I wouldn't be suprised to see KOTOR2 released simultaneously for PC and Xbox. Spliner Cell 2 is debuting on PC and Xbox (with PS2 and GC versions coming later) even though the original SC was first an Xbox exclusive.

The importance of Mood/Atmosphere
Hell Kitty replied to chaosprism's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
Realistic shadows and lighting (and physics and such) isn't what photorealism is about. Photorealism is just what the name suggets, graphics that look at good as a photo of real life. Max Payne 2 is a recent example of photorealism, with the textures and models made to look very much like the real thing. Silent Storm is an example of a game with realistic lighting and shadows, but a stylised, more cartoony look to the world and characters. -
***SPOILER*** Ah, I read on the IMDb that originally they had a homeless woman living there who witnessed the murders and then killed Gordon. Test audiences got confused thinking she was Mary, so it was cut. I'm glad it was cut, it was just a way to "punish the bad guy" - as close to a happy ending as they could get. Lame. I thought it was clear enough, and liked that it could be viewed a number of different ways.

I didn't think much of Evolution. It was alright, but entirely forgettable. I've only played the part of XIII when I rented it out. I think he has a good voice, but he didn't seem to put any effort into it, like he was just reading his lines (like Viggo Mortensen in The Two Towers game).

I don't think the DVD released here had any deleted scenes, but i can't quite remember. Was there something particularly good or bad about them? Anyway, I thought it was great, so there.

Suggestion: Make a pure turn-based combat RPG
Hell Kitty replied to Revolver's topic in Obsidian General
I dunno, it was barely out in Europe (apart from Russia), before the announcement was made. I imagine it did well enough to warrant an expansion, but they are making it because they want to, not because it's going to bring in the cash. -
Suggestion: Make a pure turn-based combat RPG
Hell Kitty replied to Revolver's topic in Obsidian General
Locking the camera and that red bar filling up each turn (remind anyone else of a download?) bored me silly. I mean you cant even have a look around the battle field you just have to stare at the screen till the bar has done it's thing. I read somewhere SS only sold around 24,000 units which was a bit of a shock. Anyone have some different numbers or a link ? You can modify one line in the config file to gain control of the camera during the enemy turn. I never expected Silent Storm to sell huge amounts, but Nival aren't interested in making games that are huge commercial successes. What the RPG world needs is devs who are happy (and have the time and money) to make niche titles. -

Git the Planescape Licence!
Hell Kitty replied to Sargallath Abraxium's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
Screw PnP licenses, develop your own worlds and rulesets. You'll feel better about yourselves. -
I saw it long ago and I don't remember a great deal about it other than it entertained me. I never really bought Duchovny as a doctor, but he did a decnt enough job.

Suggestion: Make a pure turn-based combat RPG
Hell Kitty replied to Revolver's topic in Obsidian General
I want real-time for my first person single character RPGs, and turn-based for my isometric party based RPGs. Oh, and when I refer to TB, I'm talking about STB. I want combat like Silent Storm, oh baby... I have yet to see an RPG (that isn't an action RPG) do combat that I actually find interesting. -
The importance of Mood/Atmosphere

In all kind of games?. I guess Silent Hill 3 was wrong to uses realistic graphics to depict horrific monsters and rusty old surroundings. I love the Silent Hill games. Is photorealism necessary? Of course not. The characters in the game have a fairly stylised look. I prefer the look of characters in the SH series, and many other Japanese games, to purely photorealistic graphics. The Resident Evil remake is another example of stylised characters in a fairly realistic world. I think a more realistic looking world (but not necessarily photo-realistic) works well in a horror game, but that doesn't mean that a more stylised world wouldn't work. Like I said, consistant art direction is what matters. -
What type of engine is Project X using?
Hell Kitty replied to Ellester's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
KOTOR used the Odyssey Engine, it says so right there on the box. How modified it is from the Aurora Engine only matters when it comes to praising or criticising it. -
Cool site. From that list I've seen: Another Heaven Audition Battle Royale Dark Water Ring Ring 2 Ring 0 The Ring St John's Wort Whispering Corridors And I recommend them all!

Photorealism isn't necessary in any game. Cel shading isn't any better than any other style. All that matters is consistent art direction. -
I'm not interested in any particular types of music. I don't listen to the radio and I haven't bought a CD in years. Just gimme some Bob Marley and Heather Nova and I'm happy.

I also recommend Below. Ghostly happenings aboard a WW2 sub. I was rather impressed with this.

Oh, I've seen that one too. Very enjoyable.

other possible "settings"
Hell Kitty replied to Ed Descault's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
Just gimme some cyberpunk goodness and I'll love you forever. -
I recommend the film Session 9. it's an American film from 2001 with David Caruso. The creepiest film I've seen in a long time. Tragic, too. If you haven't seen this, you ought to spank yourself. I think most "horror" movies we see now would be better characterised as "slasher" or "monster", which can be fun, but usually aren't scary. I think nowadays I prefer creepy to scary The Exorcist was probably the last film that really scared me. The Silent Hill games are the only things that have truley scared me. The scene in the prison bathroom in SH2, when there is a loud thud against the locked stall - it wasn't a lame jump moment, it was a WHAT THE HELL WAS THAT? moment. Or in SH3 where I enter a corridor to find a wheelchair tipped over with the wheel still spining, and a trail of blood leading from the the wheelchair to around the corner, like something really bad just happened. I love these games. I recently saw Audition on TV. The feet removing scene... gah!
