The Adra dragon is destroying me. Party is all level 12, aside for the tavern rogue. I've got the scale breaker ability and Aloth has Gaze of Adragon. I've tried this fight six times now and I don't know if it's bad luck, but Aloth NEVER successfully lands the gaze spell and I more often than not miss with the scale breaker. And the dragon just breathes the party to death. I've even tried dropping the difficulty down to story mode and Aloth still misses.

Main Story, an atheist cliche?

I always thought the entire point of having faith was believing in something in the face of no evidence, or even evidence to the contrary. Religions, Christianity in particular (as I'm most familiar with it), hold that having strong faith is a desirable trait. Extraordinary holy people seem to gain their religious "street cred" by believing in extraordinary things. God seems to manifest himself only in ways that are not scientifically quantifiable, but I guess this is good. If there were actually empirical evidence of the existence of god, there would be no need to have belief anymore, it would be considered a fact or truth. There wouldn't be the need anymore for so many different religions or even sects and sub-sects and reformations of a single religion. There would only be one. The One True Religion.TM -
Thanks for digging up the link. Still 444 via land line vs 260 via mobile is still pretty significant, IMO, considering you are much more likely to get an older person on a cell phone than a younger person on a land line.

The intent was to invoke Warhammer (since someone mentioned heresy), yes. You were blasphemous at the mention of milk and sugar! Next you'll be telling us you don't drink your whiskey neat. -

Sounds like the writers were damned if they do, damned if they don't. Would you feel the writer was biased and pushing his thoughts on you if the story ended with all gods were real and infallible? How could the story have ended end satisfactorily to you? -

Strange you would use C.S. Lewis's Narnia series as an example of an author NOT shoving religion down someone's throat. Tolkien (an uber Catholic was a close friend of Lewis and is the one who converted him to Christianity in the first place) even thought the series' christian themes were too blunt and heavy handed. How could PoE have ended that would have been more acceptable to you, honestly curious. -

To be honest, coffee is one thing I don't want to believe in. But alas, it's hard to ignore it's call and beckoning. I hope you drink your coffee black, as it was meant to be, and not perverting its beany glory with cream or sugar like a heretic. -
I recall reading somewhere that Michigan law requires polling to be done over land line phones, not mobiles, which if true would certainly skew the numbers a bit as younger folks are less likely to have a land line.

Drowsy Emperor- I think the issue is how results oriented we've become. Business leaders rarely look past the next fiscal quarter and they only care about results on THEIR watch. It is all but impossible to get an executive interested in investing in something when the return is years away...why do they care, they'll be on to the next job by then! I work in IT and I have seen CIO after CIO come in, call his predecessor an idiot, then double down on the same short term, band-aid fixes that more often than not amass even MORE technical debt. Then they pat themselves on the back, move on to the next role within 2-3 years, and let the next guy worry about the mess. I've even heard executives refer to being SOx compliant as "socialism."

1. Great works of art should be measured by the discussion they bring forth. [Diplomatic] 2. Brimsurfer is a child who would prefer his world view to never be questioned, however slightly. [Cruel] 3. Everyone should lighten up and respect all theological interpretations of the final act. [benevolent] 4. ::shrugs:: [stoic] 5. If your faith can be called into question by something so slight as a video game plot, perhaps it is not the plot that is the problem. [Rational] 6. We should all play more PoE. [Honest]- 423 replies

Main Story, an atheist cliche?
Caribou replied to Brimsurfer's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Stories (Spoiler Warning!)
That is completely untrue. There is no proof in the existence of a deity that has ever been formally presented nor acknowledged. In fact, the entire concept of "faith" entails maintaining a belief despite the complete lack of proof. Disagreed....... Really? Isn't the entire point of faith that people believe in something in the face of no evidence. Christianity (religion I am most familiar) is pretty explicit about it, e.g. John 3:16. Jesus himself even says “Have you believed because you have seen me? Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.” (John 20:29). If religion was obvious or had proof, there would only be one. The One True ReligionTM because there would be nothing to argue about. But since there is no proof, we have thousands of religions and sects and sub-sects and reformations and reformed reformations. I guess my point, is believe what you want to believe, but don't let a video game bother you. The writers can't build a "Godhammer" in real life. -

There are no Gods of Eora, what you are referring to as Gods, are merely the creation of Ancient Engwithans...........what these beings are specifically, the game and the lore fails to say that, but these beings can be communicated with and they exist but they are not Gods, they are only referred to as Gods by the common folk of Eora who doesn't know the Secret as the game reveals........may be the next chapter will unfold what these beings are......but a God is not created by people, only the false gods are........ It sounds like you're taking offense to something 1) being referred to as a god and 2) shown to be fallible. Wouldn't you agree that monotheists believe that all gods (but one!) were "created by people" ? -

You cannot load a Trial of Iron save from in game (only from the main menu), and quitting overwrites the save, which is also deleted on game over. Only thing you can do to save the situation is to Alt+F4, or close the process in Task Manager, but then whats the point of Trial of Iron. This is why using Trial of Iron is dumb. Especially if you're the type of person to want a refund after dying. Imagine this: All players successfully completing the game on PotD with Trial of Iron enabled in one try get automatically refunded the purchase price. I'm betting internet hubris would mean more units sold than refunded in this case. ) -

I didn't get any overt religious overtones from the plot, although I agree with Elerond's comments about the story having more to to with Buddhism than one of the Abrahamaic religions. I think Op is reading a bit too much into it, honestly. Sometimes a story is just a story, without any sort of nefarious agenda. -

The evidence is about the same as in our own world? The game does state that before the creation of the new gods there were existing religions. In fact some of those may in fact still survive somewhere in Eora. Hell, the druidic faiths could be categorized as such. Also 'actual deities', your own bias is showing. Yea and the game also states that even those religions were false..........and you are right in this game druidic faith is the same, as it also talks about believing in things other than deities......... 'Every force has an equal and opposite reaction', is my reaction to the game's story is really a bias to you? I think Butterfly's point was directed at your "actual deities" comment. Specifically, how does one define a god...and why do PoE gods not meet those criteria? -
Atheist Backing?
Caribou replied to Brimsurfer's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Care to elaborate why you think so? I would say that the entire plot revolving around the existence of souls which can be tangibly manipulated isn't really indicative of a development team full of skeptics. -

So... what's exactly the stash?

I would be totally be one of the guys walking back and forth to town to collect every scrap of loot, especially at the earlier levels. I do understand the point that inventory management should be a consideration though. I don't know what the solution would be, maybe allow for the purchase of a finite amount of scrolls that can teleport your loot to some merchant? Make it automatically happen when resting? Pack mules that can be equipped in the pet slot?
