  1. Might be hard to vet Volo since he's apparently foreign born, but if he's a Canadian politician, he's got enough problems of his own up there in the Great White North. On the other hand, Obama was born in Kenya and Kruse was born in Kanada Still, I say put him in as Secretary of State in a nod to Kissinger. Let's see, VP? Let's look into vetting Valsuelm as part of a unity ticket. Hasn't been tried in decades, but it might just put us over the top. Otherwise, try to pry Guard Dog from his libertarian leanings and coopt him into being your running mate. Tell him not to worry about his tax history. We'll just instigate an audit and he can put off disclosure until after the election. Either that or he can say that he put his tax information on his private server and then deleted it. So, Volo the Canadian for Secretary of State and Valsuelm or Guard Dog for VP. All we need now for a bare bones cabinet is Sec Defense and AG. I recuse myself from both positions on the basis of lack of interest, dearth of skill, loss of brain cells, and general malaise. There must be someone here to fill these rolls, so toss the dice and move your mice. Remember, the Director of the FBI is on the back burner for now.
  2. Who isn't? You want real movement? Hire me as your campaign manager. I'm tight with the intellectually challenged Christian fundamentalists and I have a toe hold with the 'meh' generation and the 'none of this crap matters' (NofCM) movement. Believe me, you can't go wrong with Hastur at the head of your media machine!
  3. I went to the Reagan library this Friday past. If I were to write in a name, I might as well write in the name of a real cowboy trivialized as a cartoon by his political foes than cartoon cowboy, even though either the ghost of the real cowboy or the current cartoon would do better than the choices today. Anyhow, the trump hysteria and panic is delightfully overstated to the point of comedy. I can't abide the guy, but he's certainly not Hitler. And even if I decide that I can't support him, I also don't think Republicans should try to ditch him as a candidate. If you hate him that much, have the guts and integrity to change parties like some of the people here. Don't try to subvert the primary process that yielded him as a candidate. However, I will get a huge kick out of it if Donald Trump wins. Not because I wanted him out of all the choices, but because I know some Dems wanted him to win the primary because they thought he couldn't win the general. I personally believe that if the polls are even remotely close going in, he's going to win.
  4. Yeah, Guard Dog, I see your tag line and I fancy myself more or less a libertarian also. I've always figured the goverment should see to the border and by and large stay out of my personal affairs, from budget to bedroom. I've still been more or less happy with most of the Republican candidates over the years. I even saw some value to W on a personal level, although I thought he spent money too freely. With Trump, we've entered the realm of **** politics where candidates brag about the size of their members and memberships in the same breath. On the other side, you have Clinton who is as corrupt as a three dollar bill, has the morals of a two bit prostitute, and lacks a single scruple. One of these people is going to win, and I'm either going to support Trump or do something I haven't done in my adult life. Not vote for president. Either one is enough to bring a grown man to tears.
  5. I haven't posted for a while, but I really appreciate the fact that I can now play Sniper Harsk. I completely restarted my party of four after the last big patch and it's working quite nicely. I'm not sure, but I think I might have closed the store in the dam scenario and didn't get frozen out of the game.
  6. I imagine I'll be out this fall pounding the pavement handing out political tracts in support of a candidate I detest because he's running against candidate I detest marginally more. Where I live, that's leaving me open to being jumped or knifed as I walk through the neighborhoods although that's not so much an issue now that targeting is on the house by house level. The days when you would go out trying to convince individuals door to door are long gone. Now, you simply want people who might already be inclined to vote for your candidate or issue to get up off their lazy ass and actually vote, which is the only advantage my side might have since a disproportionate number of us vote religiously (in every sense of the word). How do you have a rational discussion when people won't even charitably listen to other arguments? Even worse, rational discussion is over-rated. I'll tackle gun control. Since this is all anonymous, I can agree that some modest additional gun control laws wouldn't be terrible. Of course, the gun control laws that Democrats float after mass shootings typically wouldn't have had an immediate effect on the shooting in question, which brings me back to my original point about gun control laws. I could see some laws as being perfectly reasonable, but I'll never agree to them. The NRA has been magnificently successful in its mission precisely because they give no ground. Other advocacy groups have faltered and fallen because they were willing to negotiate more readily in the spirit of compromise. The NRA fights tooth and nail over every piece of legislation and, if it fails to block the legislation, it continues those fights in court at every level. There are some people in the NRA who theoretically wouldn't mind having more control of guns, but they understand the way the left operates, which is to try to make incremental steps in order to establish increasing control over the population. That's not a conspiracy theory. That's taking a variety of liberal authors, personalities, and politicians at their word. This isn't confined to gun control. The same principle applies to any particular policy view in which the end goal is out of reach within the confines of demographics but steps towards the goal can be normalized and then further steps can be taken at some point in the future. It would be refreshing if the left would be more honest about this but, to be fair, they can't be honest about it. If they could be straightforward and say, "we want strict gun laws that make it extremely difficult for the vast majority of citizens to own firearms of any sort," they would have simply done it already. In places with demographics that permit such an open stance, they do. Some representatives from liberal districts and some senators from extremely liberal states come close to doing just that. But never quite there for most of them because they know trying to ban firearms altogether is a lost cause. For now. People should keep in mind that once you get the pendulum swinging towards the side you want, it's probably not just going to stop exactly where you plan. And then it's liable to cut you in half swinging back on the return trip.
  7. Must mean every white guy born in the US is technically a Native American. Those tricky definitions. They're hard for everyone to nail down just right, even the left. That's a gigantic fallacy if I ever saw one. Native Americans are, these days, a specific ethnic group with the USA. Unless you are actually arguing that almost the entire population of the USA is not "home grown". I'm not the one who got stuck on the idea of 'home grown' in the first place. I'm merely one of the people pointing out that it's hard to argue (for what I would consider the most jaded and cynical political purposes) that a group that is, as you say, distinct, self segregates, and maintains its own separate culture within a society is somehow 'home grown' and therefore the product and blame of the society. This is all smoke and mirrors. It's a way to distract people by pointing out the crack in the window sill, the peeling paint on the walls, and the burnt out light bulb in the bathroom in the hopes that they won't notice the house is on fire. Of course 'Native American' is distinct from someone who is native to America. We know that because as a group we've made that distinction. This is language, after all. We do with it what we want in order to serve our needs. Sadly, to paraphrase Voltaire, I think, some people use words as a way to disguise their thoughts. If I went into the local reservation and shot up the place, no one would contend that I was 'home grown.' In the same way, we shouldn't pretend that a group that separates itself so religiously (forgive the pun) from its host nation is somehow born out of its culture.
  8. certainly somewhat in search of a distinction, I'm sure. To draw the line between them seems much more a matter of convenience to me and some people use what distinction they can muster in order to promote a narrative. It's gauche to cite the dictionary, I'm sure, but it seems we have to start somewhere, do we not? merriam-webster.com/dictionary/native
  9. Must mean every white guy born in the US is technically a Native American. Those tricky definitions. They're hard for everyone to nail down just right, even the left.
  10. Been making beer and mead for near a year now. Range from drinkable to 'wow, that's the stuff!' Now have a five gallon batch of mead fermenting and two one gallon batches of beer. Beer is for a quick turn around and there's always some around the house. Mead is for aging and enjoying. Either make good gifts, but a cool clear bottle of golden mead makes a good impression, either effervescent or still (which I prefer).
  11. I'm not an apologist for this bug. After all, it makes me feel so low when I end up with the game ending crash while trying to loot the general store. We're supposed to be heroes, by God! However, as I've seen at least a few times up above, a simple work around in order to continue to enjoy the game, is not to close the general store. BY the way, since, depending how it pans out, closing locations can be a waste of a turn, don't close any location. Seriously, if someone ends a turn at a location and can't close it, don't have the next person close it. Remember the goal. Don't get caught up in nit-picky matters. As a general rule, since you *don't* lose for going through the blessings deck but only lose if Maggawhaterface eats too many NPCs, eschew everything in order to find NPCs. Also, and I don't remember if this is the thread wehere folks talked about it or not, but on legendary with a six character party I only needed to save... 9? 10? allies. So it looks like Maggnabiddy is kicking your ass, but not necessarily. UPSHOT: Don't close any locations. Don't panic. Just keep going after allies where you have a chance of finding them. Stack folks in locations with the biggest chance to find allies and spend resources to find them. More important than defeating monsters and doubly more important than closing locations is saving folks from that hydra bitch! EDIT: probably wounldn't have bothered, but one letter literally confused the sentence, so I changed it.
  12. Thanks for the sympathy. On the other hand, reading over my post, I think it says something more substantive than the post I'm currently quoting, so maybe you ought to throw down a few shots and respond.
  13. Sadly, I'm not at my swiftest or brightest right now, but it's frustrating in that I get stuck on Sniper Harsk consistently now. I'm going to do a search for Harks problems, but it's frustrating. As far as the General Store problem in adventure deck 3, no biggie. Just don't close the location and you can win no problem. Harsk no working after choosing the sniper route sucks, though.
  14. I'm sorry in that I tend to post after indulging in the demon rum, and so I beg forgiveness if this is a tad less organized than I prefer, but it is nevertheless my genuinely feeling. I might be odd in that I don't care about the free to play stuff. When the game came out, they offered a certain product if I bought it straight away and then made that product available for folks if they decided to grind for gold. I don't want to insult folks who didn't want to pay the... oh my goodness... 25 bucks to get everything straight away. I really don't. However, the box set I purchased was about 40 bucks. I've played it a lot (mistaking the rules, I'll admit) since I got it, and enjoyed it. For considerably less money, I have the app which does all the shuffling and allows me to play all the characters at once without trying to keep track of multiple decks in the same way as the physical game. I'm not saying I like the app better than the cards. They both bring something to the table and I enjoy them both immensely. However, the app is a lot less expensive. For 25 bucks, I had every character available and didn't have to grind a single second to be able to use the pary I wanted. My four character party used four characters from the base set, so I guess I didn't need the character add-on pack, but I started my six person party at virtually the same time. I didn't have to grind for a damned thing and used all of the cards. I got some ally (poog my goblin bitch or some such) at the same time. That, I got with my four person party and I think he's fun and cool without being game breaking. So, the upshot is that there is some benefit for paying to get the goodies straight away. I'm not some spendthrift who throws money around. Quite to the contrary. I tend to be careful about money considerably more than necessary, and yet I have not been unhappy in any way with the money I've spent. Now, to be fair, I do think that the game is buggier than it should be. Go bless 'em, Obsidian has some issues on that front, but the game is just plain fun, which is the flip side of all those nasty ol' bugs. No matter how I look at it, I can't get all riled up about some folks managing to get the goodies for less. I paid for something, I got it, and I've been happy with it. I'm not going to stay awake at night because someone might have gotten a better deal than me. My time is worth a lot more than 25 bucks for an hour and it would have taken me at least several hours to unlock with free to play grinding to get that 25 bucks got me on day one. You think I'm a fool for not being angry for someone grinding to get 'free' stuff? Fair enough. I feel sorry (and as mean as that sounds, I am sincere in saying)... I feel sorry for someone who felt he needed to grind away a single hour because he couldn't afford to shell out 25 singles.
  15. I'm with Val. Granted, I don't think Amiri is weak, per se, but I think Valeros has far far greater utility. Amiri has survival? Cool, but Val has charisma, and I think that has far more utility. As far as the health argument goes, the same can be said for combat. Val has overkill for most of his battles. You don't get a benefit from killing the enemy 5x over. You simply need to put him down. I'm all for folks playing the character they enjoy best. So, I'm not putting down Amiri, but I find Val much more interesting to play. However, to be fair, I do think Amiri's movement power can be damned useful! On the other hand, the weapon recycling of Val allows for a much faster recycle of the deck. The added benefit of shuffling the weapon into the deck is pretty useful too, but mostly just making sure you only have one weapon at a time without taking damage to ditch the other one means that you still have the weapon at hand. Also, recharge means less likelihood of needing a heal. The upshot is that I think players will play the character they like best, and they'll find clever ways of making them more useful. It makes for great debates, but I've take both Val and Amiri through all the current content and they both work pretty well. I specifically chose Val for my final 6 character party because he's more useful, but then again I didn't take Lem or Seoni, so Val is my charisma guy. If I'd had them and didn't have Harsk, I might have bought into Amiri more. EDIT: Oh, and I forgot the combat bonus from Val. Typically, I used to split everyone up all the time in order to go through locations. However, I have found that ability to be greatly useful. I don't always want to have two or three people in one location, to be sure, but that ability has come in quite handy!
  16. I've had the same views regarding barriers, but I always wonder if that's merely bias in my perception. I'm usually careful with that, though, and I would be curious how the numbers came out for evading barriers because I seem to often have the outcome of seeing the barrier as the next pull after evasion. Typically, I just plow through stuff, but even if I use an ability rarely, I'd still like to have it work the way I'd expect. Like most things, though, I'm pretty much for giving the developers the benefit of the doubt.
  17. I've been pretty happy with the cards I have. I think it's funny that one of my favorite cards is charm person which does one of two things. First, it allowed me to nab tons of great allies and spread them out to the party all while doing the second thing which has remained a bonus the whole time which is almost always allowing Ezren an additional exploration. The reason I bring up that card is that I got it early in my six party group and haven't come across it with my four party group. ...And my four party group is the one I kind of, deep down, consider my 'real' party. Having new cool cards is fun, but there are great cards I've as yet not managed to nab for both groups Moreover, while the prospect of getting different cards is cool, I also worry about what the new cards will do. How careful are they in crafting the new cards to work well and not break the essential card game that I already enjoy immensely? As far as the gold goes, Hannibal makes a good point. Don't want to wait for the next great thing because there's always going to be some next great thing around the corner. I still think I'll take Kamikazi's advice and wait for the 4th deck. That's not too far out and I can evaluate what's for offer then. In the meantime, the game is still surprisingly fresh considering how much I've played it.
  18. Save it for when Deck 4 is released. Not all cards in the gallery are actually there now. Unless you are unhappy with your current vault. I'm at 20K as well and that is my plan, to wait for the next content release. My gaming isn't really hampered by not having Deck 6 Legendary cards. Many thanks. I'll do that!
  19. I've been playing the game a lot. At least, as much as I can. I've played two groups through the 3rd pack. It has a lot of bugs. Through some of which the player can easily work if he just something simple as going to the vault. Others, like closing the general store in the 3rd scenario of the third pack, seem to close down the game. In some ways, it's a complete mess and there isn't any defending it. On the other hand, I've played the hell out of this game. I threw down the cost of the bundle literally on the first day. I'm pleased as hell and enjoying the electronic version greatly. While I've still been going through the card game with my real life group, the fact that I can conveniently play the app when at where it's convenient for me is great. I do hope they fix the bugs, but I'm pleased as punch about what I've had so far. In fact, the only reason I'm here right now is to do a search to see what folks are doing with their gold. I've got almost 20k right now and I don't see anything other than dropping it for the chests. ...But, having spent for the bundle, I'm not sure if I already have everything. I'm happy with what I have and I'm potentially happier with what I can get for my gold stash. If there's anything other than that, it's all cake.
  20. I can verify this. I finished the third pack and chosen the sniper role for the glorious runt. I went through everything on normal for the first run and then switched to the next level (with the green skull) and I've run into the same problem on the very first scenario, brigandoom. Something I did, and I can't recall what it is for the life of me, managed to skip his first turn (and I have him set to go first to give him a full hand to help with combat checks) which allowed me to go through the next three characters in my party (Merisiel, Kyran, and Exren). The game hung when I cycled back to him. On the second hang, I couldn't get past the problem. I can't replicate whatever I did to get past the first hang in subsequent attempts. This is the second run with the same party composition, but the first run where I've tried with the party specializing at the end of pack 3. Anyhow, thought I would post this before the end of the bottle. I think I've more or less conveyed the most salient information. I can post pics and whatnot if need be. I'll try to check this tomorrow to see if I need to post anything else.
  21. yep! I don't care about extra cards or the rest. I have over 10 thousand points I haven't use so far. On the very first day of release, I bought the whole xpac bundle. I played with every character and have gone into the 3rd xpac without any real rancor. I haven't had time until this week to play as much as I would like, but I've invested many enjoyable hours in the game hitherto. However, I detest the idea of the 'bragging rights' gamers. To be clear, before someone beats his chests and calls me out as the lamer I must truly be if I don't want to beat every game with a one legged blind orc armed with nothing but his -3 intellect and a dull spoon, I've enjoyed all the ol' skool games and beaten them as they were crafted. I just think the emphasis on primate chest beating has taken precedence over fun. To be clear, I believe, genuinely so, that a significant portion (although not the majority, and not so by a tremendous margin) of the forumites have fallen into the 'bragging rights' crowd. I want fun, and I want challenge, but I've enjoyed the actual card game. I don't need Obsidian deciding to 'improve' the mechanics for 'my sake.' Overall, I don't mind the legendary and other changes to the game, but I will make increasing noise if it goes overboard. For example, I guess the change to the card that allows me to shuffle blessings back into the blessing's deck isn't so bad... magic candle or something like that... but I also don't think it was necessary. Once again, it was just Obsidian's heavy hand telling me that the game I love is somehow substandard. I don't really mind it in terms of the mechanics, but I see it as a sign of things to come and I don't like it at all.
  22. The glitch part seems unduly unfair, of course. Where there are bugs, and there *are* bugs, I say pillorie the bastards at Obsidian. On the other hand, where the scenario is a little clever for it's own good. I like to think I'm honest in my internet dealings, and so I won't pretend that I'm not at the mercy of adult substances right now, but bitching about needing luck in pathfinder seems silly. Of course it will take luck. it shouldn't take luck because of a bug, of course, and fi it does, pour out some vitriol on the Obsidzians. On the other hand, keep in mind that Pathfinder seems pretty forgiving as long as you forfiet with sufficient cards not to die. So, if you have to replay several times, it's not that bad. The game is fun! At least, I find it fun. replaying a few times isn't so bad. On... I think the third hand at this point, I will say that the rat bastards at Obsidz need to worry more about the folks who don't complain and simply give up than the folks to come here to bitch about things. Just the two cents of someone probably not qualified to comment. ...But, to be clear, I've lost this scenario for a glitch with the general store than is manifestly a bug. For full disclosure, I lost that particualar round regarless of what happened with the general store. Probably saved me time being forced to forfeit when I did.
  23. Same thing here. Probably not thinking at my best right now, and certainly not angry or disgruntled over a minor glitch. After all, forfeiting just means I get to go back for more loot, but the things I've tried and have worked have, as yet, not. I went to the vault. Closed the app. Did all manner of things. Get the black screen of general store loot death. Just to try to help, I will say offhand that I'm using a Samsung galaxy tab S2. I was in the scenario with the Black Magmathingie that eats allies, and that the app was updated recently. I didn't play around other than going to the vault, searching for hidden buttons for a bit, and checking for updates. I'm a tad diminished and probably should be in bed, but I figured I would post just in case any of my info has any bearing on the bug. Hope it's fixed soon, but in the meantime, I'm going to restart and kick some funky octaweirdo ass. I've already forfeited, but no biggie. Didn't have lose anyone and it's all good.
  24. This is the exact bug I just got. Haven't found a workaround yet. The workaround is selecting the next character before you hit the blue triangle. At least that did it for me. As to the cards getting stuck on a cancel. As a workaround I hit menu, go to vault (in the vault the card stays in the middle of the screen). Then when I exit the vault it's back in my hand. This is awesome! I haven't been to the board for a while, but it's great that I can have a problem, come back to do a search, and have everything resolved literally within 2 minutes. ...And it was less than two minutes. I've had the game hang a handful of times, but I'm doing the last scenario of the second pack with a new party on the middle setting and it got jammed on the second Xanesha check. Thank you, Kamikazi! You are a glorious pathfinder guru!
  25. Yeah, I kind of had that thought in the back of my head when I wrote that post. after all, there's a lot of fun in figuring out the various builds, and for folks who really get into game theory the fact that you can break out of any one style and still kick ass is kind of off-putting. I have to say, since I've been playing this app a LOT more than I've been reading or posting here, that some scenarios lend themselves better to some style more than others. For example, I think, and this is surprising considering how much I enjoy playing casters, Val is my second favorite character, that he's my second favorite character, mostly for versatility. why? He's got a lot of facets. Anyhow, my point wasn't to castigate the fine Obsidian erudite advancers of what is the finality of statistical assessment. After all, I'm fairly edumacated myself and recognize the cold hard reality of how the numbers crunch. It's that there's a lot of room on either side in the game as it's designed, which is in every way a compliment from the perspective of someone who enjoys a rather limited mental acumen, I assure you. Anyhow, I tend not to frequent the forums a lot since I'd rather play the game instead, but I do enjoy hanging out here every once in a while to argue my particular persepective. I've been somewhat busy for the past couple of months, but I've played every scenario regular, medium, and hard on my four character team and both the beginner through second pack on my six player team, which I hated. Then I switched to my *other* six player team and played through beginner to second pack on my next team and then gone through medium and then to hard through the first x-pack deck. Suffice it to say that I've played a lot of the gam and I'm really looking forward to the third pack. I can hardly wait. Also, I have something like 13 to 14k worth of points and I'm wondering if I should use them now or wait until the next pack comes out. I'll probably check for responses for this one, and fairly soon, which is not typical.
