Well, I'm doing this only for a RP sake.. res is pretty important when it comes to dialogues, so, given that my last playthorugh until act 3 was all INT-related, I'm trying to do something different.... but maybe even PER can have a good role in dialogues...can't it? I'm not very much into it.. never tried.. Edit: If there's a way to get a reasonable RES with equipment, that might be good nonetheless...

Boer, I'm willing to start my barbarian as per your description. In the end, it's similar in playstyle to my old fighter, but with the twist you gave him it's bound to be fun. Question is: What is the intelligence used for? It's to lenghten the duration of fire damages? Because I'd like to go more PER and RES, and if I can, I'd also like to be the trap guy.. (surv/mech) You think it's possible or I would ruin the MC? Thanks, have a good weekend!

Boer can you come up with a priest for me? What combinations can one obtain in Deadfire for clerics? Are they any good and tanky? The bigger question 'd be: can they be any good without resorting to heavy spellcasting? I know they're good off tanks, but I think that magic plays a role in this. And if I don't want to be heavy in magic but in combat and lore?

So, if I get it correctly, the dual wield talent and the vulnerable attack kinda erase each other's speed, but I end up getting +5 dr bypass? So the total resulting speed from 2 weapons 'd be +50% (excluding the eventual weapon's inherent bonus)... not bad.. very viable. Then if I find a particular encounter to be too hard, I can switch to sword and board for a higher penetration and better defence. That sounds about right and good. So in the end Dex12 it will be, while per and res will stay 16. Per maybe can even go 15.. I'm not ranged after all. Better put it in mig? Con?

Brilliant. So 13 Dex is still too high for 2 weapon? I wouldn't go under 12, if I decide to go weapon/shield at a certain point, then I'll be slow.. but generally speaking, I'll stick to 2 weapon fighting. And Cladhalìath/Drawn in Spring is what I like the most. As for skills, the last option you described seems the best to me. Just a little stealth with Mech on top and Survival as 2nd best. I think this can be quite fun to play (the wolf is really kick*** even right at the start). Thanks a whole bunch for all you wrote. Edit: What about the paladin Stargazer asked about? Did you come up with a build?
-
You know, Boeroer and Stargazer... the idea of the scepter-wielding paladin doesn't seem bad... a noble... Darcozzi, with prestidigitator's missiles..and some magic (but how to?)...I dunno... The only doubt I have about it (as with any ranged pally) is how useful the zealous areas will be, if you're not amidst your companions... For Draego: thanks for the awesome answer. I give you details on what I'd like: RACE: fine with Orlan...I don't dislike him at all, a race full of PoE lore. STATS: I'd like to have PER and RES. Last time I had all INT. In a test i gave him M15 - C10 - D13 - P16 - I9 - R16... WEAPONS: two weapons, and I know how Cladhaliath is obtained, no problem about that. Hatchet is also something I like. Do 2 hatchet result in +10 deflection? SKILLS: I wanna play the trap guy, definitely. Would you spread like STEALTH-MECH-SURV or MECH-SURV-LORE (which afaik adds to dialogues) ? Do you think it's gonna work? Or lower Dex a bit more?
-
Hi Draego, not heard from you for a while... I'm also thinking about ranger. Do you think it's gonna be tanky enough? Must it be Orlan or you have other suggestions? Does it only work with Tidefall? I ask all of this because this character is almost identical to my former orlan fighter, but with less intelligence and higher per and res...which I like, but otherwise identical.. Can it play rogue like trapspringing and sneaking?
-
Ok so it's trial and error basically.. if I die.. then it's not good. I've made exactly the build you recommended, except it's moon gl so it has 19 starting mig. The other character I'm gonna try is ranger. But I don't like it melee. Is there a way to be sort of... ranged tank? So that I can be in the front line with him? Forgive me if it's a silly question... I never tried.. P.S. I've taken novices suffering, yes. I just hope it fares well when in the fray.
-
Oook there's some change in how it fares now. Moon GL heals automatically, so it's kinda rare for him to suffer. What I'm noticing (and I ask to @boeroer) is.. he doesn't deal a lot of damage... 13-17 for now.. is it gonna increase in the future? Moreover I can't carry anything in the hands and head so I lose something in power... how to cope with that? Another question 'd be.. what armor to use? I started with a brigandine and didn't change it, but attacks slow down a bit.. Wait your input!

Melusina, I'll admit that I did the tasks a bit on the quick side. I was eager to see 1) how it fared and 2) the new merchant in Anslog. (Unuseful unless you got cash...so better later on..) But tbh I was a bit spoiled by the fighter which proved tanky and quite fun in the interactions (due to the high int I gave him). Now I'm trying to build something a little more "unique" than the classic fighter, to import in the new PoE2. I'm debating with my own self whether to go pally or ranger or barbarian, and race for me DOES have an impact, because of lore. I'm on to trying what Boeroer suggests me a few posts ago (the Monkadin ) but I'll go moon GL. It's the apotheosys of healing, as far as I can tell. Let you all know how it fares!
-
So to sum it up: Fighter - Already done Barbarian - High health, can become a tank? Paladin - Quite good for all playthrough, how to make it unique? I'm not very sure about dwarf... maybe moon gl? Ranger - You get a companion which does a ton damage under certain conditions, but quite squishy itself? He can play the "rogue" anyway, many roles for him. Is it right? Did I forget something?
-
I did! mine was an Orlan, with high int and two handed weapon.. tidefall. Are you sure a barbarian is squishy? I didn't quite realise this aspect... I kinda like unconventional characters.. would like to bring one of those in next chapter. I just don't like to "think" too much or handle micro intensive characters in the fray. Maybe the ranger, aided by the pet will do... but with some tweaks.
-
Ok, went up to Anslog's Compass (this should be the name in English). Unless I wear a heavy armor, the paladin is extremely squishy, even in easy mode (I died couple of times to the mushrooms). Maybe it'll become sturdier later... but I prefer something a little more... straightforward than that. I have to try ranger and barbarian (with a slight preference for ranger). Any other suggestions?
