I think it would be stupid of Microsoft to release the console and devkits if the games being made weren't being made using its full hardware capabilities. This is just another marketing ploy if not an outright lie. If indeed ATI had created hardware that can make use of Direct X 10 they would have made it in a video card to up against Nvidia so they can get the drop on them when Vista is released.
Sorry, Epiphany, but I do not believe you nor the article you linked to. It makes no sense and has no credibility. YOU LOSE.
Hey, I make John Kerry look stable! (w00t)
I do like Morrowind and Oblivion a great deal. Two of the top CRPGs in recent years. My ideal game would be a hybrid of Planescape: Torment and Oblivion. All the free form exploration with a story driven adventure.
ToEE is one of the buggiest POS gsmes I have ever had the misfortuned of playing. In fact there has only been one game buggier and that was Ulitma 9. The Infinity Engine was good in its day but that day has passed.
Oblivion is a CRPG. Its goal is for yu to make a character and role play in its world and have fun doing it.
Neverwinter Nights 2 is a CRPG. Its goal is for yu to make a character and role play in its world and have fun doing it.
How is these two fundamental aspects different from one another? I am not saying that NWN 2 is going to be a bad game, just nothing to get excited over. Its another DnD game with gameplay that we have all played and seen before just with prettier graphics. Nothing new or exciting.
Actually if you tweak the spells in the editor you can most certainly fly. Um... landing on the other hand would be a problem. Also Climbing was there. I remember quite clearing that I had to jump and climb up a mountain side or three to get to certain locations.
Also I didn't say that the z axis is tied to the system requirements, I am merely commenting on the heftiness of it and the lack of features.
AD&D was clunky and didn't allow true customizable characters. A thief was a thief. A fighter was a fighter. With d20's feat and skill system you can create quit a number of unique characters just using the SRD.
Also AD&D was very much closed to third party content which the d20 System OGL allows and there are quite a number of third party material out their that are high quality stuff.
AD&D was very limited. The d20 System is the most perfect system I have came across to run my campaigns in. No other system have I come across that my players liked and can run my campaign stories equally well. AD&D just can't handle post modern New York unlike d20.
I play whatever platform has the games I want to play and more often than not it is the PC that has the titles that I want to play. I rather play Fallout 1 than Fallout: POS.
As for Neverwinter Nights 2, those are pretty hefty requirements for a game that still lacks some basic features that should be in current CRPGs.
While Neverwinter Nights 2 has some interesting tidbits to it, it still doesn't have the "must buy" feel to it. As a modern CRPG and still doesn't have z axis movement like other modern CRPGs like Oblivion is a definite limitation.
