it! Killing that many people because you're tired of war is definitely not an excuse. They were given what, a few days to come to a decision? We couldn't have waited a bit to avoid extinguishing so many more lives? Look, I'm really hoping nobody here disagrees with my assumption that everyone thinks it would have been better to end the war without killing all those civilians. There were other ways, if we'd had a little patience. Being war weary isn't an excuse. It was so many people...not relative to the war as a whole, of course, but they do matter, right?
  2. Oh...thought I was mistaking "Transport" for something Jewish... All right, if not rap, what are they then? Oblivion Soundtrack - Theme
  3. So, if I were to be drafted, but it was a war like the current Iraq war...and I left for Canada on "business", I'd be looked down on? Dude, I want to die for a real purpose and not for something I don't believe in.
  4. IMHO...the first bomb was enough. 50,000+ dead, in one fell swoop, does wonders for moving negotiations forward in the direction you want. Nagasaki was an excessive use of force.
  5. Do they even understand what he's saying? I didn't... Fort Minor - Where'd You Go? Why am I listening to a rap group...and enjoying it?
  6. Thank you too, ~Di. Been enlightening, to say the least. And again, sorry for my earlier bout of unnecessary defensiveness. ^_^
  7. Sorry, it was just what I got from "tone". Then again, text isn't the best medium of expression in that regard. And I stand by my earlier "broad-brushing of our country's populace", from what I've seen, in both statistics and personal experience, a large number of people here aren't the most intelligent on Earth, myself included. Though the same can be said of other countries as well. I'm looking at the website right now...and sorry if I gave the impression that my view is "right no matter what". Far from it, actually. Any new information is appreciated so I can gain a better understanding of the situation in its entirety. Apologies. I've a tendency toward...ahem...less than tactful approaches when I feel I'm being patronized. All right, you've got me there, I'm generalizing a bit too much for my own good. Just that I've spoken to a large number of people over the years from different states, and found that my experiences with this sort of thing were mirrored by their own. Perhaps not the best way to gain an informed idea and perhaps I'm completely wrong. It's happened before. Frequently. Made perfect sense. Almost too perfect... I will, and am looking into it further, if only to give myself a better understanding. Thank you for taking my ignorance on the subject as lightly as you have.
  8. It depends on how you look it the term, I think. If you think it's just "Oh, that person's crazy for thinking that"...then that's insanity, or if you think it's "A severe medical condition inhibiting the brain's ability to function normally"...then that's insanity, though the latter form is referred to as a mental illness nowadays, of which there are many, many, many different forms.
  9. Note the slow down in the comparison video. I admit, it looks pretty, but hell...it's as expensive as buying a new video card...after you'd probably have to buy an actual new video card for the games that are coming out.
  10. All right, just to be clear. I know damn well that it's a conspiracy theory. I'm just arguing a point that would be made IF IT WERE TRUE. I know it most likely isn't. I'm not declaring it as fact, nor am I advocating belief in it. It's just fun to debate for the sake of debating some times. And, perhaps I'm too sensitive, but I detect a veritable tidal wave of condescension in your entire post...don't know if it's directed at me personally, or at everyone who does what you think I did. My teacher, a brilliant man by the way (Keep him away from candles though...burned his room down last time. :D ), said the same thing that Kirottu's did. He's never Sugar-coated anything, and time and time again, I've researched what he's said and found truth behind it. To my knowledge, the Japansese didn't necessarily want their emperor to retain military power. It was more of a public position than anything else. A figurehead of their culture. Why not allow them to keep that? And in the end, after the bombs were dropped...not one, but two (Can you say "Overkill"?) we still let them keep their emperor anyway. This is pretty black and white, no purple to be found here. The Japanese weren't the United State's primary concern, or reason for dropping the bombs. We would not have lost a million soldiers. Peace talks were already well under way and going quite well, or so the Japanese thought. Have any justification for Nagasaki? Or was that just to assure ourselves that, yes, the bombs really did erradicate entire cities? At this point I'm not sure what you were taught in school. America is no different than any other country, in that it has done good things and bad things in its history. Some people attempt to declare the USA as different for various reasons, not the least of which is to validate a global double standard. I am NOT justifying the USA's current-day operations, btw. However, hating what the USA is currently involved in does not justify rewriting history by mistatement of fact. If you feel the USA is the bad guy today, and many do, fine. That doesn't mean that history should be revised to make the USA out to be the bad guy then, too. I'm not WW2 expert and am the first to admit that. But it really is depressing to see the reality of history... the good, the bad, and the ugly... distorted with half-facts, no facts, and blatant conspiratorial speculation until reality dissolves into a half-baked caricature of the bad, the vile, and the really evil. I initially made a sarcastic comment to avoid boring y'all with the bloated and boring trestise above. Obviously brevity is simply beyond my ability. Or maybe the devil made me do it. My apologies. :D <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Ok, to be frank, I don't understand how you're not completely bow-legged 24/7. (Note: If I'm wrong, and the high and mighty sense I'm getting from your post is also incorrect, then please, disregard my childish sarcastic comment.) More often than not, in American schools from highschool on down, the U.S. is put in the position of "The world's savior and purveyor of justice". Only in the later highschool years and college are actual facts that put a strain on our sense of ethics and patriotism expounded. And even then, there's a coat of honey applied to each spoonful of information. To reiterate; I'm not saying that the conspiracy over FDR has any true merit to it. I don't know either way, and neither do you, unless you had intimate personal contact with him throughout that time period. It's just fun to speculate.
  11. This game looks and sounds, for lack of a better word...amazing! Pre-order! Definite pre-order! And Ramza, why not get this? It seems brilliant.
  12. I'm avoiding it because screaming doesn't motivate me to action. That, and dieing in a hail of gunfire, burning to death, exploding, bleeding to death, or various other ways the military helps you pass on into the light, somehow don't appeal to me. And the Russian thing...how do they get away with that? Why doesn't the government take action? That goes above and beyond normal hazing. Jesus, people around here think tieing a kid to a pole for a night naked is "a terrible, scarring endeavor". Then again, our country is.......we're not the brightest collection of stars in the sky.
  13. When deciding to pass on the genes? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> "Deciding" my ass. That's the upper's concern, the lower just focuses on self-gratification.
  14. Yes, true, but name a time when the lower actually did a good job when it came to independant thought.
  15. You mean that wasn't intentional? It's so blatantly obvious though. Or maybe my brain's screwy from all the porn and gaming.............. Nah.
  16. Does said processing involve electro-shock "therapy"? And no, being one of those who doesn't want to join the armed forces, I don't really look down on myself. Well, literally, I guess I can...but not my whole self.
  17. Well she looks better than the car...at least I don't think I'm attracted to exhaust pipes...
  18. I think she wants an explanation of the joke itself. In which case...I'm not entirely sure, but I immediately thought of Catholic priests...
  19. Fort Minor - Petrified
  20. Ok, that's somehow more appealing. :">
  21. I didn't know that. Now I do.
  22. Yoou're confusing my age with the size of my ****. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> 43mm? "
  23. 1.You underestimate the isolationist frame of mind that the US had. It's why many countries consider the start of WW2 to be the invasion of Poland, while the US considers the start of WW2 to be December 7th, 1941. Until then, it was "Europe's War." 2.Unlikely. I've never seen anything that indicated that Hitler's Lebensraum involved the United States. He was content with ignoring the United Kingdom. He held his forces back to allow the evacuation of Dunkirk happen, in a show of good faith to the British, in hopes that he could agree to peace with them. He knew that the possibility of conquering the British Isle was virtually impossible, which is why they dropped Operation Sealion and tried to take the UK out of the war indirectly....primarily through the Battle of the Atlantic, as well as an attempt to bomb them into submission with the Battle of Britain. 3.Also not necessarily true. Many of the ships destined for the Pacific Fleet (i.e. the new Carriers and Battleships) were just recently commissioned and still in the Atlantic and the Carribean, and hadn't gone through the Panama Canal yet. Even if he did know of the attack, it doesn't mean he could have done anything to stop the inevitability of it. 4.Evacuating all of the ships would have compromised any intelligence advantage the US might have had, as it would be an indicator to Japan that their communications were intercepted. It would have also caused more important targets (like the giant Fuel Depot nearby that was absolutely essential to any naval and air operations in the Pacific, and arguably way, way, WAY more important than any of the ships in the harbour. Losing ANY of the aircraft carriers would have severely compromised the effectiveness of the Pacific Fleet, much worse than the loss of obsolete battleships and picket ships. 5.War is a dirty business, and lives are sacrificed. Operations that have zero chance of success are planned in an attempt to feint the opponent and help ensure strategic success. For instance, the Soviets sent their men to be slaughtered in the Battle of Kursk. In doing so the Germans achieved an operational victory, while at the same time pretty much ensured total strategic defeat. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> 1. Europe means a lot more to the U.S. than they probably though back then, being a major source of trade and all. But yes, I knew this already. 2. And given time, an exceptionally larger amount of resources and manpower, along with many, many more soldiers he'd of gotten from conquered lands in Europe, who's to say he would be content with that? There were Jews all over the world...accepting some key places...so why would he stop at slaughtering those in Europe? It seems like the next logical step after the acquisition of greater power would be to use said power...with Hitler's mind set. Then again, with the advent of nuclear weaponry...well, the Germans were close too, so it could very well have been a stand-off. (Like with the Soviets, but with a higher chance of a one hit K.O.) Too many variables really, and not many are good. 3. So, a trap couldn't have been set? A warning not given, at least covertly, so men weren't sleeping onboard the ships? Why couldn't they have met the oncoming Japanese planes with a squadron or two...dozen...of America's finest pilots? It'd of surprised the hell out of them, to be sure. 4. Of course you don't evac the ships, but why not ready an air response? And where's the defensive minded tactician when you need one? It's not the ships I'm concerned about. It's the people onboard them. They would have been sacrificed, if this conspiracy is true, for no good reason. Hell, they could have just given a lot of them extra leave time or something. 5. I have no desire to see the military that represents my country acting in any way like the Soviets. Sending millions, or any number, to die with no chance of success is not acceptable, by any stretch of the imagination. How many millions of Soviet soldiers died? The poor men were dead the moment they put on the uniform. I can accept losses, that's one of those cheery parts of warfare, but to do so on purpose is just...deplorable.
  24. Since some people are meanies. FORD GT Wow, this thing doesn't want to work.
