I prefer Deadfire over Baldur's Gate 3, mainly because it features RTWP instead of TB, 2D instead of 3D and a more 'realistic' fantasy setting. Original Baldur's Gate was designed with RTWP and therefore POE is the actual spiritual successor. Now BG 3 was way more financially successful because the audience consists mainly out of people who love cringe writing, bear sex, Shadowheart and rpgs as romance simulators. If BG3 was a real-time strategy game with all the aforementioned, it would still be very popular. The rpg elements are just the potatoes that do not constitute the 'meat' of the game.

I advocate you need some therapeutic counseling instead of playing games. Glad that there are no romances.

Avowed Extended Gameplay Breakdown with Obsidian
Morrydwen replied to the_dog_days's topic in Avowed Speculation
This game actually looks amazing in my opinion; a game I would love to play. The inner-connected area system brings me back to Might and Magic 6. Amazing art direction of environments. Amazingly designed unique environments. Top notch art direction for npc and monsters. Great attack animations from monsters. On hit combat between monsters and you is not super great but good enough for me. It would be cool though if we got to the level of dark messiah might and magic. Of course if you approach these game mechanics as a POE continuation, I guess it is disappointing. Personally I see it more as a somewhat simplified first person rpg akin to Skyrim. Only sad I won't see it on GOG for quite some time. I am ok for Obsidian to first make profits by selling it on Microsoft's platform. I'll pay for the game once it arrives on GOG. And please don't dump real life politics and woke stuff in this game. It is a fantasy game, keep it like that. -
Hello, I am currently playing through Deadfire for the very first time and liking it very much. I have done Port Maje + Fort Deadlight + Dunnage + most quests in Neketaka + Oswald quest. Both the Vailian and Royal Deadfire company requested me to go to Poko Kohara through Tikiwara. I am currently level 10 but when I leave Tikiwara on foot I am faced with red skulled enemies, too high for my level which tells me I need to priorize other quests first. Also I am feeling the conclusions of this quest will make me to choose a faction as both Royal Deadfire company, Valian company and Huana want me to do different things in Poko Kohara. Which chronology should I take? I still have the following quests in Neketaka: -> Robbing the Archmage's Vault -> The Cornett's Call in OLD CITY (I have not yet visited Old City as people told me to wait with it) -> Hanging Sepulchers in Sacred Stairs (2 quests: Find Eulogy of Yseyr and locate the tomb of yseyr). I visited the place but also am faced with red-skulled enemies. So this needs to wait. Sayuka -> Find Remaro for Serafen. Mutari O Kozi -> Investigate the island for the Huana faction. Hasongo -> Advancing the main quest (which seems to me the most logical thing to do) + Eder's questline Also can you safely explore the archipelagos or is it better to visit places when the people offering bounties tell you to go there. Will you visit all the places if you do all the bounties? Are there mid-level places I could and should visit but are not part of a questchain? I also got Beast of Winter expansion but I guess I better wait with that until the end. P.S.: At this point I consider this game better than BG I, IWD I and IWD II. And at least on par with BG II. The fact you don't need to waste time casting healing spells and resting all the time between battles is a major plus compared to the old infinity engine games. It looks Deadfire uses a system similar to Dragon Age Origins which really helps with the flow of the game.

Will this game launch on GOG? I don't like third-party software that needs to be installed in order for playing a game. Will Obsidian make sure there is a version fully catered to pc? Will it feature quick and manual saving? Nowadays 'PC games' launch but are actually developed for console and their horrible interface and control system gets ported over to PC to give abysmal gameplay. Latest game that ripped me off was Wolfenstein, paid almost full price and had terrible controls on pc. I don't want to waste money on non-quality games. Thanks.

Dear forum users, I'd like to play POE like classical Baldur's Gate. What I mean with this, is a fixed camera height above your characters while transitioning from one area to the other. I am aware of a console command ToggleIgnoreZoomRange which resets all baked min and max values of the zoom option in every area. This means this is set by a global parameter. The only question is which file(s) need to be modified to get the desired result. Much thanks for anyone who can aid me!

At least this will be a huge improvement for me. It can take up to a minute to start up the game and I can experience loading times around 40 seconds for loading ingame areas with my hdd. After some more research, I will opt for the 960 GB SATA SSD as the other one does not improve loading times that much. The advantage is writing files to the drive but 500 MB/seconds with SATA is more than enough.

@Helz Thanks for the feedback!!! My old computer dates from 2013 and indeed has a HDD. If you yourself are featuring a SSD setup, can you tell me what loading times are on average for Deadfire in the beginning and near the end of the game? Because this is what caused me to stop playing it in 2018. I helped kickstarting it but never finished the game and I hope with the new system I can finally enjoy this RPG!

I will be purchasing a new game computer in the near future. On my old pc, deadfire loading times were horrible. How much will loading times improve under: -> 960 GB SATA SSD -> 512 GB SSD M2.0 / NVMe (additional 90 euro costprice) Other specs of new pc will be: -> Motherboard: ASRock A520M Phantom Gaming 4 -> Processor: AMD Ryzen 7 3800 (8 cores @ 3.9-4.5 GHz) -> Memory: 16 GB RAM (2666 MHz) -> Video Card: Geforce RTX 3060 12 GB

Just bought it!

Such a shame that such a great game was not appreciated that much in the end. The only negative for me was the ship combat but in the end it was serviceable. It is painful to watch Sawyer desperately trying to find reasons why the sales flopped. It is def not because OBsidian made a bad game. Sawyer is way too much focused on Divinity Original Sin. (I hope he isn't too harsh on himself). Guess most people didn't like the setting. And also keep in mind that there is a huge majority of players just playing 'rpgs' for the story. Gameplay can be **** and all; they don't seem to care. If the story doesn't engage them, they are out. -
Since Microsoft obtained Obsidian, does it mean they will only make console games from now on? Although Microsoft builds operating systems and software for pc; when it comes to games they ironically only care about Xbox. Guess 2019 will be a bad year for pc games. There are hardly any RPG coming out. We got a couple of shooters (Metro Exodus, Doom Eternal, Rage 2, Far Cry New Dawn ...) who all have worse A.I. and combat than the 2005 hit F.E.A.R. (my benchmark). It also looks these games more target kids than adults. They all look cheesy. I do have some hope for Control (from Remedy Entertainment). Max Payne was a masterpiece. Alan Wake was a disappointment though. (Went from an open world pc game to an xbox exclusive linear shooter)
