  1. I got a really cool RP idea for a priest now, so I will give that one a go. Aumaua Deadfire Slave that got bought out from her master by a Magranite. Simple but I like it, also, coming back to DF in poe2 means I can say "F U bitches, I got my own ship now!" As I will also have Durance, I would much rather have my MC be more combative. Would 16/8/16/16/16/6 work well for a potd priest in melee later on? Works fine in act1, but that could simply be because I know that part like the back of my hand by now...
  2. The mega-buffing sounds quite fun, especially for Eder and Aloth to get some massive damage out early on. Just in my last 2 runs to Caed Nua I finally got rid of Aloth's (and my) Wands and of Blast and giving them physical ranged weapons is so counterintuitively awesome xD Just a quick followup to Priests... They are supposedly much worse in POE2? Could be that they are just balanced now and some loud voices are butthurt about their bae not being OP anymore, but I still have to make sure. I would prefer not to change class when I finally finish poe1 and get into Deadfire... on PotD of course Wouldn't rule out multiclassing if that makes or breaks the class, but still would like to know in advance. Also, you don't mention Cipher at all. I assume because of their limited (but strong) power loadout 2 would be obsolete later on? At least in Act 1, 2 are very useful, if only for the fact that I can simultaniously charm 2 enemies and then still cast 2 Amp Thrusts.
  3. so, yeah... I struggle a lot deciding on which caster class to pick for my MC. They all are very appealing to me, I played them all up to Caed Nua on potd and loved it all. Now, as I haven't been past CN, I have yet to meat GM and Hiravias, but thanks to me spoilering back when, I know for a fact that I'd want to keep them in my active party a lot. Only, equally I want to keep Aloth and Durance in my party. Not that I will have them all 4 as 'permanent' companions, but I will probably use them all a lot... Now my question is in the title. Which caster class is getting the most out of using two of them? As far as Act 1 goes, I *think* Wizard is the best in that regard, as I can either slot different spells for different specialties on me and Aloth, *or* I can balance spell usage between the 2 and reduce my need for resting - the latter should also be true for the Druid.
  4. Thanks! Sadly, I am suffering from heavy Restarteritis and can't decide between Wizard, Cipher, Priest and Druid. Which is actually okay, as I at least got away from my years-long addiction to Paladins/Guardians xD
  5. Thanks to all who posted and gave some insight. Next time, I need to do more research before asking (stupid) questions.
  6. I read quite a few posts about Ciphers being among the weakest classes in Poe2, and being outclassed in every way in the things they are good at. But all the info I could find was from 2019 at latest. So, I wonder if things have changed since then, either by patches or by people discovering new niches for the class. Especially interested in their PotD viability, as that is what I will be playing on.
  7. Holy **** this looks awesome! Thanks a lot for pointing me in the right direction
  8. I need advice on building a melee Cipher MC for PotD. I couldn't find any guides or much info in general on that. Stat-wise, I got this as my blueprint: M14 C10 D14 P14 I16 R10 But I am fully open to suggestions... For race, Imma either stick to the endearing Godlikes (Nature or Death - leaning to Nature for flair, but also Death gets a damage buff at low enemy endurance...), or go for Orlan, as I found some really lovely portraits for them.
  9. I would love an Orlan Moon Godlike and Nature Godlike made from this. Is anyone willing to help me out with this? I suck at recolouring... I tried for half an hour but just couldn't get anything remotely decent out of it. xD No water-colouring stuff, just recolouring (I don't even know if one is easier than the other)
  10. I actually may have asked that already some loooong time ago, but can't find it... How would I build a melee Cipher? Doesnt feel like I can drop any stat very low... High mig/int/per, middling dex/res, lower con?
  11. Hello! I will soon be returning to pillars and hopefully finally finish it (or at least get past Maerwald) before December when POE2 releases for PS4. I want to do a talkative build that works well in a team (and solo? I dunno if there are many fights you HAVE to do solo) on POTD. Also, havin POE2 in mind, are there some creation choices from POE1 that highly affect conversations in part 2? Stats and build dont matter to me much, as I like pretty much all playstyles in these types of games Races I find the most interesting: Orlan, Aumaua, Godlike Classes i find the most interesting: Paladin, Cipher, Priest While I like slaves or scholars the most, I am open to other backgrounds. For geographic origins I have no preferences at all, though I guess Deadfire would have the largest impact in POE2? Any advice is much appreciated ;D
  12. Yay, so now I will buy it and hope it runs on my laptop ^^
  13. Sorry, I think I don't understand. Can I use the same copy on multiple computers?
  14. Another question... Is the Goty DRM-free?
  15. If you look at Poe's ancestor BG2, you can easily see how a romance in a story and character driven game can be annoying. To actually see the majority of the content of one character, you HAVE to romance her/him (in BG2 Anomen is the worst in this regard). You could, of course, put all the content out for everyone (romancing or not), and just alter/add/remove certain lines depending on the kind of relationship. Bioware did a vaguely similar thing with Mass Effect, and imo even did it quite well... IMO, romances are great in traditional JRPGs, where you can't customise your character's personality that much (if at all), and thus, the writers can focus on the development of the relationship. Often, like in Final Fantasy, the romance is even an important part of the main plot. In cRPGs, romances are usually either bad, forced (like in BG2, though they are well written) or unnecessary... Thus I would rather see intellectual or personal relationships between characters (MC or not) that fit in the rest of the game than having forced, unnecessary or - worst of all - BAD romances. This all from the perspective that I got no idea how the story in Pillars of Eternity plays out xD ...yet...
  16. So the GOTY (which would be my hardcopy choice) updates from 3.0 to 3.03 via steam? Sorry for the stupid question, I am just getting used to pc-gaming again xD (stopped 2005, lot has changed since then)
  17. I hope this is the right subforum to ask this? I am unsure which is the best platform to take PoE from... Would prefer the hardcopy version, but apparently producers/developers and modders alike don't like DVDs that much anymore (my BG:EE dvd can't get an update past 1.xx for example, and some mods for Planescape have a hard time working with the DVD version). So I wonder whether the hardcopy version has some kind of disadvantage over Steam or GoG and vice versa. Like updates or version-unique bugs etc. Thank you for upcoming info ^^
  18. One more thing... In terms of lore, I start to like the Pale Elves and Coastal Aumaua a tad more than the Orlan. Do I gimp my offensive potential a lot by picking a race with a defensive passive? On the other hand I can increase might by up to 3 more points ^^
  19. Thank you ^^ Well, I still have some time till I can build my PC, and thus still have time till I can build my PC :'D Most likely I will just try both squishy melee and ranged (just realised my stat distribution is the same for both) and see which strikes my fancy ^^ When should I specialise in one or the other? I like the Ruffian weapons quite a lot, so, unless they suck for melee Cipher, lvl2/4 shouldn't be the breaking point for that ^^ Edit: Are war bows good for ranged ciphers?
  20. How would you play such a super-squishy cipher in melee? Getting enemies to not target you seems quite difficult in melee o.o
  21. Thank you I think I will go for ranged to min/max a bit more and get more 'high-level' conversation choices ^^ Any other recommendations regarding my build and party?
  22. Thanks, you two ^^ So, for melee I thought (I dont mind being squishy at the frontline) might - 17 con - 3 dex - 18 per - 12 or 18 int - 18 res - 10 or 4 or, after seeing the blunderbusses, I start to like ranged as well xD m - 17 c - 3 d - 18 p - 12 or 18 i - 18 r - 10 or 4 The characters I will probably take along (because they sound the most interesting/nice as far as I tried to learn about them without spoiling - I don't even know how/when/why they accompany me) are Eder, Durance, Hiravias and Grieving Mother. Pagani sounds nice too, but I already have many offensive chars like it is, so the last one is free for now ^^ Second playthrough will most likely be Kind Wayfarer, because Pallies are always cool :D then a pure tank with max resolve and constitution ^^
  23. Hello you all! After being persuaded by my brother to finally get a new computer just to play the only recent game I am actually interested in and spending 2 days choosing a class... I am at a loss xD luckily I still have time till i have my new computer I definitely want to play a hearth orlan cipher, no question there anymore, but I can't choose a combat-style or stats. While I don't mind min/maxing to a certain extent, I do mind ignoring roleplay. My brother said, as I am used to playing Baldurs Gate on SCS (heavy AI-improvement mod), I would feel at home on PotD, though they are very different games... How does a melee Cipher fare on PotD? What stats should I go for? Or is ranged far superior to melee on a Cipher? Do I suffer role-playability (compassionate good guy with racial issues because of 'heritage') because of necessary powergaming when I go melee? Probably stupid questions (dunno, me tired) but still relevant to me ^^ Greetings Adelard
